Hi everyone! I'm an American from the Northeast (New England). I want to create a watering hole for people who want to discuss, learn and teach about history through TH-cam videos which you guys recommend to me through the comment section or over on Discord. Let's be respectful but, just as importantly, not be afraid to question any and everything about historical records in order to give us the most accurate representation of the history of our species and of our planet!

Also, that ‘6th sense’ thing (ignoring the fact there are more than 5 anyway - such as proprioception (or ‘kinaesthesia’) , the sense that we can determine the orientation and relative position of our limbs) - but related to feeling that someone’s staring at you is pretty much entirely confirmation bias.
All the times you’ve thought someone was staring at you, and you’ve turned round and they aren’t, are forgotten as false positives. Whereas any time you’ve looked back and someone is looking at you, you will remember it.
We all tend to remember the hits, and ignore the misses.
But on top of that, there’s also all the times that someone *has* been staring at you, but you *haven’t* looked back - in which case you wouldn’t know anyway.
And, if that happened to occur more frequently than you actually ‘sensing’ someone looking at you and they in fact were, then would that mean that we could say that we had a 6th Sense that specifically impeded our ability to detect when someone is staring at us?
I read somewhere that soldiers surveilling targets even from great distance through binoculars, were told to look away if their target looked in their direction due to this scopaesthesia sense.
Temperature, pressure, balance, etc etc
@@IanDarley I think this would be purely anecdotal, as there’s no known physical mechanism by which person A would determine that person B were looking at them, regardless of distance or the optics which person B were using to look at person A.
(Unless of course there were other identifying factors that could be picked up by devices or external to person A, such as heat or light sensors etc.)
Just playing devil's advocate... It could be an old survival instinct that's evolved into a dormant state over time? Therefore a former sense that was fully needed at the time but now we only have passable reminiscence of nowadays. We still don't know what consciousness is yet, as in higher intelligence consciousness (not just being conscious). So there could definitely be a lot more unanswered questions about our "senses".

One of my favourite bands of the late 60s early 70s…. Yes, I am that old, we’re Groundhogs, who brought out an album called ‘Thank Christ for the Bomb.’ Basically saying that opposing nations having the bomb created a stalemate.

Back in the day I used to record the radio shows on a Saturday so I could listen to them on a Monday morning at school.
Keep in mind Karl is their radio producer, their boss in the beginning as Ricky explains. It was radio first and then podcast/cartoon.

@@annother3350 It isn't in high-birthrate countries. All countries which have very high birthrates are very poor - proving that it's a bad thing for a country to have a high birthrate.
An increase of a billion since 2011, yet many people insist it isn't a problem! Nigeria has over 225m people, the vast majority of whom live in severe poverty. It has a ridiculous birthrate & several current insurgencies. Its population is set to triple by the end of the century. All because of religion! How can adding hundreds of millions of extra poor people possibly be a good thing?!
@Darkstar There's no other reasonable explanation of why all countries that have high birthrates are very poor & very religious.

I'm on Karl's wavelength way more than I think Ricky thought anyone would be when he had these conversations, I get Ricky's point as well, but some of what Karl is saying makes sense and I agree with him a lot lol

Hey Connor, you are talking about instinct, something that has been part of life since the first thing ate the second thing Also the monkeys name was Ham.
Its funny as there is often educational or thought provoking topics brought up but they always get completely derailed by Karl going off on wild tangents 😅
Poor Karl😂 he's confused a true story of the chimpanzee named Ham that flew in a rocket in 1961 for the project Mercury mission, Ham had no direct input into controls but during 'training' he was rewarded with banana pellets if he pushed the correct lever, the wrong lever would result in an electric shock to the soles of his feet. The idea was to understand how a human may work under such conditions in spaceflight, Ham had electrodes all over monitoring his cognitive abilities and general health, he was given instructions to see if he could still understand (not fly the craft) . The flight lasted 17 minutes and the capsule was recovered he was alive but it was reported he had suffered extreme fear. These tests paved the way for human spaceflight. Ham was moved to a zoo and died 22 yrs later. ✌️

He was mainly on a UK show called "Most Haunted" for a long time. Like a Ghost Hunters/TAPS thing, but way funnier.

The show actually won a comedy award at one point, even though it made out it was trying to take ghost hunting "seriously".
Sadly, Derek passed away a few years ago, so now he can talk to the dead for real.

My opinion is that the "infernal" combustion engine is responsible for a huge shift in the balance of the environment. Faffing means causing a lot of aggravation.
This episode was first broadcast on 19th February 2010.
Keeping in mind the first iPhone was released in 2007, so this wasn't too long after.
Stand-alone MP3 players were still a thing then, even though the iPod was released in 2001.
My first MP3 player (around the year 2000) only had 128 Megabytes of Flash, so it could barely store more than about 30-40 songs. lol
So yeah, it's quite a while now, even though it feels like only a few years have passed.

Faffing and faffing about mean making a lot of fuss doing something, maybe 'messing about', making a lot of effort for very little result, as in 'there was an awful lot of faffing about at the airport with tickets, inoculation checks, baggage checks, body searches and dealing with customs staff'

Yes, at last someone understands. I say it often, if we hadn't have seen how devestating the bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki actually was, we might have used them in a much bigger conflict and inadvertantly destroyed the world, so paradoxically, using 2 nukes has saved us from annihilation.

People don't really properly travel the world these days; They like to think they do, but most of the time they're faces are glued to smart phones and posting on Instagram; They aren't really experiencing other cultures at all; they just want their friends and followers to think they're well travelled.
The 6th sense is less of a sense and more of an algorithm that uses the inputs of the other senses
