Thanks for another great episode, Vincenzo! By all means play golf while you can! I love golf and always told my wife that when I retired I intended to play 2-3 times per week. Alas, I had a bad reaction to the Covid vaccine that left me with neuropathies, spontaneous torn rotator cuffs, joint pain, and other issues that are finally improving SLOWLY. I am now unable to play golf, and at 74 I wonder if I ever will be able to again. My point being that you never know what might happen to take away things you love. In a way, fountain pens have replaced golf as a bit of an obsession. Thank you for helping me with that!

Another great video - thanks so much for your hard work. I use my "some lines a day" 5 year journal as a gratitude journal. The entries can be short, and I can see my reflections over the years. I also make sure each day has different entries, so as I look down each day over the years, the type of increases over time. I include things that were challenging and how I did or could change my outlook about it. They end up being some of the most meaningful entries.

Great tip! The journal is such a nice one I have to find use for it. I just found my self skipping too many days and always being negative. But that is just me.

Thanks for your comments about journaling and depression. Oct nov dec tend to be my not so great months. When I am bummed I don’t want to journal at all. Any tips you can share about journaling to lift your mood would be welcome. When I see you have put out a video it always raises my spirits. U r my favorite pen show. Bravo 🎉

Buenas tardes de España. Gracias por el saludo en español y por tu canal de TH-cam. Yo tampoco voy a reducir mi colección. Al contrario iré adquiriendo más.😉Gracias por recordar el cumpleaños de Hemingway Jones. Voy a felicitarle a través de Instagram. Es cierto que la escritura nos ayuda.

I'm not sizing down my collection! All those talks are bullshit (Drew himself acknowledged he was actually 'joking' when shooting his 10-pen video). I fully agree with your approach. I very seldom regret my pens' purchases (less than 5%). I'm definitely NOT letting my pretty fountain pens go! Thanks for the great recap, Vincenzo. Cheers.

Thank you for another episode. I couldn't wait. I also keep my diary in a large notebook so that I am not limited by manufacturer's prints. Art, drawing, painting illustrations and writing short stories help me the most when dealing with depression episodes. And cycling! Movement is always good for the head. Instead of golf, I have archery. When you have one shot and no opportunity to make corrections during the shot, it forces you to focus on the current moment. :-)

Hello Vincenzo, I come here every week and it’s becoming a ritual.
Thanks for sharing about your 5year journal. What you said made me thinking and it makes sense!!
I‘ve gone through a similar experience: my task was „one good thing that happened this day“. I did it for 2 months and was getting frustrated! So mach sh** was happening that I needed to process (similar to your experience), but my journal said to write a good thing. I stopped and feel better just having that obligation out of my way. 👍

Happy Sunday morning, Vincenzo. Nice 👕; my favorite color. I think the current videos; on culling pen collections; is only a trend that had a fire lit under it, by Pen Boy Roys' video. I see the same thing happening in the Booktuber channels. For four years; during the covid and post covid era, it was about how many books a person could aquire, and now that everyone has a private library, the influencers are unhauling and selling everything.

Ciao Vincenzo! Nice episode. I like the aim of keeping it close to an hour. Hope your spring is doing OK. I'm happy you could enjoy some golf. Today is a quiet day here, so I have time for a few comments:
    1) I also go through quite a few A4 / letter size pads and needed something more affordable. I haven't tried Amazon's home brand, but they also sell Mintra's 15 Lb. office pads, in packs of 6 for something like $16. That's less than $3 a pad. The website doesn't give GSM, but one site suggested that 15 lb would be 22.2 GSM. Somehow it works well with my fountain pen use, even some stubs.
    2) You asked for recommendations of vintage pens. I think the joy with pens is that learning and exploring what works for you. Personally, I especially like Japanese pens, like vintage pilot and learning about the companies and past designs. I have Japanese family and like many things about Japanese culture, so they resonate with me perhaps in some of the ways that Italian pens resonate with you. My image is that Italian pens focus on the exterior and are quite colorful and bold. Japanese pens are much more about the nib (which is why each firm makes them in house). They also often are not so flashy (any shade of black is fine) :). I picked up Andreas Lambrou and Masamichi Sunami's "Fountain Pens of Japan" and learned a lot there, and also on the "Tokyo Inklings" podcast, which might be easier on your commute to the office than a video :)
    3) I think my main advice would be to get yourself to a pen show if you can so that you can actually hold the pens and see what feels like a good pen for you. Getting a pen from a dealer might cost a bit more, but I think would be worth it to make sure it is in good operating condition. I used to avoid dealers because of prices, but now think it's worth it with vintage pens. You might like a vintage Pelikan. I had a great experience with Rick at thepenguinpen.com/main. He was a gentleman and had the pen ready for me. The Pelikan 140 I bought is like a basic EDC student pen, but I love it. Wonderful writer, and he had it in perfect condition.
    4) One of my favorite vintage pens are the Parker Vacumatics. Many were made in Canada by the way. They look fantastic and write very well. It is my image of what makes a perfect fountain pen. You have to deal with sacs, but that is another reason for getting it from a dealer. ebay or other places also confuse junior models and the like, which usually cost less and are smaller for modern tastes.
    5) Never tried the Nemosine Singular. I quite like my .6 and .8 Nemosine nibs. I noticed that they declared the nibs SOLD OUT and haven't sold their own Birmingham pens in some time. I think that was one of the Birmingham Pen Co. brother's company.
    6) On journaling and depression, I'm also familiar with seasonal depression. Nothing clinical, but I think many creative people go through dark days. One can't always be creating new things or exploring everyday. Some weeks of spring can be tougher for me too. Just wanted to say hang in there. I was very pleased that Hemingway Jones discussed that on his program from time to time. Along those lines, I am happy you ditched the 5-year Hobonichi for journaling. The choice of a good journal is very personal. Having fixed dates for a journal gives me pressure and guilt when I can't write. Shop around and find the best journal that works for you. I might try to focus on less of a journal of what you did that day, and try to think about some theme. Maybe try writing memories of growing up or portraits of people, for example. You can still have the feeling of reflection, but it would be more creative / rewarding, rather than getting stuck in the rut of "so tired" "feeling behind" or whatever. Let the writing be more of a fun space. I think journaling is a creative art like short stories or fiction or poetry. It takes some thought. Sometimes an inexpensive notebook might be the most liberating to write in since you have no pressure and no guilt and could take a think notebook with you everyday to write while waiting for the subway or whatever. You should find what works for you, just like selecting a fountain pen, it is very personal. To be honest though, I think your FP videos are a different from of journaling. The point is to be expressive and creative and have some reflection. :)
    7) Along those lines I would caution you from giving much time to TH-cam metrics. I'm not a psychologist, but think it is easy to become OCD on trying to make sense of that data. Hemingway Jones sometimes talks about it (which is a mistake IMHO because audiences are not interested). I would encourage you also not to pay much attention. If I was a chef, I would want to evaluate which meals sold best and comments so that I could plan for the future... but social media is more fickle. HJ often points out that he created a really amazing video and spent a lot of time on it, but nobody saw it or clicked like, whereas another video put together on a whim might go viral. So much is shaped by the algorithm, which changes frequently. I've seen some really interesting creative people kind of spin out of control because they tried to appease the algorithm gods so to speak. That can't be healthy. There are trolls and bots that shape everything too. I'm an academic and get course evaluations at the end of the semester. Often we get them only from students who really loved or hated a class. It is always interesting to get feedback from students one way and then later hear back how much they used something I taught them in class.
    8) Lastly, on your editorial regarding downsizing collections and the like, I wanted to say that no one would be guilt shaming you for keeping your pens. I think your pen resurrection is a great idea to have you enjoy your pens, and also to share a wider variety of pens on your show. On the other hand, as a fellow person with some depression, I wonder if your weekly pen cast is putting a lot of pressure on you to keep ordering pens. To be honest, it is easy to get stuck in a rut of OCD collecting. It must cost a lot or lead you to make a lot of purchases. Getting a new pen is always exciting, but at some point we can jaded and lose the excitement of new pens. I find that especially the case with poorly made forgeries or clones. I am so embarrassed each time I see a crappy copy of the Lamy Dialog I got on AliExpress. There are some great Chinese pens, including some cool one, but many are just crap. I think of how some people obsessively collect them is like having a diet of junk food. Junk food and mass consumption is not good for the planet. This reminds me of people who are constantly breaking up because they soon lose the dopamine rush of the first few days of a relationship. Yes, expensive pens may be overpriced brand name bling, but there are some really creative small firms and artisans who are producing work that is on the next tier, and makes purchasing worthwhile. Even with these companies, we have to remember that collecting pens is a fun hobby, but it is not the same as creating something (which you are doing with creatiing the videos).
OK. This is taking me about an hour, so I should close. No need to reply to any of this, but I thought I'd share a few thoughts before I take a nap :). Take care!

The Omas Extra is a very good find. I do not know about the Waterman pen. I am not very well versed in Waterman.
As far as journaling, I do so to review the previous days events, but also to write about feelings, sometimes depressing, others rather elated. The focus has always been on my handwriting which has improved to the point that others can read it. Those have been my main goals.

Buon Giorno Vincenzo! I really enjoyed today’s video and was able to watch the entire video in one sitting, which is rare. Really enjoyed seeing those original Delta’s and as always, love watching you ink swatch. Those inkpressions books are the Best! There was a blob of ink that you left in the Hobonichi that was driving me crazy so i hope you blotted it when you finished the video 🤣 Enjoy your golfing days ⛳️

I also use the Lava soap, but I often combine it with scrubbing with the green scouring pad of those scotch brite sponges.😊I’m usually able to clean most inky stains on fingers. But a little hard in the skin.😅

I love your weekly updates and look forward to it each week. I have a suggestion for a new segment that might be interesting. You recently started the weekly pen resurrection and put three or four "resurrected" pens into your rotation for the coming week; it would be interesting in the following weekly update to get a brief review of what you thought after re-using those pens .

Always a great show but I won’t necessarily always comment. I couldn’t help not to draw a parallel between golf and ink swatches. In golf it’s common to take a practice swing. In swatching (is that a word) Vincenzo you need a special practice book to test those hard to describe and somewhat incognito inks. Remember keep your eye on the ball and yell FOUR when necessary. Keep up the great work. If in Winnipeg be sure to golf Pine Ridge.

    @JoseFbt6bk 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hello there Vincenzo.
I've recently discovered your Channel and I love how you approach this hobby that we share.
There are two things I would like to comment on. As far as being a "hoarder", "collector" or "regular user" of fountain pens is concerned, I prefer to be a simple user with a modest collection of about 50 pens, some of which I had a hard time acquiring and others - mostly Chinese - much less. I try to use them all, although I have about 10 that I use more or less every day, as I write quite a lot. My point is that I respect both those who can collect luxury pens and those who just want them to admire. I'm not one to criticise anyone for what they spend their money on, but I believe a pen is made to write, not to sit in a display case for years to come. But that is my particular view, I insist.
As for depression and writing or journaling when you're suffering from it, I suppose it will help everyone to a greater or lesser extent. I am referring to a depression worthy of the name, not one of those bad days we all have. Personally, it has helped me a lot. I usually write down everything that comes to mind in my journal. Whether they are positive thoughts or not, it doesn't make any difference at all. It helps to express them. I can see that you don't, Vincenzo. Excellent. If it doesn't help you, it's better not to continue.
Forgive my English and the length of this comment.
    Keep up the good work!!!

Buon Giorno, interesting recap, covering so many interesting topics.
    1) the legal pad thing. yes, I hate to spend much money on brand paper and found that some of the many no name brands are fully satisfying.
    2) so glad to catch a view of all these 80's "original" Delta's with these great looking and writing Delta nibs. They should be revived as well by Nino Marino and his team.
    3) thanks for the hint about the roman located shop with the Delta nibs, unfortunately again no italic nibs by Delta available. I would kill for an italic nib fitting on my Dolce Vita 2023 edition.
    4) Respect to you talking frankly about depression. If you think you got a depression, believe me, "self healing" won't work at all. See a specialist who is able to do a thorough diagnosis, explaining the various stages of depression and working with you on it. I encountered some of the same issues, and daily journaling of only the negative things of my days didn't really help and I stopped doing that as I got the feeling that I'm just pushing myself much deeper into negative feelings.
    5) the vintage pen story. I hope you will get decent pens and the 2 pens you ordered are going to work well. But, a Parker Vacumatic, 3rd gen. with a decent gold nib should be collected as well by you. I got one, first I was very unimpressed, on the verge to disappointment, due its light weight (which I didn't expect) but very soon fall in love with it. Its "bookkeeper nib" is fantastic, even after 80 years. All Parker vintage pens are absolutely much too expensive, most sellers are offering exaggerated prices, but that's the market rule of demand and supply and it took me 6 months to find a fair offer. A long lasting "hunt".
    6) This Nettuno of yours, what a beauty, I'm getting jealous. Well, just a little bit.

Another nice recap Vincenzo. It looks like you got a nice group of Hongdian pens in your latest haul. For my haul the Hero 856 was only $2.90 so I got the fine point version as well as the bent nib 1.0 mm version. I also have another Grifos on the way. The model is covered with black Stingray leather. I finally ordered a Ranga Model 5, and after a week got the notice it had shipped on Sat. Before your videos I had never heard of Catawiki before. I took a look and it seems to me it's just a European version of Ebay. The vintage Waterman #52 1/2 looks nice enough at first blush. I would suggest maybe taking a look at Sheaffer pens. The ones with the Imperial style inlaid nib - those nibs are some of the best ones I've ever used!

Hi, I’ve need a little help.
Could you help me choose between Bock n6 M and Schmidt n6 M nib? I’m going to buy admok m800 can’t decide.
I like a lot my asvine P20 with asvine Medium nib, it has very little feedback and it’s kinda soft, so I’m looking for something similar so:
    Bock M or Schmidt M? 😅
