I am really glad Ashley stayed with Fearne, it's one of her best characters. Fearne's humor is the best, where you're never quite sure if they are actually joking or not.
Yeah, Fearne is the best character in season 3 but she has a lot of competition this time. I’m enjoying all the characters, which is strange in any show (only seen 1or two shows that were like that, see Parks and Rec)

Yeah, that's true. TBH I'm loving the scary ladies in this campaign -- sure, campaign 2 had female characters who were *powerful* and therefore scary in that you don't want to piss them off, and they were sometimes abrasive or whatnot, but this season they're both affable and genuinely scary, whether it's in terms of horrortropey scary or alien-morality scary or even Imogen's abilities which allow potentially really severe violations of boundaries.
Oh, that helps explain it for me actually, (not watched exandria much, so don't have full backstory) she read very strange and a bit off putting to me. "Why would she do this? That's so... just unkind, I don't get it.. ?" But fey morals helps frame this. Thanks :)

Yeah, that's something that I in some ways kinda dislike about C2, just Matt's utter disdain for connecting it to C1. I can completely understand why but it feels like it's unneeded in some places.
Watching your Laudna I was sure that would be my favourite but Fearne saying "I think we should kill them all" and then just STARING AT THE CAMERA DEADPAN was incredible.
I'm so happy about Laudna being a fan favorite as well. I noticed so many people being like "Beau is just Marisha with a different voice" in campaign two and it just makes me sad how much crap all the ladies get from a small toxic audience.
Beau was my favorite Marisha character by far kind of exactly because the line between the character and the actor was kind of blurry, similar to how it was kinda hard to tell where Scanlan ended and Sam Riegel began. Some say the best actors are 'chameleons' who can become unrecognizable from role to role, but I've never really found that to be true. My favorites tend to be the ones who find one or two things they can do very well and perfect that. Laudna so far seems fun and it's great that she's getting a good reception. I think a large part of that is that the rest of the crew are really leaning in to her creepiness and playing off of it, so we get the double-whammy of her being creepy and some great straight-man reactions from the rest of the crew.
People can only judge based on what they see. Plenty of people disliked either Keyleth, Beau or both, they were really grating characters on occasion. Nothing toxic about that, and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with her gender. Laudna just proves Marisha is an excellent and fun player, she's just made the unfortunate mistake of playing two annoying characters in a row, and some people couldn't see the lovely person behind them. I'm very happy she gets to be a fan favourite for once.

@@DeathnoteBB actually yes in a way. She's stated in interviews that Keyleth and Beau are people she would initially not want to be friends with if they were real. She talked about how self righteous and naive Keyleth was and playing her was a chance to learn to empathize with her viewpoint and for Beau she talked about how in the early campaign she seriously questioned if she could even keep playing Beau because of how much of a negative headspace it put her in
I also think you should go with Fearne. The opportunity to be the juxtaposition of your friend who is going as Laudna would be too good. I could imagine alot of shenanigans being gotten up to.
You absolutely killed these make-up tests! Really hard to say which one looks best. Would definitely love to see a more polished Fearne costume though. Your experiment on her hands turned out super well. Also... A+ on nailing their personalities!
Laudna has to be my favorite. Her frightening appearance which is at odds with her Transatlantic accent and her perky demeanor have really endeared me to Marisha Ray this season! You do an EXCELLENT impression and I would love to see more of her from you! :)
5:14 no tieflings _yet!_ There's still a chance that Travis's final character could be one🙂 Also, when you mentioned mental illness, my mind actually went to Laudna and more specifically Pâté de Rolo. The way she carries Pâté around and uses and speaks through/for him/them/it really makes me think that she's repressing something dark involving the de Rolo line in her past and that it's gonna resurface at the worst possible time and that we're gonna see how great an actress Marisha really is when it happens.
Yeah Laudna and Imogen have strong couple vibes, I mean Marisha has been seemingly trying to romance Laura for both the first 2 campaigns, so I do wonder if they will be confirmed as a couple or not, either way I love them. And Fearne is perfect for Ashley, I look forward to seeing where the character goes. Also incredible cosplays and video as always!
Most definitely. It only took a few minutes after their intro in C3 before my mind immediately went "these two make so much sense if they were to end up together."
I never thought of them as a potential couple. I more got motherly vibes from Laudna (do you know what I mean?), because she always checks if Imogen is ok.

This is the first time I get to watch CR as the episodes come out, which means I am be far more involved with the community and honestly, I'm having a blast. The critter hype is very real and I love it. I guess I have to thank you, Ginny, for introducing me to this wonderful fandom.
Saaammmeee! Well, except that last part; I found Critical Role through TH-cam recommendations after watching a bunch of Dimension 20. But the rest, same! XU was the first Critical Role campaign I watched, and now C3 is the first full one I get to watch in real time, and I'm loving all of it as well as the community 💗 Especially Fearne, Laudna, and Sam. Yes, I meant Sam more than FCG 😂

Your Fearne is so good because you almost have like Ashley's voice naturally, in a cosplay setting that just makes it easier to keep up just by speaking in a wistful voice. I definitely agree that you should lean that direction. Great job!

Indeed! I've always loved everybody in every season, but Laudna just... Feels right for Marisha. In a different way than Beau, that one was more on the power fantasy side (and there's nothing wrong with that), more serious in the play. With Laudna she really looks like she's having fun.

@@snowycryptids Well we know that she's from Whitestone & (I'm pretty sure) was there around & during the Briarwood attack & conquest. With that & the fact that she is a Hollow One in terms of race, I've wondered if she was a De Rolo in her former life who either somehow survived or was resurrected after the Briarwoods attack. With that in mind & I do recognize that it's a big stretch but my mind is wanting to believe Laudna is or well was Melanie De Rolo reborn, plus Melanie WAS in to necromancy whilst she was alive.

I really like Fearne, though if you do her long-term definitely secure all the foliage with something that doesn't stab you if you move, lol. Learned that lesson the hard way. I may be biased, as the "We should kill them, teehee." with ruffles is kinda my thing as a character.
I don't know if I have a favourite. You did such a great job on these! They all read exactly like the characters. And the impressions are really good too, especially considering the small amount of time that we've spent with these characters. If Fearne and Laudna are just quickly thrown together outfits, then I'm excited to see how much further you could take the costumes. Would you go full on hooves with Fearne, or something that gives the feeling of hooves?
Fearne is such an agent of chaos and I love that for Ashley. I ordered everything to make her as soon as the ExU art dropped, now I just have to make the damn thing!
For this being a test/ closet cosplay they all turned out amazing. I agree and think Fearne is the most interesting one you put together. Figuring out the legs could be tricky but I think you could really pull it off.
It's so funny coming back to this video after the big Laudna reveals. Like you saying "she's definitely got some connection to the De Rolos and what happened in Whitestone" and you wondering about her ear cuffs... it's all coming together!!!
These are awesome, you’re so talented. As for what you were saying about the C1 references in this campaign; I think first they really wanted C2 to be distinct and separate from C1 (which they nailed in a big way) and I think coming off of The Legend of Vox Machina, they all have C1 on the brain, so naturally there are more references to those stories.
Hard choice which one you'd be best as. They all sort of mirror your persona in different ways. Fearne definitely seems the most fun to play around with. I can only imagine the kinds of songs that might come out of her.
I think you're absolutely right about Imogen and I think you'd do a wonderful Imogen, and it's definitely...uh... the easiest of the three? But Fearne... just seems to suit you. And hey if you go slightly crazy putting it all together every shoot, you can channel that chaos into character!
Great job, Ginny! You made me want to watch the commercial. You should totally go with Fearne. You were clearly most comfortable with it, and the costume had SO many pretty details.
Honestly I really would love to watch campaign 2 but I only found out about critical role when episode 20ish came out of campaign 3 and I don’t have like 600 hours spare to watch a whole campaign. But luckily enough, they have campaign 2 recaps and campaign 1 has a whole animated show, I kinda lucked out there.
Must admit I never got the anti Keylith viewpoint as for me she was my favourite character from campaign one but oddly Bo did nothing for me :) Laura has been my favourite player but not sure which character will become this campaigns Jester for me as they all seem strong and interesting! Great job on these btw :)
Oddly enough I’m the other way around, I adore Beau but Keylith was never my favorite. I never understood the hate, but I simply never quite loved her. Now Beau is just so interesting to me, I loved it.
Hmm, tough decision! You /sound/ the most like Imogen, and I can definitely see you pulling her off, but Fearne has a great combination of light and colourful and whimsical, but also that edge of "let's kill them all". ;-)
These are all fantastic, but you absolutely killed it as Fearne. If you do keep up with that one, it'll be interesting how you evolve it after watching ExU and as Campaign 3 goes on. All told though, I love the effort and detail you put into these looks and their personalities.

I've come to this series pretty blind - I entirely missed both the first and second campaigns (and honestly, I don't have the time to ever catch up, holy damn it's a lot of video to watch), but I watched the Exandria Unlimited campaign and have now started on the 3rd campaign as it rolls out. Fearne is a delight, Ashley Johnson's amazing, earnest delivery of hilariously timed lines were one of my favorite parts of the EU campaign, but I have to admit, Laudna is also phenomenal. I entirely agree that the combination of friendliness and creepiness makes for great character and I can't wait to see how this all goes forward!
I don't actively follow your content, but saw this pop up in my recommended (4 months later) and was like "eh, sure, why not" and... lmao, you were so right about Laudna. Noting the ear cuffs being important (I didn't see anyone else pointing those out!) and also, of course, the Whitestone connection (although that one's more of a given)
I literally JUST noticed, now, *literally over a whole month in to the campaign*, that they updated Fearne's design in the C3 character art. I'm so observant lmao. I'm going to go back and look at both of those character portraits again, and also see if I can spot anything for Orym and Dorian too! edit: realizing that compliments to a creator shouldn't solely exist inside of my head because that doesn't make sense lol???: I was really amazed by how the Laudna test was like "okay, this makeup seems pretty goth" and "oh, neat hammer prop" and then with everything put in place together suddenly it was way more than the sum of its parts? If *that* makes any sense?
HOW DID I COMPLETELY MISS THE GOLDEN EAR CUFFS ON LAUDNA!?! I LOVE EAR CUFFS!! Fantastic job by the way, I feel like you managed to capture the vibe of all 3 of them super well! I know this isn't your thing, but I'm genuinely curious to see how people approach cosplaying/representing Fresh Cut Grass. Also, I'm super curious to see how Fearne evolves as the campaign goes on too! I feel like one of the key differences between her and Nott is that while Nott's chaos was partially due to trauma and being thrust into an extremely stressful situation, Fearne's is just a part of who she is-from what we've seen so far, she's apparently always been like this. There are some interesting things said about her in the Exandria Unlimited Wrap-up (that I won't be discussing here) but it really gave me an appreciation for how alien Fearne's sense of morality and being is as compared to normal people. Anyway, chances are that you don't read this comment (and who could blame you with 900+ more to read, jesus christ) but regardless loved the video and hope you have a lovely day!
Idk why, but for some reason, I have decided to cosplay Imogen. I have never done cosplay before, and generally have a fear of dressing up, even for Halloween. I'm an AMAB enby who currently presents pretty masculine, but would like to not. Something about Imogen's character just really spoke to me, and I'm hoping that over the next year, I can do this. Wish me luck! Also I absolutely adore all of your tests, but especially Fearne.
The current party has a lot to live up to if they're going to be as much fun as Jester. Your portrayal of Jester was what got me watching your vids in the first place. Laudna is certainly my fave of the new batch.

Jester was my favorite critical role character for the longest time, still is, and your cosplay helped with that. Now with a new cast of characters, I’m pretty sure fearne is now my favorite of C3, with jester still being my fav over all
Hey do you know that you look like Maisie Williams? Jokes aside, I think the C3 characters having connections to C1 is sort of the players pushing back (friendly of course) on how Matt tried to keep C2 and C1 separate. So I think they purposefully wrote C1 stuff into their backstories. A little to annoy Matt, yes. But this also means that they are genuinely curious about his world and what kind of impact C1s had on it. Sure they know that C1s were important in broad strokes. Unlike the C2 end, the C1 end or even the Chroma Arc were pretty well known by even the random citizen. But I think they wanted to hear it from Matt and he was not having it in C2. However, now, he has to fess up. (We know how Liam always put something on his sheet to annoy Mayy, Lucky, Keen Mind. I just think this time, few others joined in)
I love Laudna, she's got that creepy stuff going for her, yet she's drop dead hilarious. And I cannot get over the fact that Travis started the creepy whispering of message and I cannot get enough of it already

@@eospolaris9472 Each campaign is its own adventure and generally isolated from the other campaigns, so I would say it's fine to start with campaign 3 even if you didn't see the previous two. That being said, I highly encourage you do eventually watch the other two campaigns if you can find the time, since all the campaigns do take place in the same world and that tends to lend itself to callbacks, references, and possibly overlaps with previous campaigns!
Ginny, to echo what others have said, you absolutely 💯 percent KILLED it with these cosplays (even if they weren't full on cosplays, just make up tests), and it is really difficult to pick a favorite!!! I am leaning Imogen or Fearne, but I gotta say, I LOVE your quotes that you picked, they just captured each character so well!!!

They really are VERY minor spoilers. Like "this character is from this location" or "this character had a dream," haha. There honestly isn't much that CAN be spoiled after this few episodes - the one MAJOR spoiler that I know of, I didn't talk about in this video.

Laudna is the first of Marisha's character that I can't tell the inspiration for: Key'leth was Aang from 'Avatar: The Last Airbender', and Beau was Korra from 'Avatar: The Legend of Korra'. I think that's one of the reasons that people approve of Laudna is because she's originally Marisha.
Imogen is my favorite and the one I've been vibing with the most so far. I love her purple hair and eyes and her freckles, I love her powers, and she is so sweet and cute! I also love that her powers is like a love letter to mental issues like social anxiety, as I myself have some pretty bad social anxiety issues. It is so refreshing to see a character with those kinds of problems not only accurately and respectful display them, but for those around her to also understand and help her when needed. My anxiety can get so bad that I will literally become sick to my stomach and I will instinctively run away to solitude (usually in a bathroom or something) if I'm around too many people in too active of a situation like a big party or something. I've actually had to leave early from big events that I was supposed to help out with/spend time with my family at because I got so sick from being around too many people and take the rest of the day off just to recover from all the excitement. At first it was pretty annoying to everyone that I got so freaked out so easily in such big active crowds after such a short time, but as people became more away of mental issues and my family came to realize that they themselves have some anxieties that they were not aware of, I've had an easier time coping with my anxiety without too much drama and my friends and family have been far more willing to help me out when it starts to get to be too much for me. So, yeah. I am absolutely in love with Imogen and cannot wait to see how she grows as a character and what secrets we may learn about her.

My favorite line so far in the whole campaign is Fearne saying "We're here to kill you" to Lord Esteross. Its so perfect

Laudna has to be my favorite. Her frightening appearance which is at odds with her Transatlantic accent and her perky demeanor have really endeared me to Marisha Ray this season! You do an EXCELLENT impression and I would love to see more of her from you! :)

Also, when you mentioned mental illness, my mind actually went to Laudna and more specifically Pâté de Rolo. The way she carries Pâté around and uses and speaks through/for him/them/it really makes me think that she's repressing something dark involving the de Rolo line in her past and that it's gonna resurface at the worst possible time and that we're gonna see how great an actress Marisha really is when it happens.

Indeed! I've always loved everybody in every season, but Laudna just... Feels right for Marisha. In a different way than Beau, that one was more on the power fantasy side (and there's nothing wrong with that), more serious in the play.

@@snowycryptids Well we know that she's from Whitestone & (I'm pretty sure) was there around & during the Briarwood attack & conquest. With that & the fact that she is a Hollow One in terms of race, I've wondered if she was a De Rolo in her former life who either somehow survived or was resurrected after the Briarwoods attack.
With that in mind & I do recognize that it's a big stretch but my mind is wanting to believe Laudna is or well was Melanie De Rolo reborn, plus Melanie WAS in to necromancy whilst she was alive.

I really like Fearne, though if you do her long-term definitely secure all the foliage with something that doesn't stab you if you move, lol. Learned that lesson the hard way. I may be biased, as the "We should kill them, teehee." with ruffles is kinda my thing as a character.

Laudna is my favorite. When she got the winged boot Princess carry, my heart just smiled so big.
I love how Laudna looks so scary but is super friendly, and Fearne seems so kind and gentle but is really chaotic and destructive.
I don't know if I have a favourite. You did such a great job on these! They all read exactly like the characters. And the impressions are really good too, especially considering the small amount of time that we've spent with these characters.
If Fearne and Laudna are just quickly thrown together outfits, then I'm excited to see how much further you could take the costumes. Would you go full on hooves with Fearne, or something that gives the feeling of hooves?

These are awesome, you’re so talented. As for what you were saying about the C1 references in this campaign; I think first they really wanted C2 to be distinct and separate from C1 (which they nailed in a big way) and I think coming off of The Legend of Vox Machina, they all have C1 on the brain, so naturally there are more references to those stories.
Hard choice which one you'd be best as. They all sort of mirror your persona in different ways. Fearne definitely seems the most fun to play around with. I can only imagine the kinds of songs that might come out of her.
I think you're absolutely right about Imogen and I think you'd do a wonderful Imogen, and it's definitely...uh... the easiest of the three? But Fearne... just seems to suit you. And hey if you go slightly crazy putting it all together every shoot, you can channel that chaos into character!

Honestly I really would love to watch campaign 2 but I only found out about critical role when episode 20ish came out of campaign 3 and I don’t have like 600 hours spare to watch a whole campaign. But luckily enough, they have campaign 2 recaps and campaign 1 has a whole animated show, I kinda lucked out there.
Must admit I never got the anti Keylith viewpoint as for me she was my favourite character from campaign one but oddly Bo did nothing for me :) Laura has been my favourite player but not sure which character will become this campaigns Jester for me as they all seem strong and interesting! Great job on these btw :)
Oddly enough I’m the other way around, I adore Beau but Keylith was never my favorite. I never understood the hate, but I simply never quite loved her. Now Beau is just so interesting to me, I loved it.

These are all fantastic, but you absolutely killed it as Fearne. If you do keep up with that one, it'll be interesting how you evolve it after watching ExU and as Campaign 3 goes on. All told though, I love the effort and detail you put into these looks and their personalities.
I think Fearne was my favourite of the three. The Imogen cosplay felt like a Pulp Hero to me, which was interesting, and you nailed the Laudna drip.

I've come to this series pretty blind - I entirely missed both the first and second campaigns (and honestly, I don't have the time to ever catch up, holy damn it's a lot of video to watch), but I watched the Exandria Unlimited campaign and have now started on the 3rd campaign as it rolls out. Fearne is a delight, Ashley Johnson's amazing, earnest delivery of hilariously timed lines were one of my favorite parts of the EU campaign, but I have to admit, Laudna is also phenomenal. I entirely agree that the combination of friendliness and creepiness makes for great character and I can't wait to see how this all goes forward!
I don't actively follow your content, but saw this pop up in my recommended (4 months later) and was like "eh, sure, why not" and... lmao, you were so right about Laudna. Noting the ear cuffs being important (I didn't see anyone else pointing those out!) and also, of course, the Whitestone connection (although that one's more of a given)
I literally JUST noticed, now, *literally over a whole month in to the campaign*, that they updated Fearne's design in the C3 character art. I'm so observant lmao. I'm going to go back and look at both of those character portraits again, and also see if I can spot anything for Orym and Dorian too!

Fantastic job by the way, I feel like you managed to capture the vibe of all 3 of them super well! I know this isn't your thing, but I'm genuinely curious to see how people approach cosplaying/representing Fresh Cut Grass.
Also, I'm super curious to see how Fearne evolves as the campaign goes on too! I feel like one of the key differences between her and Nott is that while Nott's chaos was partially due to trauma and being thrust into an extremely stressful situation, Fearne's is just a part of who she is-from what we've seen so far, she's apparently always been like this. There are some interesting things said about her in the Exandria Unlimited Wrap-up (that I won't be discussing here) but it really gave me an appreciation for how alien Fearne's sense of morality and being is as compared to normal people.

Idk why, but for some reason, I have decided to cosplay Imogen. I have never done cosplay before, and generally have a fear of dressing up, even for Halloween. I'm an AMAB enby who currently presents pretty masculine, but would like to not. Something about Imogen's character just really spoke to me, and I'm hoping that over the next year, I can do this. Wish me luck!

Jester was my favorite critical role character for the longest time, still is, and your cosplay helped with that. Now with a new cast of characters, I’m pretty sure fearne is now my favorite of C3, with jester still being my fav over all

Jokes aside, I think the C3 characters having connections to C1 is sort of the players pushing back (friendly of course) on how Matt tried to keep C2 and C1 separate. So I think they purposefully wrote C1 stuff into their backstories. A little to annoy Matt, yes. But this also means that they are genuinely curious about his world and what kind of impact C1s had on it. Sure they know that C1s were important in broad strokes. Unlike the C2 end, the C1 end or even the Chroma Arc were pretty well known by even the random citizen. But I think they wanted to hear it from Matt and he was not having it in C2. However, now, he has to fess up. (We know how Liam always put something on his sheet to annoy Mayy, Lucky, Keen Mind. I just think this time, few others joined in)
I love Laudna, she's got that creepy stuff going for her, yet she's drop dead hilarious. And I cannot get over the fact that Travis started the creepy whispering of message and I cannot get enough of it already

@@eospolaris9472 Each campaign is its own adventure and generally isolated from the other campaigns, so I would say it's fine to start with campaign 3 even if you didn't see the previous two. That being said, I highly encourage you do eventually watch the other two campaigns if you can find the time, since all the campaigns do take place in the same world and that tends to lend itself to callbacks, references, and possibly overlaps with previous campaigns!
Ginny, to echo what others have said, you absolutely 💯 percent KILLED it with these cosplays (even if they weren't full on cosplays, just make up tests), and it is really difficult to pick a favorite!!! I am leaning Imogen or Fearne, but I gotta say, I LOVE your quotes that you picked, they just captured each character so well!!!

There really are no super specific spoilers past episode 1 that I caught! If there were, it's discussion of theories that you could already hold from in the first episode
They really are VERY minor spoilers. Like "this character is from this location" or "this character had a dream," haha. There honestly isn't much that CAN be spoiled after this few episodes - the one MAJOR spoiler that I know of, I didn't talk about in this video.

I had the same experience as you! I got behind on C2, caught up rather than watch EXU, and went into C3 with 1 1/2 episodes watched! I also like to watch in order, so I’ve been watching EXU before continuing with C3!

Laudna is the first of Marisha's character that I can't tell the inspiration for: Key'leth was Aang from 'Avatar: The Last Airbender', and Beau was Korra from 'Avatar: The Legend of Korra'. I think that's one of the reasons that people approve of Laudna is because she's originally Marisha.
I get really strong vibes of "What if Belatrix Lestrange was a kind person?", i'm loving Laudna so far
Imogen is my favorite and the one I've been vibing with the most so far. I love her purple hair and eyes and her freckles, I love her powers, and she is so sweet and cute! I also love that her powers is like a love letter to mental issues like social anxiety, as I myself have some pretty bad social anxiety issues. It is so refreshing to see a character with those kinds of problems not only accurately and respectful display them, but for those around her to also understand and help her when needed. My anxiety can get so bad that I will literally become sick to my stomach and I will instinctively run away to solitude (usually in a bathroom or something) if I'm around too many people in too active of a situation like a big party or something. I've actually had to leave early from big events that I was supposed to help out with/spend time with my family at because I got so sick from being around too many people and take the rest of the day off just to recover from all the excitement. At first it was pretty annoying to everyone that I got so freaked out so easily in such big active crowds after such a short time, but as people became more away of mental issues and my family came to realize that they themselves have some anxieties that they were not aware of, I've had an easier time coping with my anxiety without too much drama and my friends and family have been far more willing to help me out when it starts to get to be too much for me. So, yeah. I am absolutely in love with Imogen and cannot wait to see how she grows as a character and what secrets we may learn about her.
