I love that you are using a loop, this way we can make a good comparison about what’s happening. I totally agree with you that production and engineering should be a creative process and not a perfectly clean safe zone, which is very boring imo 🤟🏼
The Lo-Fi / Hi-Fi thing is something I've been doing quite a bit lately, just mixing by instinct and going crazy when the track needs it. I've actually just printed a mix with Gorilla Drive & Time Machine by Safari Pedals on the Mix Buss, they've got some great stuff. Thanks for the great video Matt!
I love how overdrive pedals like the centurion extend the sustain of the sound and saturate in a way that you don’t hear an obvious distortion “hair “ and fizz. I was using a behringer tubescreamer pedal parallel through aux out of my soundcraft mtk mixer, it sounded like an odd reverb, it was nice on a lot of sources from percussion to vocals etc , the centurion sounded to me like it but with less eq without the mids and the low cut of the tube screamer. Love it I’m going to use more of guitar pedals in mixing, meanwhile I was thinking to find guitar sounds using mixing effects more, I love the sound of my Jazzmaster clean just a di through the console and the built in effects, I’ll try blackbox for saturation, maybe multiband compression and other mixing/ mastering plugins with guitar
Lovely! As you were trying them out, I was thinking that I'd use same combination... plus that I'd sneak in a parallel undistorted kick drum to keep the nice low end punch you initially had. BTW been a LONG time since I heard some pop music with such different, let's call them "innovative" or at least "daring" drums, programming, grooves and sounds! 👍🏻👍🏻 Who's the artist and who produced this track?
love the way the final choice sits with the fuzz bass

Sick !! The Centurion has been getting a lot of love on drums so I love seeing this !

Thanks Matthew, I see what you mean by hifi/lofi and bringing it back after you destroy it. Great demo, I gotta try this! 😊
