I love how much more real and unmanipulated the auditions seem in the first few series - it seems more like a genuine documentary and reflection of what happened in the process as opposed to the overly produced, hyperbolic nature of later years.
Yeah, back in the show’s earlier series, everything felt a lot more organic. There was undoubtably manipulation behind the scenes with producers telling acts to wear certain clothes, say certain things, etc. But the way it was filmed, edited and soundtracked felt very “fly on the wall”, compared to the soap opera dramatica that it became in latter years.
@@silentskies yeah, X Factor did inflict him with psychological scars that took him years to recover from. He has confessed that if he could he would do X Factor again. The only two things he would have done different were be more obedient and stay with Simon's record label a little longer, or he would have walked out after he sung his last song and got his final judges' verdict. At the end of the day he lived and learnt and is happy and content with himself and his singing career.
This was when X factor was more open with who they wished to make, nowadays it seems like they are only looking for 18-24 year olds who can at least sing a little and they even chuck some single ones together to make a group (that's how One Direction and Little Mix where formed) so doubt he would get even close these days
I was thinking the same thing,it seems like because it was the first series and the judges had a fresh outlook they felt optimistic.now less patience is shown
He has a great voice, shame his career hasn't been as successful as some other x factor winners, but then good on him for breaking away from Simon's record label and focusing on his own original music.
Read his book. Simon dropped him after winning the show because he refused to do another album of covers and wouldn’t go along with a fake engagement shoot. Sharon also falsely accused him of hitting a female member of her staff after the final when it was the other way around.
I've read his book too and I don't think I've ever been so engaged reading a book before. It's really shocking and distressing to read what Steve went through and how the experience traumatized him.
@jamesreed2366 The way he was treated would fuck anybody up. By this audition they have such shitty attitudes towards him. It's like they already know who's going through and the judges don't like it. Sharon Osbourne has always been a narcissistic cunt who picks on people who she thinks are below her.
If you followed the 1st X factor, boot camp and the live finals you wouldn't need to ask that. He won because he has a great voice, great look- in fact, the X factor, natural, consistent talent!
And I wish that it was still like this. In those days there were no Jedwards who relied on backing singers/dancers; it was Chico who started that nonsense.
First of all, I didn't know he did music early before he entered the X Factor. He is unique & passion. Well at least he won X but his career is unsuccessful. I'm glad he didn't give up his music.
I actually liked Sharon, at the Brits she said that she thought I didn't like her. Sad, just bad communications. I regret not being able to get on with her.
03:39 the top two sitting next to each other on the audition who would have thought it… bet no one has noticed that before he is sitting next to g4 they must have saw the winner and the runners up back to back on the same day.. no wonder people used to call the show a fix 😂
We have been looking everywhere for these interviews every since the final. Thank you so much, don't suppose you have any of the little interviews during the course of the show do you?
All the 1D fans hating on Steve here, you're the ones that need a reality check. Steve has a great voice - Louis hasn't yet, that's why he only sings backing vocals. Steve won with over 6million votes because he has a wicked voice. End of.
Steve had a great voice, but, I was never convinced by his attitude. I respect his talent and he may have won the first series of X Factor, but, there's been better X Factor winners long since then.
It was a fix from then on. They used him and destroyed his career just to see promote the X Factor label, which they have done throughout the years. It's pretty disgusting.
He nearly didn't get through, and he's the one who bloody won it, just goes to show what the bloody judges know. This vid kind of changed my opinion on Louis Walsh a bit, I used to like him. What ever did happen to Steve Brookstein, I used to drool over him, and he had a fantastic voice :) xxx
Tell me about it! I liked SD and Jedward too, and I went to see them live! But it has to be said that while Johnny Robinson could actually sing, he was presented as a novelty act because they know his campness makes good TV. I know for a fact that at one point they were seriously thinking of starting a novelty category; in a way I wish they had gone ahead with it. The Voice is better - at least they have credibility.
The whole thing was fixed. Simon's acting "aw let's get him back" as hes standing right outside the door waiting 😂😂 So bad. His voice was good but good enough to sell? Meh...I have up watching after the first series .
And followed that was Same Difference, then Jedward, then Wagner, Johnny and finally Rylan! What's gonna be the silly act that's coming this year?! BTW Jedward are the only ones that I liked! However, it goes to show this competition should be taken seriously and not bring in novelty acts that you think make it fun! It should be like The Voice because they take in serious talent based on vocal ability... And I think X-Factor should do the same!
Steve had every right to criticise Simon Cowell because of the way Steve was treated while with Sony BMG. X Factor doesn't transform every contestant's lives, so it's not a very good show.
It's so long ago I'd forgotten what a great voice Steve had :-) I really miss Kate Thornton. I thought Simon was stupid to replace her, and never liked Dermot.
If you search on You Tube for Paul Morley talks to Steve Brookstein or anything under Steve Brookstein and Simon Cowell and you hear what he says about a track he recorded on his album after winning the X Factor and you'll understand why he had to walk away. X Factor is about making a tv programme and the contestants are just fodder to be honest - to compare Steve Brookstein to Christopher Maloney etc is a pure insult to Steve! Simon Cowell missed a trick when he boxed him into the covers album
Also, I have a feeling that had Goldie participated in the Live Shows Johnny would have been given better songs, but after she decided to leave they made him the joker in the pack. And Goldie was bloody annoying!
With the voice that's barely good enough to call singing this guy won The x Factor how the hell does that happen because his voice is nothing compared to other contestants I've heard. Certainly not good enough to win. Sharon was absolutely right when she said on that clip on TH-cam where she was calling Simon out that he was going to win because it was already decided. This guy is in okay singer
He was a good winner but I had the feeling that the 1st series was to show how the format worked ,rather than picking someone that would sell loads of records. They didn't enter the Christmas chart that year. His single was flat and boring.
Sorry but his voice is nowhere near strong enough to compete these days. His voice is nice and sweet and i agree has a very soulful sound to it but not one that would sell records. Cabaret singer.
@heyitsmxrnie I read his book and he said he met Simon Cowell at a party while they were filming the auditions for the 2nd series l, and Cowell told him he was lucky he won it, as the talent was so much better that year.
He really needs to work on his body language and manners. In my company we've hired a few people with great skills but with body language like this and none of them lasted long. He looked so much better at the end of X-Factor when he could at least stand still. Great voice, though!
Steve his voice didnt hve tone and he did appear loopy both times which means you just dont really care and you didnt say it through words, you said it with your actions!...And what Simon seen in you had to be a sham because hes turned away many men who could sing circles around you and if you are 35 years old and still in the pubs and when the judges notice you have a drinking problem and ask you to stay out of the pubs,....then maybe winning a tv show isnt your biggest problem in life!........
How the hell did this guy win? I think he is terrible!! I think it is simply an indication of just how bad everyone was that auditioned for this 1st Season. I haven't heard anyone who can sing yet.
