  • Hello,
    This video shows how to replace and upgrade the starter and starter cable on ford cars and trucks. The old style (single cable) starter has long been discontinued and only aftermarket and remanufactured units are available. I have had plenty of bad experiences with these starters so I finally decided to upgrade to the ford performance starter. This upgraded starter has two cables dedicated to the solenoid and starter motor giving it more power.

    Another reason I love my bronco Is that we have people like you to thank in working on them. You doin the lord’s work man. I had my starter replaced already but I might make this upgrade anyway. I definitely didnt pay the high price for this starter…Anyways thanks man.

      I definitely recommend this upgrade if/when your current starter goes out. For me mine always struggled during the winter time but would act right once temps warmed up. I’ve got some in depth videos coming up for this truck soon.

      I realized my truck won't start and the battery won't get jumped. There's no sound when I turn the key NONE.. I'm suspecting the starter, it's always struggle a bit to start occasionally.
      Think that's a fix is there a right way to diagnosis ?

    • @LordKenjii
      @LordKenjii 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@LethalityKing do you have a second person? If so, have them turn the key while you bang on the starter. If the truck starts then it’s the starter. Keep hitting it with something hard like a flashlight. I havent watched this video in a while so you might already know this. Give it a shot.

      @LordKenjii oh yea I forgot about that. Haha
      I did by pass the solenoid with the screwdriver and it actually cranked but it didn't turn over.
      I'll try that tomorrow

    Can you tell me what the actual model number of the mini starter. Trying to change the starter on my ‘93 Bronco.

      I have added a new link to the description for the starter, I believe it is part number:M-11000-B51 for automatic transmissions. Manuals will be different.

    Hello guys! I finally installed this Ford Performance Starter and it was long due. My flexplate took a beating from all those other starters and I will be replacing it soon....

      Yeah for sure that flex plate looked like it got chewed up. Look forward to that video!

    I think the performance is driven by the “PMGR” or permanent magnet gear reduction technology - as compared to the older style drive style.. when you added the additional cable on the positive side of the solenoid it reminded me of the PMGR style which I believe is what you installed

    That's wild. I just did this in my 94 f150 last year. Starters normally go out every two years. Ive had the truck for almost 15 years and it was my dad's before that. I've replaced a ton of starters on it over the years. Reman, new, OEM. They all were about the same. I read a forum post of a guy saying use a Ford performance starter meant for the mustangs. It's cranks way faster and less. A year later and it's still going strong. Before I would notice a slow down or even stall outs that would have to be corrected with a hammer lol.
    Great video spreading the info so more people learn there's better options out there.

    That's a nice kit bringing the starter cable, I bought mine separate. Had some luck with a new Bosch starter being beefier than the replaced part, never thought the parts store ones were that bad but it makes sense. Super easy job

    great videos, and this one is quite instructive. My starter broke 3 weeks ago, second one in 3 years, on my F250 1987 7,5L 460. Same ACDELCO model as yours in the video. I was looking to replace it by a stronger one, but difficult to find one... Would love to find a performance one as the one you mention apparently is not compatible. Any clue how to find a compatible one strong enough? difficult to find...

    • @TheFixTech
      @TheFixTech  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This starter will work on the 460, the only difference is the top bolt threads into the starter which you can either use a heli coil or a nut and bolt setup. Also Powermaster has some good options in case you are interested.

      @@TheFixTech Many thanks, i will surely switch to this one then in the coming weeks, tired of being stuck on the road because of starter issue (twice une the last two years). I was looking at the powermaster 9405 also, I guess going with ford is safe. Many thanks

    Definitely having an issue with a starter I got at Advance for my 93. Clearly audibly spinning a few seconds after starting.
    Probably have to do this but man… $300+. Nothing’s cheap anymore. May try to go to a local rebuilder and see if they can tweak the big box one first and make work. Original one lasted 30 years. Irked I sent the core in now.

    • @TheFixTech
      @TheFixTech  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sadly nothing can help the big box ones, you may be able to find an original used one online or at a salvage yard and rebuild it. You can also find these on sale occasionally. It is pricey but I got tired of getting stuck.

      So my 5.0 had to get a new alternator. And It comes with a single wire that attaches to the positive relay. I attached the new starter cable to where you said (which has the alternator connection) and I'm getting a bad connection. Is there another place to place either of the wires (alternator or starter)
