I'm gonna be honest.... most of the times that I watch your vids now, I'm not particularly interested in a camera review or news piece.... I'm just interested in listening to two lovely people discuss a subject that they're passionate about, and who do it in such a lovely way, with intelligence, empathy and understanding! In a world where the internet is being filled with all sorts of divisive and hate filled content.... this is a little oasis of calm! Even when Tony's having a rant!! ;)
I wish youtube has option to see the date i started following you Tony. Followed you when i started as a newbie photographer and now with boat load of good paying clients. Glad to see your contents evolved over time. Taking NO BS from manufactures , unbiased reviews, Product recommendations and what not! you guys are the best. Keep the sanity of this channel alive for ever. All the best.
Someone once said: "Nobody cares about your Bokeh". It's an amazing saying, because most people don't notice details that 'experts' obsess over. I guess it applies to 4k as well.
Chelsea is right you can use different social media platforms as a way to reach other people and funnel them into TH-cam. Also, she did mention that different types of content are used differently such as vial content pulls people in, and evergreen content keeps them and give them quality content. There is also content that makes them aware that you are there, also known as brand awareness. I also like that she said that remind yourself why you do this, because many have sold themselves short and/or end up hating what they use to love to do.
In regard to: “Never Lose Your Spark”- I remember Tony scratching up a cheap lens with a crab claw, to show that it wouldn’t affect the image. As a result I’m a tee-shirt lens cleaner and never looked back.
"You can get by with cheap cameras." != "Get cameras with two memory slots." That is essentially an Exclusive OR. And, Tony, I know you know what that means. So, you need to talk about what people can do to be as close to having an instant backup as possible without having to pay for a pro camera with two card slots: Recording directly to your computer. Having a small device that you can immediately back up your SD cards onto, that you can carry with you out in the field (depending on how expensive those are). Simply connecting an SD card reader to your Android tablet, and copying the files from the SD card onto the Android tablet that you already own. Or even copying the files from the SD card onto your phone. Stuff like that. Tony, you are a former IT guy, I know you can figure these things out and then show them to people in a way they can understand.
I'm new to photography and new to your channel. I've learned so much from your tutorials. Even the earliest vids are as relevant as ever. Thanks for the quality content
Great stuff - I always look forward to your videos! I think your youtubing videos are the first thing people should watch before they go ahead, and this one in particular should be "required reading". And I love what Chelsea had to say about keeping to what brings you joy and not letting your value get bought away. She perfectly described the youtubers that I've watched fall off the grid or are in the process of falling off the grid because of it, which is sad.
I’m a fan. Please consider doing a photography and video settings video for TH-camrs. I notice a lot of the setting videos out there are for professional photographers in general. I can tell this because often they will recommend an aspect ratio that is different from the recommended aspect ratio for a thumbnail. Also I have been a TH-camr for a long time and have made many mistakes and continue to learn. It took me years to realize my camera should record in 4K even if I am exporting in HD because it will be better quality etc. I still don’t completely understand codec and more. Please make a video where you show the importance of every single setting you use for videos and thumbnails for TH-cam, where it show’s the initial camera settings at the time you capture, editing settings, export settings etc. ❤
All great points, all good advice. As I work on my 143rd 6 hour long video on why the Star Wars sequel trilogy sucks I'm going to keep all of these points in mind, and your voices will be ringing in my ears as I press "publish," secure in the knowledge that THIS will be the video that the people at Disney will watch and finally heed my sage advice.
I haven't been following you for so many years, but I enjoy the way you present an reflect, not at least when you do it together. As you said, there are people who are in a bad place, so try not to take it personally, but that cannot always be easy. Sometimes I think envy is also reason for some people to try to bring you down, that can be the price for success unfortunately. Thanks for providing great content for us to enjoy for free.
Thank you for your advice. I'll take whatever I can get from it. I am really looking to drive engagement at this point, as much as possible. Thank you for being my inspiration
Dear Tony and Chelsea, I love the sticky note you wrote to yourselves. Teaching and making a positive contribution to the world is something you both excel at. I know I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: thank you for absolutely everything you do and for being here and giving so much. Lots of love, Ben
Thank you for all your insight here! I’m the tech side of a podcast starting next month and I just forwarded this link to our talent. I’ve watched you for years as a videographer/ photographer and really benefitted from your work. Well done C&T!!
Good video guys. I will agree with you where sometimes subscribers that become friends can really throw you off your mark and get you to create content to sort of cater to their narrative and can be detrimental to your channel. Glad to see your journey, my journey has been slightly different for the last 10 years, however, majority of that is my fault because I let it happen and I let these people control the output. Thank you for this video. It was much needed.
Thanks for the positive content! I would love to see more on applying artistic principles in wildlife photography. I do learn from your photo critique sessions, but would also appreciate a series on actual teaching. Would be nice for mid range gear, like the Canon 100-500 7.1 or the Nikon.200-600 zoom. No F4 in my future! Currently I’m experimenting with foreground blur, but I honestly don’t know how to implement it. I struggle with what is good, and what is annoying! And fog. Love it when I see it and can’t “ use” it well. I think you called this forever green content! Thanks for sharing your expertise!
Wow, I finally found some truly valuable creator advice! Thank you so much. I wish you had something set up, because this definitely deserves a tip from me.
I’m so glad I have zero interest in being a TH-camr! Thank you for doing it and so well. You two come across as real and very nice people! Either you are, or you are great actors! I prefer to think the former!,
Great insight. In regards to contracts.. I would recommend understanding SOW (Scope or Statement Of Work) and SOR (Share of Responsibility.).. As you call it Contract Creep.. Ensure a claise CCR (Contract Change Request).. This is to explain the process on how to add or remove points in the contract. Also understand the T&C of the contract. If it's a service sometimes a MSA (Master Service Agreement) would be good to have complex but it provides good protection. Having the correct contract negotiations will assist you from losing financially. .Great Video...
I loved the drone video for the part 107 test. I found it super useful. I am not surprised it did well. Even if you don't take the exam. The knowledge was useful.
Thank you for you for being generous in sharing your very insightful and personal experiences with TH-cam. They are informative and interesting. Many things for someone who is interested in doing any kind of online business to consider.
This is where my law degree and previous experience as a consultant and diplomat come in very handy. I set up our own contracts, I am perfectly capable to see the roadblocks and traps in other people's/company's contracts and therefore I know when to quit when the other side only wants to exploit you.
Depending on the country you live in, you are obligated to do so. Like a photographer with their own studio need the address on their website. Lots of them have their studio in their home....
Your Drones video is what brought me to your channel and it was recommended to me through Claude, then I watched your fundamentals video and that's when I became a subscriber.

Hi Tony and Chelsea, i got the Canon R8 and shot videos in 4K 60. Sadly im unable to play them back or even edit them in Filmora or Davinci Resolved. The videos chug or dont play at all but i can hear the audio good. I tried it on a macbook pro and 2 windows 11 laptops. All are under 2 yrs old with a min 16 gb ram. Btw the still photos are great.
I found you guys back in 2017 when I received a DSLR for Christmas & you had done a super thorough video on the camera I had received. I really liked you both & bought your stunning digital photography book & have watched a lot of your videos over the years. I really do appreciate your content. Still trying to grow my own TH-cam channel but it’s a totally different topic than yours’.
Oh my, I think I have been watching your channel almost your whole career. Informative and entertaining channel. I want to start one now. oh... my... now what do I do? LoL
14:57 speaking of gear and "nobody cares". This seems to be the same law for retouching photography. When I was a beginner I did a HUGE a mount of effort in retouching even the simplest and most meaningless portraits in a way that you could possibly print them on the wall of a skyscraper and find no flaws, just to publish them on Insta. Twitter, Facebook ... where nobody gave a shit about the hours and hours that went into D&B of individual pimples or skin blemishes of a model. Putting out one photo every day and retouching it at maximum to a grade where nobody would see a difference when looking on it on his phone or probably iPad gave me a lot more followers than putting out the most profoundly retouched photos but only one or two in a week.
Fantastic video. Very informative and to the point. Can you guys make a video teaching everything about setting up the sound for you studio? From sound optimization for the space to microphones and editing. Thanks
Excellent video both, and god advice. My channel has only got 2k subscribers and even I've had some hate. Someone jumped on to claim that what I was saying was wrong, that I was advising aspiring photographers incorrectly, and that channels like mine were the key reason as to why some photographers struggle. Took me a little while to realise that this person just wanted me off TH-cam, so I blocked them... job done!
I don't think they would have 1m+ subs if it wasn't for the fact that they started this channel in the prime years of YT. Looking at the content now, you can see that there allot of smaller much better channels out there.
From a 'You Tube' viewers point of view I want to Know T&C view. I like ZF T&C is not going to change that but I like to know what they DONT like about it. In so many videos I have seen creators seem to have very tame criticism perhaps because of sponsors. Perhaps it is due to years of reputation building that I like C&T N. I like Christopher Frost also because he certainly seems to be independent. Because all humans are different viewers like to see differences in opinions. I even like it when C has a different opinion to T.
I've been watching you guys here in the UK for a very long time. I was just remembering the live shows you did back in the day ! I remember a young guy helping out in the studio but can't remember his name and I also remember Siobhan who used to help out with the incoming live comments. How are they both ? Are you still in touch ? Great video as always, Mike
I was like a lot of people at 1st- on fire and loving making video's on youtube. Then I just ran out of ideas for some reason, and was never able to recover.
If you work directly with companies. Maybe you can light a fire under Sony and get them to release more full frame cameras that can shoot 20 fps and NOT cost $6000
I spent $10K on some Sony camera gear, I wish I had more time to put towards making it a viable income... I love photography, I also happen to be good at it... Idk... Anyways, love your videos!!!
Thanks for this video, guys. A lot of good advice. I have lost my joy with my channel, and I have trouble coming up with content ideas. I am running 2 channels and giving most of my energy to one and not the other. I've done a couple of deals for free products. I think I will deliberate much harder on the next one. The two products I reviewed were not super relevant to my subscribers. I was stoked to get the free stuff but it just doesn't feel right if you're not passionate about the product. I struggle to earn enough from my channels and I don't really know where to go from here. I am working on courses but feel I might be wasting my time. I'm exhausted putting all the effort into creating videos to just have them max out at a couple of hundred views. Reading this back to myself, I might be burnt out. What do you think? 🤔
I watched your video on keeping your camera dry and it was very good! I saw you do affiliate links, I would mention those in the video and let your audience know using them supports you. A lot of viewers want to help you but don’t know how. If you do make a course, offer deals for your most supportive followers. I liked when you introduced yourself in the video, do it sooner to establish branding. Try unconventional sponsors. Maybe a local camera store if you have one. You can bring them customers and make and affiliate from gear sold or even do workshops and photo walks. I think your SD card video did well because you had a novel concept that took work to make. I like that and your audience did too!
Basically just wing it and be honest in that you didn't get that shot, wide open, because it was impossible in the conditions that you shot it 😂 Cheers much 😊❤
So glad this is just a fun hobby for me that helps a few people.. I don't have the stress of earning money. Love your channel, you have saved me money (with KEH) !! ~boring bookkeeper :)

My wife hates bokeh. :)) She doesn't like shallow depth of field at all.
man you are on the wrong channel to say such a thing! :-D
Who said that? Sorry for asking 😬😁 Feel like I should know it.
Good wisdom, guys. You've built up a lot of trust in your viewers. Much appreciated.

After over 15 years we are still tiny but the one thing I would never do is make my address public.
Smart. We started as a publishing company and didn’t intend to be TH-camrs. I would have planned very differently if I had known

Really good advice that goes way beyond making TH-cam videos! Thanx!!
A super nice episode... thoughtful/encouraging... thank you, you two! 💯✨️

Don't always agree with your opinions but always enjoy the content. Still reference SDP from time to time.😊📷
This was a very interesting video, thank you for doing it. The sponsorship part is what I needed to hear. I need to work on that aspect.
You two are so fantastic and nice.
I enjoy your videos so much. Thank you.
Great video! Thanks for the help! My son is an up and coming musician and we need to hear this! Thanks!
I got one guy that writes me a novel. LOL and I have one person that always gives me a negative thumbs down! After a while you realize it's going to happen!

As usual the best advice, in the correct space, square , or other-wise. Magic you two............
Definitely run into issues at times exporting 4k as 1080: mic quality drops, or sometimes slowmo can look choppy
Hey @TonyAndChelsea why do you use $900 cameras and publish in 1080p? Why not use some of your pro gear and higher resolution?
For the first time a few days ago I was recognized by a subscriber in town. I was caught so off guard! Anyways I was very cringe and awkward.
If you leave the camera and mic out do they get dusty, or do you do something to avoid dust getting on them?
I haven’t had any issues

Tony, shouldn't your clip-on mic be attached on the side of your shirt where your voice is most directed (toward Chelsea), not the opposite side?
yeah good point!
Great tips about being efficient thank you for these tips!

Square space I tried to set a website up! It’s not as easy as you say.
23:02 Oh no, FESSING time for Tony! 😅
Damn it’s been almost 10 years I’ve been following.
You both are fantastic.
Love this video! Thank you.
Is there a silent T in important, or is it spelt imporant?
Just a regional accent (Connecticut)
What tips can you give for Russian TH-camrs where AdSense and TH-cam don't working anymore?
I was like a lot of people at 1st- on fire and loving making video's on youtube. Then I just ran out of ideas for some reason, and was never able to recover.
12:48 The best part
If you work directly with companies. Maybe you can light a fire under Sony and get them to release more full frame cameras that can shoot 20 fps and NOT cost $6000
Just the other day i saw a post on reddit asking why people make jokes on Nikon. And there are many such posts there if you search it 😅😅
3:48 --> No way!!! I'll have to confront Mr. Undone on this matter at his address. LOL! J/K. Love your channel and Mr. Undone's too.
👍👍
I spent $10K on some Sony camera gear, I wish I had more time to put towards making it a viable income... I love photography, I also happen to be good at it... Idk... Anyways, love your videos!!!
I am also a creep for Chalsea but a harmless one :D Juliana Harkavy looks like you soooo much in the movie Last Shift.
Good one! Thank you! 🙂
I’ve been watching your channel since the very beginning, wasn’t aware of that 😅
some useful stuff, not the usual stuff all youtubers talk about
Thank you. 😁
You guys are great!
1.2 millions its from youtube, but how much from other advers?
I haven’t added it up but I should
They made lot of money from books. Selling photography tutorial books
I like that and your audience did too!
you guys are awesome. keep going
gosh some very good points..
Just remember, the haters are your biggest fans!
Haha!
