  • This electronic piano does not turn on but it shows the power led. The issue I believe is the CP board, or control board it looks like IC one is shorting. unfortunately I can't find replacement parts if you know where to find them let me know.

I've repaired an SX-PX103 once, all issues were solved when I replaced the leaky memory backup cap with a new one and restored ~10 traces damaged by the electrolytics. No other parts in the circuit were broken, but I replaced the caps in the psu anyway, due to age. Check the upright cap looking like a cr2032 and the board all around. Electrolytics can be washed away with a toothbrush and soap. A dishwasher would either work. Make sure to dry the board properly afterwards, especially beneath connectors. Good luck!

Got the same problem with the sx ea3, has anyone got a fix? I get the red light on, but nothing with sound or the LCD display

Hi, i see you found a service manual for the SX-PX103 keyboard. Do you have a source for a Technics SX-PR51 manual as it presents the same issue as yours in the video you made. I can't find the service manual you used for the SX-PX103 either
do you have a link for that as the circuits may be similar in design. Cheers John

I habe das sx-px224 mit dem gleichen Problem nur das es keine Sicherung gibt.
Die 4,8 Volt liegen auf dem IC1 an.
Kein Display und kein Ton aus dem Gerät

Greetings! Thanks for the video! Can I pick your brains? My Technics SX-PC25 has no sound and the red led monitor light does not turn on. Can you please tell me what should be my next step given that the monitor light does not turn on. Many thanks, JP

check the voltages on the power supply first, then see if there is any brown spots on the mother board, check all diodes etc.

The ICP fuse can be replaced with a 1 amp fuse wire. I have been servicing Technics instruments for 42 years.
I loved the ICP semiconductor fuses, they were a very good source of easy income.
Many keyboards take longer to repair than can be charged for. Technicians need low picking fruit from time to time to compensate for when we lose money on a job.

Cool. Could you by any chance advice on how to trouble shoot my SX-K350 keyboard? Everything works except the little "Musical Display". I've opened it up (and put it back together)..., cleaned out dust, inspected the boards, caps, diodes etc, cables as well as I could. All fuses are ok. There's a six wire (brown, red, orange, yellow, blue, brown), cable looked fine and in place. Hoped to use it as a midi keyboard, but it's tricky without the display.

Hey Tom I am having an issue like this for a px55 my son inherited from his great grandmother. Getting power no sound…. Do you know what the common cause would be on this model? I am sorry to reach out like this I can’t anyone who fixes these things where we are and my son is missing the piano. Thanks 🙏🏻

Is this icp fuse the one on the upper edge of the display circuit board?

I have exactly this fault, but I have no training in electronics. Is the conclusion that I need a new board? Or if IC1 is shot, is the piano beyond repair?
    Thanks

If you can find a replacement board it should be fine.

Did you figure this out yet? I’m guessing the electrolytic caps are bad. I have the same problem with same model. I just replaced all the electrolytic caps. Unfortunately i will not be able to test it for a few days because I don’t own the piano and have to reinstall the boards in the owners piano to test

I don't think it will be an issue with the caps. it is most likely the processor. you can try to put the pcb board in the over at 200c for 10 min.

Don't Guess. Actually find the short
Remove the Chip If you suspect it, and see if the short goes away.
Either that or cut the track going to the IC at a point where you can link it back together easily later on.
ICs are usually pretty reliable you're more likely to have an issue with a discrete. Or a Zenner.
Not saying you're wrong but you really need to know you are right before buying parts especially overpriced obsolete parts from sellers out to make a fast buck.
    FYI
I had a Korg DW6000 on the bench the other week an all the signs pointed to the Korg Voicing chips which are anything from $30-50 each used After a lot more looking at the diagram it turned out to be two 4000series ics costing 50 cents each on the board that feeds the voicing board.
That restored the voices but not the control of them ( editing).
That looked like part of one of the micro processors had failed. However further investigation showed that Half of it was used to update the display which was working just the physical function wasn't. ( its highly unlikely that half the MPU has failed) There were some logic ICs that contolled the CS on the MPU and my initial thought was that one of them may have failed. I Decided to Wash the whole board in 100% IPA before removing any parts ( As it was quite dirty) and after that decided to replug and test again before ripping parts off the board.(just incase)
And presto all the function had returned.
Once you have fixed it, the fault is then obvious and then you always wonder why it took you so long to find it.?
In this case some conductive gunge on the CPU board and the interconnecting plugs from it, and 2 knackered logic ICs msking a fault so that it looked like 2 blown voice chips.
*But so that you don't think I'm trying to be all smug here*
I've had a Vox Continental 300 on the bench that looked like it was recovered from a swamp when I was asked to fix it by a friend. ( I usually like a challange)
I've had the whole thing literally to pieces and stripped all the now unobtainable preset switches
and refurbed them ( they were rusted solid) rebuilt the psu and repaired all the oscillators repared the reverb and changed the control pots as they were also rusted solid.
I had the whole thing working perfectly before I returned it to him before xmas .
Theres now a problem with the "Walking Bass" board that I'd partially rebuilt.( replaced all electrolytics and tested all the transistors and diodes).
Its started to generate multiple bass tones instead of the one note its meant too I spent 4-5 hours up the guys house earlier this week and cannot find the fault. ( this board has already been a royal PITA which is why I rebuilt it in the first place)
I know what's happening the control voltage is leaking from a specific note G# then applying that tone over what ever note you play.
If you remove the wiring from G# you still get a god awful noise that then clears to give the correct tone. Its finding it thats the problem. And here's why assuming is bad. All the Diodes read roughly the same so you'd assume they must all be OK? This thing is well over 50 years old they could as easily all be leaking. Fortunately its one of the first Voxes to use Silicon transistors otherwise you have the additional problem of dried out Germaniums which is a pain.
As even the NOS replacements are 50 years old and dried out.
Anyway good luck with fixing the Piano.
