    This is the absolute best fried chicken I have had in my life. I haven’t made it myself, only had it during college and post college years in Oxford at BBB. Everyone, I mean everyone, loves it.

    Looks amazing. Be careful when telling people to judge when the chicken is done based on the color of the batter. It is extremely important that chicken reach an internal temperature of 165F before consuming.

      when you eat the chicken can you taste the coca cola taste in it? Or coca cola just adds some sweetness to it? Because I would find it weird if I eat chicken and taste cola in it

    Even before I saw this video I have gotten in the habit to put Coca Cola mixed with butter when cooking, it really gives it a nice flavor, and I think the sugar helps it give it a crisp outer layer.

    As a chef, food safety should be the number one priority. Perhaps he just didn't have control over the editing or final product, but two things should be mentioned:
    - this has already been mentioned in the comments, but you want to make sure you cook the chicken until it reaches an internal temperature of 165F measured with a meat thermometer
    - this hasn't been mentioned, but when he says to let the chicken sit in the "brine" for 2 hours, you want to let that sit in the refridgerator. It might not kill you to leave it at room temperature, but it's better safe than sorry

      nyckidd24 It is perfectly alright to let the chicken sit in the brine for 2 hours at room temperature assuming you are using fresh chicken since the salt will prevent any bacteria from growing which any chef with a food sanitation certificate should already know that harmful bacteria needs at least 4 to 8 hours to grow to any harmful levels.Also if your chicken is at room temperature when you fry it in oil that is at least 350 degrees and you cook it until golden brown any knowledgeable chef already knows that it will be fully cooked. You could also check it the old fashioned way by simply breaking a piece of cooked chicken open and if there isn't any pink meat then it's fully cooked again something a chef with any cooking experience should already know.

      Richard Harrison I don't understand why you are getting so defensive over this video unless you are either the chef or a member of the production team. Two things: 1. I, personally, never claimed to be a chef, and 2. no where in the description of this video does it state that viewers thinking about making this recipe should have any sort of food sanitation experience whatsoever, so your statements along the lines of "any chef with a food sanitation certificate...", "any knowledgeable chef", or "chef with any cooking experience" highlight the EXACT reasons I added my comments... THIS IS A RECIPE FROM COKE FOR CONSUMERS -- **NOT** experienced/trained/certified chefs.
      I assume you are certified in food sanitation from your statements, so let me ask you this: Is there any reason NOT to keep that chicken/brine combination under refridgeration? Shouldn't every person cooking foods for consumption be generally guided to err on the side of safety? Someone with no experience or understanding of the technical aspects of food safety may simply not realize that 2 hours is OK at room temperature (BUT as you stated, it's because of the salt in that brine, an important fact) but 6 hours maybe not so much.
      The bottom line is, my comment was only meant to provide positive additional information to the viewer. It was not intended to be an affront to the Chef/Video Production/Coke/Whomever. I'm sorry you took it that way.

    The spice blend is what he has rubbed on the chicken after he has taken it out of the brine and before he dipped it into the batter. Hope this helps.

    • @beckijameson3844
      @beckijameson3844 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jordan Rivera I only saw him drying off the chicken by rubbing them with paper towels after removing them from the brine before dipping them into the batter. You may want to view that again. Most of us seem to concur that the separate spice blend was not discussed in the video. Now, if he had also posted the recipe we'd have seen where it fit in, but that's a missing piece of the puzzle.

    I love fried chicken and would love to try this recipe but as others mentioned I don't know whether to make it as shown in the video without it or if I need to do something with that spice blend. Even if I just used the brine and batter, I don't know whether to include salt in the batter as listed in the ingredients and how many eggs to use. It looks like at least 2 in that bowl? How come Coca-Cola doesn't fix this?

      Diet Coke is better. The sugar helps the sauce stick to the chicken, even bbq sauce has some sugar. I tried it with Coke zero, it won't coat the chicken well.

    At the end of the video it shows the ingredients list but it is missing the eggs for the batter. Also there is a spice list that was never explained in the video what to do with. I would assume you sprinkle the spices on after removing the chicken from the brine? Coca-Cola you need a better video editor who pays attention to detail (like me) Chef John is probably an amazing chef but you missed some important details in your video which is going to make people fail at trying to make the "best fried chicken ever" because your ingredient list is incorrect, and the video lacks a step of what to do with the spice blend.

    Interesting how the ingredients list at the end has a spice blend that the does NOT explain in the video AND when he makes the batter it appears that he adds a good amount of water which is NOT listed in the recipe at the end of the video. Neat trick to get you to buy the book he mentions so you can get the correct recipe to make this chicken........

    • @monarchserenity7872
      @monarchserenity7872 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Galligan Since you add it slowly, start with four cups and just pour in a little at a time. You want the batter thin according to what he was saying. I, personally, don't like my batter that thin, so I won't be adding as much water.

    This sounds great and I have started to prepare for it tonight, but now the chicken is in the brine I come back to the video and like others, see that the listed recipe doesnt match up with what is done on the video. The 'Spice Blend' in particular seems to be completely omitted. No idea how this stuff is going to turn out now :-(

    • @IRgEEK
      @IRgEEK 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kevin Yancy Ok. I ended up making this and it turned out great. He doesn't mention what to do with the spice blend, so what I did is once I took them out of the brine, I put on the spices. Next time I will add a little more red pepper to the brine as a little more spice would have been nice. Anyways, it actually turned out really well. Probably the best Fried Chicken I've made.

    • @ricsueh1
      @ricsueh1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kevin Yancy you can rub the spice blend on to the chicken before dipping it into the batter or you could just add the spice blend to the batter it self and either way will give you good results.

    Okay, this recipe sucks. Tried it tonight and was able to fill in the holes of the recipe that were missing...and it just sucks, wet batter makes for an oily crust like long john silvers chicken planks. The acids in the coke cause the chicken to get a little mushy. The final flavor was similar to chik-fil-a. Don't waste your time on this one guys. I ditched the meal halfway through and used the chicken for a burbon chicken stir fry instead and used the remaining breading to deep fry some pickle slices. I rate this a 4 out of 10.

    We tried this last night. Like others commented, he does not explain the whole recipe in the video, there is a spice rub that is not in there, and does not say how many eggs or how much water to add to the batter. But since my husband and I are both experienced cooks, we figured it out. However, this chicken is TERRIBLE!!! No flavor, and the coating is nasty, greasy and flavorless. We tried frying some onion rings and jalapeno peppers in the batter and they were also terrible. This is a time consuming recipe that IS NOT WORTH IT. Will never make it again.

    • @ricsueh1

      Angelyn Muko Thanks for sharing but it would have been nice if you let everybody know how much water and egg you used but I guess you want to keep it a secret so only you can make TERRIBLE chicken since most people thought the recipe made really good tasting chicken!!!!

      Why? The whole recipe wasn't even represented in the video, my opinion is just that.....an opinion. Make it yourself if you want to, then comment. And from what I can see people commenting merely said the recipe SOUNDS good (which it does) but not that they actually made it.

  • @jakobe75

    This recipe is not complete, no mention of the spice blend and how or where to use it. the batter on his finger in the video is way too thin for deep frying. How many eggs? How long to cook? what oil temp? A lot of this is easy to figure out on your own if you are an experienced cook. But geez, Coke c'mon

    Where the two cups of water and the two beaten eggs is at? What else is missing From this messed up mess?
    OR You Could just brine your chick'n pieces in salt water for an hour or so, then dry off the chicken pieces., . Next dredge and coat in simple plain unseasoned flour. Deep fry or pan fry in 1/2" of Peanut oil and eat hot or cold later on a Pic A Nick with Boo Boo and Yogi! Ya just Can't beat simple fried chicken.
