I think the casting of those first four make companions was spot on - William Russel, Peter Purves, Michael Craze, Frazer Hines were all utterly brilliant (though Michael Craze really should've been kept for longer). Peter Purves and Maureen O'Brian are my dream team though!
The Evil of the Daleks is a story I have wanted to see for years (fingers crossed it's found in someones basement or Animated), though I can't really give my opinion over this part of the series as my favourite Doctor is Patrick Troughton... so I want all of them back ;) ONE CAN DREAM :/ Fantastic work Josh and thank you for sharing the clip from Peter at the end :D

I would love to see "Evil" returned. It is such an interesting story, arguably the epitome of classic Doctor Who, with the top sci-fi villains featured in a marvellously detailed Victorian era adventure. If they could release an animated version to the high standards of "Power" it would probably be snapped up. Great to see Peter Purves at the end there. Indeed, I'd give my left arm to see a fully restored version of the final episode. The BBC really went all out in shooting that climactic battle scene; it must have been absolutely mind-blowing to audiences at the time.
Abominable Snowmen for this batch. As big a Dalek fan as I am, that story just seems like an awesome one. Plus I'm happy with the animated reconstruction for Ice Warriors. Also, it's still awesome that Peter Purves contacted you - thanks for sharing the whole video.

Love this series, it’s a massive shame there are so many missing serials but I’m glad we find some eventually. Evil is definitely up there with being the most wanted.
I saw the 1968 BBC repeat of 'Evil'. 'Dizzy Daleks' is one of my earliest memories! All the best Josh. Still think your recon of 'Abominable Snowmen' is excellent.
I have been including them on my revamped DVDs of Season 3 completed with missing stories, both reconstructions AND animations. I will be uploading the complete Season 3 boxset DVDs for sharing in about 2 weeks.
I honestly think that the animations for The Ice Warriors were really nice. Out of the three, I have to choose The Evil of the Daleks, just to get the whole of the Child Daleks scene on film. Also, how kind is Peter Purves to contact you. He is a very sweet man.
Evil of the Daleks was the first time I'd listened to from the soundtrack. Summer 2009, 11 years old I was hooked from start to finish and I wish it was found or animated!
Now this might be completely wrong... but around about 1981-1982 I remember seeing a local (very local and very small) Canadian station that decided to play a late night Doctor Who story at 2 in the morning. Now being about 8 or 9 there was no way that my parents were going to let me stay up late to watch this... but at the time I was disappointed because a story called "Evil of the Daleks" sounded pretty cool. There is a possibility that I remember it wrong as "The Power of the Daleks" but I don't think so. It was definitely an early Troughton Dalek story. This was actually printed in the local TV guide and I'm sure if you checked the newspaper archives you could find evidence that a copy did exist in Canada at that time. I have NO IDEA where it came from and I never saw any similar night showing listing after that. Here's hoping that somebody finds this in a private collection and comes forward in the not too distant future.
Can you talk Animation qhen we get to The Invasion because it was the first to be animate P.S:You forgot to mention the missing dialogue from The Abomination Episode 2 "The audio from one line of dialogue spoken by the Doctor is missing (parts in *bold* are absent are absent): ', *_You were right_* *_about one thing Vic_*_ toria this_ creature certainly doesn't seem to be flesh and blood!_'As this appears on the surviving print and all known off-air audio recordings it was likely an error on the master tape and was broadcast as such. Because of this, it is unlikely a complete version of this episode will ever be found. This line was rebuilt by Mark Ayres for the DVD release, using dialogue from other Patrick Troughton episodes' and also dubbed the line by fans, Chirstopher Thomson is consider the best
I watched the reconstruction of Evil of the Daleks yesterday and was amazed at how good it was. In some parts it actually felt like a proper animation.
This gets better and better... and the information you deliver is very interesting. Again, 10/10 well done... and looking forward to your next episode as my all time classic for me is Fury from the Deep....

None of the Dalek/model footage actually used on-screen in The Evil of the Daleks 7 exists. The footage that does exist is Tony Cornell's behind-the-scenes 8mm film of the recording at Ealing, plus a short 35mm film trim which also wasn't used (although the shot that it was trimmed off of probably was).
Yeah I guess it's just a technicality, but you say "A part of Episode 7's model sequences exist, but are believed to contain footage that wasn't used in the final edit" but it's not strictly "a part" of it at all, cause it's all footage that *definitely* wasn't used in the final edit. I still love you though so forget the whole thing ;D

I know I keep saying this with every video, but these are so amazing. It blows my mind that as a fan of Who for more than 30 years, I'm still learning new things with these breakdowns. Also, your voice is so soothing! It genuinely reminds me of the professional narrators the Beeb uses for the Classic DVD docs. I would love it if you wanted to just keep going and breakdown the entire Classic Doctor Who series! LOL! I'm sure that would be easy...... ;)

Being old enough to have seen a story like Evil of the Daleks is a double edged sword. You remember how great it was and then realise you may never see it again due to the mass junking. Evil of the Daleks is my favourite story of all time. I was 7 when I saw it, now I'm 59, and there's a real sense of time running out for those of the old guard like myself . Singapore is likely the best place for it to be but, please God, somebody find it soon.
Germany is releasing Doctor Who, ONE1 is airing all episodes in Season 26, and episodes from Earlier doctors are being released on BluRay sets, ONE1 is also going to broadcast the new series when it airs (if it airs)

It's so ridiculous, when you think about it, that they just junked so many episodes, from one of the most popular T.V. Series. Now: 'The Ice Warriors,' doesn't get any TV or twitch time, because, of just two episodes being missing!
When you realize most of the stories still existed in Australia in 1975, and the BBC stopped destroying them in 1978 we were so close to saving them. Australia changed to colour TV on March 1st 1975. They continued regular screenings of colour episodes through the 70s and 80s, but decided they ddin't need the black and white episodes. If only they'd hung onto them a couple of more years.......
It makes you wonder what would happen, if we actually invented time travel one day! I'm actually chuckling at the thought, of us just arriving in the 70s and doing whatever we can to stop them from junking the episodes! The timeline would be screwed within a week!

I travelled back in time (my brain decided to not fill me in on how I achieved it) armed with a DVD recorder & made regular visits back to record the missing episodes. I apparently rented a room & all that was in it was a TV, the recorder & a chair. Then I anonymously gave them to the Beeb, basking in triumph knowing that I blew everyone's minds. A mystery for the ages that was never solved. Damn that was a good dream. 😅
Dreams are funny like that. Not filling you in on half the details, but for some reason you don't even notice! If you did, you could accomplish lucid dreaming! :)
This may not be popular but I would like to see live actors reproduce the missing episodes. The animations don't, for me, reproduce the scare. Especially the ice warriors.

This one is complicated for me: Evil - I don’t like the first half but parts 4-7 are where it picks up. I really want to see the playing Daleks they were funny i wish I could see it properly though Abominable - 6 episodes and only 1 Part I think it needs more surviving to be easier to watch Ice Warriors - I like this story it should be complete but it has also been animated
7:05 The full Story their goes that in the late 1960s, German TV Station ZDF (The German Equivalent of BBC Two) were interested in licensing the Show for a German Release, but after a viewing of the Ice Warriors Executives at the time decided against it. Because of this the Show didn't start airing over here until 1989, when private TV Station Sat. 1 started airing Episodes of the 6th and 7th Doctors.
Question on the Abominable Snowmen... Wasn't there a 2nd reel of behind the scenes film done by Frazer Hines? I vaguely remember it being referenced in the intro of the LC recon.

Evil of the Daleks 100% ! probably the one i want found the most. The Ice Warriors i loved probably my favourite villain still haven't worked that out yet. Also Abominable Snowmen would love to see this one also. The one before The Web of Fear. Personally i would be happy if any of these were to be found.

Germany is releasing Doctor Who, ONE1 is airing all episodes in Season 26, and episodes from Earlier doctors are being released on BluRay sets, ONE1 is also going to broadcast the new series when it airs (if it airs)

It's so ridiculous, when you think about it, that they just junked so many episodes, from one of the most popular T.V. Series. Now: 'The Ice Warriors,' doesn't get any TV or twitch time, because, of just two episodes being missing!
When you realize most of the stories still existed in Australia in 1975, and the BBC stopped destroying them in 1978 we were so close to saving them. Australia changed to colour TV on March 1st 1975. They continued regular screenings of colour episodes through the 70s and 80s, but decided they ddin't need the black and white episodes. If only they'd hung onto them a couple of more years.......
It makes you wonder what would happen, if we actually invented time travel one day!
I'm actually chuckling at the thought, of us just arriving in the 70s and doing whatever we can to stop them from junking the episodes!
The timeline would be screwed within a week!
@@carealoo744 I had a recurring dream a few years ago. I travelled back in time (my brain decided to not fill me in on how I achieved it) armed with a DVD recorder & made regular visits back to record the missing episodes. I apparently rented a room & all that was in it was a TV, the recorder & a chair. Then I anonymously gave them to the Beeb, basking in triumph knowing that I blew everyone's minds. A mystery for the ages that was never solved. Damn that was a good dream. 😅
Dreams are funny like that. Not filling you in on half the details, but for some reason you don't even notice! If you did, you could accomplish lucid dreaming! :)
This may not be popular but I would like to see live actors reproduce the missing episodes. The animations don't, for me, reproduce the scare. Especially the ice warriors.
Can't wait for 'Fury from the deep'. My favourite missing episode!!
Btw.: Will u represent us the colorless episodes from the Pertwee era, too?
There's only two of those, and they colorised one of them. But yeah, it would make a nice appendix to the series.

Evil - I don’t like the first half but parts 4-7 are where it picks up. I really want to see the playing Daleks they were funny i wish I could see it properly though
Abominable - 6 episodes and only 1 Part I think it needs more surviving to be easier to watch
Ice Warriors - I like this story it should be complete but it has also been animated
Hmm I can’t wait for you to cover The Web of Fear, I’ve heard Ep 3 was found in 2011 only to get nicked.

7:05 The full Story their goes that in the late 1960s, German TV Station ZDF (The German Equivalent of BBC Two) were interested in licensing the Show for a German Release, but after a viewing of the Ice Warriors Executives at the time decided against it. Because of this the Show didn't start airing over here until 1989, when private TV Station Sat. 1 started airing Episodes of the 6th and 7th Doctors.

Question on the Abominable Snowmen... Wasn't there a 2nd reel of behind the scenes film done by Frazer Hines? I vaguely remember it being referenced in the intro of the LC recon.

Evil of the Daleks 100% ! probably the one i want found the most. The Ice Warriors i loved probably my favourite villain still haven't worked that out yet. Also Abominable Snowmen would love to see this one also. The one before The Web of Fear. Personally i would be happy if any of these were to be found.

7:02 The BBC Restoration Team may have asked ZDF (the german tv channel that had the Audition Prints) personally, but unfortunately they have no tapes there.
