For a person so big into visual stimuli like manga and anime, Fuki is very literary and writes highly intelligent lyrics. "Black Pentagram" is based on a horror manga by Suzue Miuchi, and Fuki certainly does it justice. She once put up her own English translation of the lyrics with explanation thereof. "Black Pentagram" was the last of two encore songs of this live show-the set included the songs on the "Vampir" and "Unfinished" albums, and more. On a personal note, I've chatted with bassist Hiroyuki Ogawa a few times, when he used to come to the club gigs of his friend and mentor, the late Mikio Fujioka of Babymetal's Kami Band. He's very bright too-this band is high IQ (as are most Japanese bands, it seems to me).
The concert is called XIII as it was done on their 13th year. Also normally they would not be able to play somewhere the size of the Pit as it holds 3k, but at the time due to the restrictions venues in Japan where only allowed to hold concerts at half cap, so Unlucky Morpheus took full advantage of it. On a side note this was the 1st time Fuki has worn in-ear performing live with the band. If you ever get the chance check out "Opfer" the drumming in it is just insane, and then add the guitar solos to that. Well worth it, unfortunately they have never released it as a video.
This song is really meant to be played live and for Jill to do the solo, every time I hear the studio version and the first solo is done by Shiren, i just think to myself "nah mate, Jill should be doing that one".
Imagine being in a small room with no more than a thousand people. And out of nowhere an apocalyptic storm is unleashed in the form of 6 musicians. The wind hits and hits hard in your ears. But it is the most incredible thing you have ever witnessed. That is Unlucky Morpheus....
FIMIYA, drums is a beast, going full tilt through the entire song. Jill's covers of mostly guitars solos alway fascinate me. I believe Jinya, guitar, was in the Kami Band in the early days.
As a reactor, you have a really accurate and wonderful comment. Even though Unlucky Morpheus is such an amazing and technical band, very few Japanese know about this band. The reason is that heavy metal is minor in Japan. (Additionally, Unlucky Morpheus has no intention of signing a contract with a big agency, and sticks to his own policy.) They are a "top-notch minor band".
Great reaction as always😊 They are still very underrated band which a little sad. You’ve been gone through many Japanese bands so far and not sure if anyone left in your list. I would suggest Bish who will disband this year. Non Tie Up a good and horny song.
with the "official video", the solos were played by writer, Shiren and Jinha. but then Shiren developed a muscle disorder that limited the amount of time he could hold his guitar. so what did AnkiMo do? they had Jill-san step up and play his solo *NOTE-FOR-FREAKING-NOTE*. Jill-san is the real-deal.
Thank you very much for the reaction, fantastic as always. There are two things that I don't like about this presentation, the first is the sound of the concert. On the one hand, both the venue and the staging are great, but the sound is the worst I've heard in a concert of theirs, especially on the violin. I'm not talking about what they play but about the technical part, I don't like it. The other negative aspect is Fuki's voice. She is still a great singer but in my opinion every year since 2017 she sings worse, I'm not saying that she sings badly but I think she exaggerates the vibrato too much and you can hardly hear her singing in low tones like years ago. Each time she takes his voice to a higher pitch that I don't like. It is also noted that he needs to take a breath more frequently than in previous years. I read that she has no training as a singer, perhaps she should take more care of her voice because in my opinion the deterioration is evident
I own the concert on Blu-ray but haven't sat down to properly watch it, but from their t-shirts my guess is this is the final song or at least one of the encores. I have noticed Japanese bands tend to come on with the same t-shirt for encores. So I can imagine she might be more out of breath because this song is close to the last or the last song of the set. I am not the biggest fan of her vibrato either, but it doesn't really bother me now that I am used to it. As far as the technical sound goes, it's quite echo-y for sure and sounds somewhat in the distance. Not sure if that's youtube compression or the actual recording. I will try to remember to check my own copy or at least my rip to check when I get back home from work.
I quickly checked my rip (which has FLAC lossless audio so it should be as good as the Blu-ray) and the actual Blu-ray. It still has the echo, but I honestly don't think it sounds bad (it sounds fuller compared to the youtube video). You can also hear the youtube video is compressed, but it's not a huge amount of difference. I have to say that some of the higher parts with the dual-solo's even sound slightly distorted on the Blu-ray, not sure why. I know they had problems with their Blu-rays of this concert not running on every player and they had to recall some of them (since they manage all of that stuff themselves). But I got that from translating their tweet via google translate, so not sure how much got lost in translation. It has a high bitrate though as it's basically 48GB for 1:50:00 long concert, so that might be why.

Awesome! I knew when I first heard them (Cadaver/Revadac) that their IQ level was really high. I've been hooked since! Thanks!

@@GlassMoonGaming My Bad!! It was Shiren who was an early Kami Band member.
He is the composer, arranger, programer, etc. for Unlucky Morpheus.

Thanks! I always wonder about how sound translates from live, to live recording, to TH-cam compression.
