Watching younger people watch him makes me realize how steeped in 60s-90s pop culture and politics his lyrics are. It would take HOURS to explain all of the back stories and history behind nearly every line or scene in this video
Or just the fazed-reaction of the Osama part. Like I don't blame him, so don't get on me about it. Just makes me feel weird where back in the day that'd make everyone gasp, now it's like who is this cave dweller?
You gotta check the dates these songs were released. This song was released 11 years before Rap God. People were so upset by his music back in the day they protested against him at the Grammys and they wanted MTV to stop playing his music. Hell, this song came out the year after 9/11 and the video has a bit with Osama bin Laden dancing in a cave and another one with him mocking the vice president's heart condition while electrocuting him. Eminem's music is kinda like what Seinfeld is to TV shows. It influenced pop culture and the stuff that came after it so much that it's hard for people hearing it for the first time today to understand why it was such a big thing. There's people running around today unironically calling themselves stans and claiming to be a part of stan culture that don't know that 'Stan' is an Eminem song about an overly-obsessed fan whose obsession ruined his life and led him to do terrible things.
Don't listen to those who say you talk too much. TH-cam is VERY strict about music. Pausing is necessary so you won't get a strike. Most people don't get that. You're doing a good job. Yes, they tried to cancel him. Rap God came out way after the days of MTV. Also, Em is hilarious...lol. Here's the story. He did the Marshall Mather's CD and the media was like, "where's slim shady/bring back slim shady". So this was his answer to that. Also, he was constantly judged for his more "uncomfortable" lyrics and that kids were buying the CD. So he pointed out that it's not his responsibility, it's the parents job to keep their kids away from explicit content.
100% agreed, YT and the labels never seemed to care about the Fair Use Doctrine. Talking over the song won't help, that algorithm is sneaky. Pausing and chatting is definitely the best way to TRY to avoid a claim. Once he clears more subs, it'll make more sense to have a Patreon and do live streams. I've been in live streams that get the plug pulled and go dead when the algorithm detects copyrighted songs. I've seen people try a LOT of ways to trick it, from slowing a song down to like 98% speed to inserting an extra layer of "noise".
This version is mild. They changed a lot of lyrics to make it radio friendly. They had to. A lot of his early lyrics seriously pushed the limits of what people thought you should be able to say. He was literally challenged by the government on a few things.
It was also an amazing experience being from another country, where 'explicit language' isn't really a thing. I mean sure the CD's had those images printed on them but that was because American produced music was sold with the label, they didn't bother printing any without lol. It was meaningless overseas. Watching the 'controversy' from afar was crazy. I was up to date to the references and followed the outrage without the panic where I was at. Kinda similar to the Satanic Panic you know? Everything was pretty chill at home. Sure, not completely but not as crazy as it was in the USA.

"Why would they let him say certain things that he said on Rap God" vs "cancel him on MTV" - Eminem was a cultural phenomenon during the late 90s/early 2000s. Eminem is still massive relatively, but even now he's like 5% of his peak force.
"Who is he dissing". Literally EVERYONE who had anything to say about him LOL. I was in 7th grade when Eminem hit the scene with "My Name Is" and it was wildly vulgar and mainstream all over MTV. Watching this video 2 decades later (!!) makes me appreciate him even more because every gag and clip in the video references and makes fun of some pretty niche pop culture moments "you had to be there for".
I remember an interviewer asked Eminem if his daughters listened to his music. He said, no absolutely not, they're too young. So I think what he's saying is it's the parents' responsibility to prevent their kids from offensive lyrics. The solution is not to try to ban the artists.

He was considered controversial because of his lyrics and popularity. In 2002 Walmart (our biggest retailer) decided to not sell his CD’s which was crazy, insane at the time because it cost the company multi millions of dollars and just made people want his albums even more.
I believe that this was him throwing back to his original, more comedic, Slim Shady persona after getting real DARK with his Marshall Mathers LP... if I remember correctly
They didn't just try to cancel him on MTV, they tried to cancel him completely. In his first 2 albums he disses over 100 people and makes it clear who he's dissing. The gayrights people tried the hardest saying he was homopobic and his music was hateful. But after he preformed with Elton John at the Grammys everyone back off.
There’s been so many times people complained about Em even today his old stuff still gets brought up because he says whatever he wants no matter the level but he doesn’t care and would do it anyways
Love the reaction man would love to watch you discover Eminem’s story through his catalog start from the beginning and it will unfold Stans will be here for all of it
When Em is in the cave with a beard he is impersonating osama binladen. He dresses up as all the characters in this and the log is from a challenge on survivor, a desert island programme on at the time. Eminem in more recent years writes and produces loads on songs which have been released in the charts by other artists singing them so he is someone you want to know of. ❤
When this song came out... the laws about speech were a little bit different in terms of the FCC. They did try to cancel him on MTV but this song came from his 3rd professional album. At the MTV music awards he performed live "The real Slim Shady" (2nd album) where he took shots at female singers in the audience. Mainly Christina Aguilera. And rappers weren't necessarily doing that yet. He was the pioneer of the battle mentality in mainstream music. It was new to about 80% of the American audience. By the time rap god came out which was like, what 2014 or 15.. can't remember, but Em and a whole lot of others had been sparring with FCC guidelines in the name of free speech. Not quite as big of a victory as the one by 2LiveCrew but even from the 90's on, artists challenged the rules the whole way, erroding policies and stances the entire time. Today's FCC is regression. With the way woke ❄️'s cry about being offended, it's almost like everything the old artists did has been nullified. Oh.. And I disagree about old Em being better than new Em. Old Em is greatness, but the evolution of his delivery, the expansion of his style, the diversity of cadence... he might just be the best wordsmith in a long line of poets... and then maybe the best mankind will ever see. Disagree? Who has more focus on the perfection of his/her rhyme schemes, and who in this day and age DOESN'T use ghost writers? Cause Em doesn't.
As someone who has been addicted to em since I was 17 now 43 and I think old eminem has evolved he had been at this 30 yrs and he has matured with age and ppl just say that stupid ish to put him down EDS = EMINEM DERANGEMENT SYNDROME you said check out music to be murdered by all was great but no regrets, book of rhymes, zues, etc there all great
His song "White America" explains a little more about why he was getting cancelled. " See the problem is I speak to suburban kids, Who otherwise would've never knew these words exist" "Surely hip-hop was never a problem In Harlem, Only in Boston After it bothered the fathers of daughters starting to blossom" Culture was more conservative leaning back then and he was still able to reach a wider untapped audience in the white communities. I was one of them. I didn't really listen to rap before Eminem. I was in high school when he blew up. I then listened to Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, N.W.A and others. I still listen to his older stuff for nostalgia, but personally, I'm not a huge fan of modern Eminem.
Man don’t worry about talking. If they wanna hear the song without you talking then why in the fuck are they watching reaction videos? They can very easily just listen to the song by itself.
At the time this song came out, it was the beginning of his rise, and there was definitely a split between people that loved him or lived to hate him 😂 He was saying it would be empty without him because people wouldn't have a much to complain about.
My dude, you called “The Real World” segment “The Amanda Show” when in reality you meant it looks like “All That”, but bro, it’s supposed to be The Real World, one of the best reality shows
This is so funny that most these lyrics the upcoming fans in the future aren’t gonna understand about beef, but we all went through it, so we know what he was talking about
He could say whatever he wanted then AND now and still be sold en masse. Being “canceled” doesn’t have anything to do with being able to put stuff out. It wouldn’t get blocked by anyone. Theoretically, if he were cancelled it would lead to people not buying it, but it doesn’t mean it couldn’t be put out. That said, people have been trying to cancel him since he came out, though the concept wasn’t called that at the time. There were protests outside of his concerts and literal congressional committees trying. It didn’t work then and it wouldn’t work now. Being cancelled only works if you let it.
I love how this generation says you can't say they today..... You can say whatever the fuck you want today! Y'all to worried about what this person or that person has to say about what you said. Oh don't cancel me don't let me lose followers. Say whatever the fuck you want they don't like it they can move the fuck on. Notice the people that say what they want are still relevant..... Weird right
a lot of people might miss that the opening of the song pays homage to Rapping Duke which Biggie also quotes... "daha daha, who ever thought hiphop would take it this far".
Brotha they tried to cancel Eminem when cancel culture didn’t even exist. Picket fences & signs outside of every show he did. Tried to censor him with everything they had & he never gave a single fuck. That’s one of the reasons why so many of us call him the GOAT.
The bearded guy at 9:12 is Osama bin Laden in his cave lol. Also Chris Kirkpatrick was a member of N*Sync. I guess they had beef lol Also the scenes in the reality show in the house is mocking The Real World (MTV show) & the scene with the people on the floating poop is mocking the show Survivor (which just came out around that time). Lots of early 2000s references in this video :) Also, Dick Cheney was the VP of the U.S. from 2000-2008.
Pause, rewind if you need to and discuss as often as you like. Helps to get videos up and shows the viewers you are trying to get the lyrics and word play. Also try to get uncensored versions, all words are there for a reason . His first release, Hi My Name Is blew up MTV. Suburban kids not only bought his music but dived into rap, both old and new at the time. Parents and influential politicians blamed Em exposing kids to the realities of urban life and Em's profanity and slurs. Just like now he references pop culture of the time so this has tons of references from around 2000-2001. Hope you enjoy his catalog. Many find it easiest to start at the beginning and go on from there to see his evolution, but if you skip around viewers will always help you out with background info in comments. There are a lot of STANs out there. FYI when you react to Stan get the long explicit version. It is a mini movie and you miss important lines due to censors. Just subscribed and going to check out your content. Liking the few I have seen the last few days ❤️🔥
The best song order for Em would be the o start with Track #1 from his fist album and listen to the songs in order from the fist to his most recent. Alsi, it's good ti hear them in order because he does reference his previous songs in some songs.
Its so crazy these kids dont know of his history. We weren't allowed to listen to his music. We had to hide it. Parents legit protested him en mass. Everyone who could tried to stop him and his influence. He forced his way through. as he himself said "Have you ever been hated or discriminated against? I have, I been protested and demonstrated against."
His songs and videos made fun of so many other artists and their videos at the time that younger react presenters now can't identify them all. And people can still see the humor even if they don't know exactly who he's singing about.
Em reminds me of kratos. Young em (and kratos) is chaotic, destructive and always picking a fight with others. Meanwhile, older Eminem and Kratos are more deep, methodical and hold way more power and knowledge. Both are good in their respective ways(and both grew a bigger beard), and the white God of Rap and the white God of War are both not people to be (and i cannot stress this enough) fucked with.
3:28 Em said a bunch of things back then and is still saying stuff today. You should check out his song, "Tone Deaf" which came out in 2020. It's his song about people trying to cancel him.
Hold onto that seat of yours bud if you don’t know why MTV and politicians tried to cancel Shady dig deeper into his older albums you will see but doesn’t matter it hasn’t been the same since shady left and we got Em.
Damn man. Listening to people of your generation kinda makes me sad and angry at the same time. "the stuff you guys could get away with is crazy"... fuck, that hit me. I probably just now realized where this new world is heading. As far as i'm concerned - you should be totally fine saying literally whatever the fuck you want, however the fuck you wanna say it. Period. And i'm genuinely ready to fight to the death to defend myself, if anyone would ever try to silence me for whatever reason. Anyway, enough of the negative stuff... keep up the work and have a nice day! :)
As a 44 year old who saw Eminem when he had one hit then the next year in his prime at the Up in Smoke tour it’s sad that the parents of these children didn’t teach them. I never wanted kids but trust that they would have known all the references. I also grew up the youngest of 6 kids with a 20 year age gap with my oldest sister so I appreciated the knowledge I had that my peers didn’t.
Oh you are in for a fun ride if you decide to go down the Em rabbit hole, so many amazing tracks for you to go back to. I'd recommend going back to the beginning but just some tracks to check out , Cleaning out my Closet and Headlights (should be done together), Stan, Sing for the Moment, The Way I Am, Like Toy Soldiers, Mocking bird, Not Afraid, Love the Way you Lie, Castle and Arose (should also be done together). Make sure they are all the explicit versions though. Also check out his movie 8 Mile. Enjoy the ride!

Doesn't matter if MTV cancels him or anyone, they don't even play music videos anymore.
Eminem from what I have seen over the decades is that no one should ever battle rap him. His dedication to his word game is insane.
" See the problem is I speak to suburban kids, Who otherwise would've never knew these words exist"
"Surely hip-hop was never a problem In Harlem, Only in Boston
After it bothered the fathers of daughters starting to blossom"
Culture was more conservative leaning back then and he was still able to reach a wider untapped audience in the white communities.
For people who dont know at the end he’s dressed up as osama bin laden fuck me I love Eminem he takes the piss out of anyone 😂
Dude! Rap was dead and his lyrics were just so fresh out brought it all back. He was canceled from MTV and moms were all up in arms about him.
you know your old when even eminem is old school.....
Exactly! But I’m 62 so I was not young when I fell in love with Em
Man don’t worry about talking. If they wanna hear the song without you talking then why in the fuck are they watching reaction videos? They can very easily just listen to the song by itself.
This sing is from way before Rap God
At the time this song came out, it was the beginning of his rise, and there was definitely a split between people that loved him or lived to hate him 😂
He was saying it would be empty without him because people wouldn't have a much to complain about.
Facts, the cancel culture has no power if you don't bend the knee
It’s supposed to be Moby. The bald tracksuit guy
Weird right
I appreciate your comment. It’s different for me cause most guys like myself were conditioned so when we hear it it’s taboo for us.
Thank you, man...
Im OFFICIALLY old as FUUUUCK now. 🤣💯
I just needed the moment to truly understand that fact. 🤣🤣🤣
5:18 That's the Real World not Amanda
The very first .1 seconds of you saying “TH-cam” sounded like Tim Westwood
TIM WESTWOOD!!!!!!! Man I use to binge watch all those freestyles when I was in highschool 😂 you just took me back man I forgot about that
It's less 'who' is he dissing, and more like who 'hasn't' this man dissed 😁
This song is a year 2000 pop culture history lesson
“What does he have against limp biskit” hahahahhahaha
You have some rabbit holes to fall down man
If you don’t understand the references, Look it up.
Don’t guess, don’t speculate, don’t wonder out loud.
a lot of people might miss that the opening of the song pays homage to Rapping Duke which Biggie also quotes... "daha daha, who ever thought hiphop would take it this far".
Oh I love the old Eminem 😁😁🤘
Brotha they tried to cancel Eminem when cancel culture didn’t even exist. Picket fences & signs outside of every show he did. Tried to censor him with everything they had & he never gave a single fuck. That’s one of the reasons why so many of us call him the GOAT.
Wow!! That is crazy
The bearded guy at 9:12 is Osama bin Laden in his cave lol. Also Chris Kirkpatrick was a member of N*Sync. I guess they had beef lol
Also the scenes in the reality show in the house is mocking The Real World (MTV show) & the scene with the people on the floating poop is mocking the show Survivor (which just came out around that time).
Lots of early 2000s references in this video :)
Also, Dick Cheney was the VP of the U.S. from 2000-2008.
The Julie v Puck slap ❤
@@Noneyun Oh yeah! I gotta watch this video again :D
3:57 you should do an Eminem deep dive
Seriously ! Blow your mind
Have someone explain all the references. You are missing 80% of them just because you are a diff generation
Ps. The fact that these references dont hit this generation makes me feel old.
The part you said reminded you of the Amanda Show was a reference to the MTV show called The Real World
You will be surprised the more you listen to his work.
Always loved this song.
The best song order for Em would be the o start with Track #1 from his fist album and listen to the songs in order from the fist to his most recent. Alsi, it's good ti hear them in order because he does reference his previous songs in some songs.
Not sure if you have listened to the beastie boys but they were great and this gentleman is probably one of the best from the 2000s
I just discovered them I have a playlist made of all my reactions to them
96’ Bonnie & Clyde!!!!!!!!
Whoever wrote the Amanda show had to be on hard drugs 😂
Ayooooo😂😂😂
GOAT
Its so crazy these kids dont know of his history. We weren't allowed to listen to his music. We had to hide it. Parents legit protested him en mass. Everyone who could tried to stop him and his influence. He forced his way through. as he himself said "Have you ever been hated or discriminated against? I have, I been protested and demonstrated against."
This song is straight flames. The beat is flawless such a vibe can make any rapper sound good with the beat alone🔥🔥🔥
you are doing fine man , no sweat
This kills me the fact all the references just flew right over his head
His songs and videos made fun of so many other artists and their videos at the time that younger react presenters now can't identify them all. And people can still see the humor even if they don't know exactly who he's singing about.
Em reminds me of kratos. Young em (and kratos) is chaotic, destructive and always picking a fight with others. Meanwhile, older Eminem and Kratos are more deep, methodical and hold way more power and knowledge. Both are good in their respective ways(and both grew a bigger beard), and the white God of Rap and the white God of War are both not people to be (and i cannot stress this enough) fucked with.
There's slim shady and Eminem and Marshall. It's not old Eminem and new Eminem 🙄
Eminem paved the way for music. He left a huge foot print in the rap industry. Start going through his music from start to finish
Dang I miss the 2000s! I remember when this came out!
It came out in 2002 lol
@@Jiff321 meh....close enough 😜🤣
The BEST rap artist. PERIOD.
These kids know nothing what it took to get to today
Let's go!
Is he ready for “Stan” yet???
Oh you are in for a fun ride if you decide to go down the Em rabbit hole, so many amazing tracks for you to go back to. I'd recommend going back to the beginning but just some tracks to check out , Cleaning out my Closet and Headlights (should be done together), Stan, Sing for the Moment, The Way I Am, Like Toy Soldiers, Mocking bird, Not Afraid, Love the Way you Lie, Castle and Arose (should also be done together). Make sure they are all the explicit versions though. Also check out his movie 8 Mile. Enjoy the ride!
The references he makes go completely over new listeners heads and it makes me sad
ENN is Eminem News Network :)
Talk all you up bro it's cool if people want to hear the song they can go watch the video
The bald guy was a diss on Moby, and old EDM artist during the time
Music to be murdered by goes hard whole album
