    I have purchased 3 of these small books from Amazon for just over £12 they are doing an amazing job. I'm currently working in fineliner and watercolours with no problem.🙂

    I might have to get a set of these pencils for when I'm travelling and want to take some colouring stuff with me for the evenings, or something. These seem to be really good for a casual colouring session on holiday, when you're sitting in your hotel room on a rainy day, or something :) and they're only 10 Euros on amazon for me in Germany...
    thanks for sharing this with us, Gem 🎨

    They look like lovely pencils, especially for a travel sketchbook set! I just bought an art creation mini sketchbook for Inktober, I’m looking forward to trying it out 😊

    Wow! Fun review as always. I think if I bought another set of pencils I would have to put an addition on our house. lol! But these sound like a great set to travel with!

    those look like really nice pencils; I'm quite surprised. 24 colors might not be a lot, but for a travel set it would really do nicely. even for urban sketching maybe? instead of watercolors? could be interesting. thanks for showcasing the pencils, Gem :)

    Hullo Gem, I have not purchased budget pencils for art for quite a long while, until that is until Harry(The Art Gear Guide) & Lindsay(The Frugal Crafter) started in on the Brutfuner Square pencils! I just don’t want an art supply that is not archival so that is the reason for my resistance to budget brands. You are the reason I have even considered working in a coloring book! You have shown such joy in coloring and It is so easy to work on imagery that is ready for coloring or painting in! Well these pencils are just so affordable and if I did not have 120 square Brutfuner pencils I would consider them myself. I can divide the 120 set into a 24 pencil range for a travel set of pencils should I wish to do that. I only paid $27.99 for my set and I am happy with my handheld sharpener on the square barrel. If you do the maths 120 divides into 5 sets of 24 pencils at just over $5 bucks a set! I have not done this yet I just thought about making sets for nieces and nephews and should you have a bunch of kids you can give everyone their own pencils!
    Boy that’s a tangent! Eh? Wonderful video Gem! You do get me thinking and sometimes very far outside of the box!
    Please take care, be safe and enjoy your coloring adventures! Thank you again for sharing a lovely coloring session with us! See us next video!

    I'm very intrigued now! My go-to cheaper pencils for sketching and on-the-go art are the Faber Castell Goldfaber and Rembrandt Lyra Polycolor, and I love the thinner barrels on those.

    • @TheColourCave
      @TheColourCave  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I love the goldfabers too! Not sure these are up to that standard, but nothing to lose by trying them!

    Nice set of pencils for beginners to learn with🙂 and the lack of colours just means a user has to learn how to make colours with the pencils only

    You missed a test for the sketch book! Can you use acrylic in one? Has anyone tried it?

    • @TheColourCave
      @TheColourCave  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have no idea how I forgot about that... I'd make the assumption it would be good, as it did well with gouache (just thinking about the 'thicker paint' aspect and smoothness) - double-check the comments under the sketchbook video, I think someone may have actually mentioned acrylic specifically.

    Hi, Gem. I'm somewhat late in watching this video, and Im chuffed to bits to hear your happiness about the Art Creation pencils!
    I've hesitated for a looong time about throwing out this suggestion, but your comments here have made up my mind in the end. Have you given any thought of teaching your right hand to do art and writing? When I do a class, I always encourage them to try with their non-dominant hand, ' on the basis that at any time in our lives we could need to use it. For my ladies' group, who were all retired, my reasoning really hit home to them, and they participated and were amazed.
    I had a shoulder problem a few years back and had to use my non-dominant hand for a long time, and surprisingly, my left-hand writing was legible, where my 'normal writing is ... ummm... not!!! My writing has been notorious all my life, begun when I was a small child (5 or 6 years old)when an accident chopped off the tip of my right thumb and had to be stitched on again, so school, much against policy back then, had to let me use my left.
    It's a good deal of fun to do this, especially as it can produce the most surprising and happy changes in our art. That might be because we have no expectations of anything, so just 'go for it'? But we've discovered that our 'style' of painting was incredibly satisfying too - different, but good!
    So hey, it's taken me months and months to say this, but please will you take it as a caring suggestion to embark on an adventure in art, rather than a necessity, and see what comes out? Much better than the dread of losing any decent ability and feeling like there'll be nowhere to go from there?
    If you've already been doing this, that's really great, and "Chapeau!" as the French would say, or "Hats off to you!!!" (This 'Chapeau" exclamation always makes me smile, having been truncated from the same saying in French, but the English one always makes me think of a crowd of top-hatted -& - tailed gentlemen at the races getting excited when their horses came home! )
    🤗

    Wonder if those are made by some famous brand like Derwent and are just under a house brand name. Really enjoyed your enthusiasm when you discovered that they were good! Always nice when you find a hidden gem!

    • @TheColourCave
      @TheColourCave  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know for sure they won't be made by Derwent, but it says on the back of the box 'made in China, designed in the Netherlands' - this leads me to believe it is their own product development. I really like these pencils!

      Royal Talens has professional pencils as well, ones that are 100% lightfast and were used in creating the lightfast standard back in the day. Now that RT has acquired a lot of other brands under its umbrella (Sakura, Rembrandt, Bruynzeel), they have several different pencil ranges. Afaik these days they do private label/white label stuff for other brands through the Bruynzeel (openly for museums etc. as collaborations, but it seems like the Louis Vuitton pencils were possibly by them as well).
