Hi, love your video. I have done a bit of nuno felting, happily. Do you think silk fabric is better to use instead of cheese cloth for a wall hanging? Thanks so much.

Thank you for watching! Interesting question. How much of the silk or cheese cloth will be seen in the final work? And you could use both. The open ness.. of the cheese cloth makes it easier to felt through than most silk but the silk will look better. So it depends on what will be seen. Also the cheese cloth is less likely to be attacked by mothy things than silk. As your project is a wall hanging. It mainly needs to be strong in the right places but you have the capacity to back/line it or some of it with a fine cotton afterwards. It really all depends on the effect you want. You may have so much more flexibility with a wall hanging. Also depends how long it needs to last. Yours may need to be very very strong. Or you might be looking for transparency and lightness. I feel like I havent helped much here. Finally the key difference is the openness of the fabric which varies so much. Silk can look great but be dense so hard for the wool to migrate through. The experts would say... seeing as you are looking at doing quite a lot of work here, you should first try some little samples of different fabrics and effects to see what will work best for your project. All my very best wishes to you and thanks again for getting in touch.
