So true! I was always a chubby guy, even with 10+ years training Taekwondo. Now, with 1 year of keto + 8/16 intermittent fasting I'm starting to see the abs.
Exercises and proper amount of protein does help muscle growth, but you won't see any of that if you're fat.

Was a power lifter / athlete, Fell off the roof at my job 20' drop on to a concrete balcony I ruptured several spinal disk. I went from 4 hour work outs ,to being wheelchair bound.
    My appetite remained huge
because of my enormous muscle mass 375lbs with a 40 inch waist.
That was the beginning of the end high blood pressure eventually diabetes metabolic syndrome overload finally suffered a stroke I was devastated also paralyzed had to relearn everything, also took advantage of the new science turned it into an opportunity to learn everything about nutrition thanks to you dr. Ken Berry and several other doctors on TH-cam made sense to what I learned from my own body throughout years of dieting and nutrition.
The keto lifestyle save me I'm off of all my medicine blood pressure normal ,down from 420lbs lost150lbs lbs. I did a 14 days fast and my nerve damage had improved in those 14 days than in the last 6years physical therapy.. also one day my depression just disappeared it was just a feeling of calmness Eternal Bliss since that day I've always been happy from morning to night thank you for being Who You Are, Thank you for caring.

@@MarkGoodwin03 eggs are fine on a carnivore diet, some folks eliminate them due to allergy or gastrointestinal distress. Cheese is treated the same way, excepted unless you find issues with it and choose to no longer consume it.

I think calories still matter. If you overeat on keto, you will not loose any fat. Remember insulin is never zero, fats too have marginal affect on insulin. Body can only do one thing with extra energy, store it!

I've been doing IF and keto for almost a year and now I only eat between 7 and 9 every night I'm 43 and went from 300 pounds to 220 . I also gained some muscle by lifting weights for the last year. My wife gave up sugar and started eating the same as me 3 months ago and has lost 30 pounds. I get to stuff my face every night and be fully satisfied, I can't think of a better diet than that.

Im waiting another 3 monhs to have my blood works. Unfortunately all my doctors are drug pushers. I had 4 meds prescribed to me that gave me the worst side effects ever, and one of them landed ne at the ER. I'm working on my diet/ lifestyle, no sugar, no carbs. I trust Dr Berry because he’s not making money from recommending any particular product, but on this video I noticed the link to the meal plan is an affiliate link. I actually think that is fine as long as it’s disclosed. This is an excellent video and I can say that I’ve found doing 16/8 very easy to stick to with Keto coffee in the AM. Started out at 12/12 and worked my way up to 16/8, with a few days of 20/4 that just crept up on me. When I do eat, it’s high quality real food and plenty of it. Used to eat lots of protein bars and similar. Not so interested in them anymore but I’m always eager to eat my eggs, healthy smoothies, and protein/veg dinners! No six pack in evidence, and there won’t be for a long time, but I feel much better. Thanks Dr B!

I am on day 3 of the "keto" way of living... all I can say is WOWWW-!! I have been "hungry" all my life.. and I ATE-!! I will be 50 in dec. When I say I have tried Everything.. and failed.. well, yes.. I guess I can say all but surgery and wraps of some sort. I can not tell you how I would try to avoid fat, salt everything light or low fat.. it was So blaa.. I'd usually just give up and binge. I thought "butter in coffee" (grass fed) Instant heart attack.. I thought people were nutz-!! After a visit to the dr. Thyroid off, fatty liver was showing in the bloodwork.. he wanted to put me on meds, I asked for 1 month to try and change.. I ate lots of veg, raddishes, fish etc.. I messed up a few meals.. I went back month and a half later, he said the bloodwork was an "anomaly" all pretty much normal.. but I went right back to old patterns.. because I was HUNGRY-!!! Let me tell you, 3 days in.. eating butter, cheese, meat, eggs, avacados, salad dressing and lots of veg.. I haven't been hungry-!!!!! And today my first meal was at 5pm-!! Now I fod have my butter/coffee but, I napped, a bit of the lethargy and runny nose is present, but there are moments of Mental Clarity that I haven't felt in a Long time.. I'm rambling but I am SOOOO EXCITED TO HAVE FOUND YOUR CHANNEL-!!! I can't wait to see what transpires before my 50th birthday. I am astonished at the things I can eat.. who cares about carbs-!!! I've eaten enough to last a lifetime-! Now, I'm just gonna eat GOOD and not often... WHO KNEW MY BODY WAS SO BUSY DIGESTING FOOD CONSTANTLY IT COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE.... Now I do. I also suffer with psoriasis so in 8 weeks.... I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS-!! Thank you Doc-!! God Bless you for putting all this TRUTH out there for us that were So Lost-!! :)

K D Good for you! I suggest passing on bottled salad dressing though as almost all have unhealthy ingredients (like soy & corn oil). I've found that lime juice alone with a little salt is delicious and my salads only consist of that, spinach, cheese, & ground beef. Add smushed up avocado to that & it's even tastier. Since I've more fat to lose I'm waiting to eat avocados again. Until then it's only a moderate amount of fat daily for me. I never thought I'd be able to eat a salad without bottled dressing & stand it let alone love it. Lastly, I was at Bertucci's (only ordered the meatballs) & had a bite of someone's salad as I'd never tried balsamic dressing before & it was delicious. I have to look into what makes it up though. Anyway, keep up the great work!

KD, I'm 56, started this way of living on Feb 8th of this year 2018 and I'm down 32 pounds so far, my stomach is pretty much flat but still has an inch or so layer of fat that needs to go away. I was stuffing myself into 36 pants that were so tight I needed to go up a size and that's what started this. I'm now wearing 34 pants and they are getting baggy 32 pants are in my near future. Another 10 pounds and I'll be in those. I agree with Lori below, make your own dressings, ketchup, mayo etc. They are better anyway. I make a really good Caesar dressing, it lasts a week in the fridge. I love olive oil and vinegar in my salads along with salt and pepper which is my go to dressing. Stick with it, you will hit a plateau pretty quickly once the water wate drops but just expect it and keep doing what you're doing. Weigh yourself less often when it happens.

      1 (2-ounce) can oil-packed anchovy fillets, drained
      2 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped
      3 large egg yolks
      1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
      2 tablespoons lemon juice
      1/2 cup Olive oil
2 tablespoons finely grated Parmesan cheese
      Freshly ground black pepper
Make an anchovy-garlic paste: Mince the anchovies and garlic together until the mixture is mostly smooth and the garlic is minced, about 3 minutes; set aside.
Whisk the egg yolks: Whisk the egg yolks together in a medium bowl until smooth.
Add the mustard: Whisk in the mustard until just combined.
Add the anchovy-garlic paste: Whisk in the anchovy-garlic mixture.
Whisk in the lemon juice: While whisking, pour in the lemon juice, then whisk until smooth.
Whisk in the olive oil: While whisking, stream in the olive oil to create a thick emulsion. Once all of the olive oil is added, whisk for another minute to thicken.
Season and serve: Whisk in the Parmesan cheese. Taste and season with black pepper as needed. Serve immediately.

Truth! I was formerly a 240 lbs powerlifter with a very strong core. However, my abdominal muscles were not visible due to body fat. I’m now 54 and 200 lbs with a descent six-pack. Having a six-pack was not my goal as I had one most of my younger life (boxer 9 years), but the result of adopting a KETO eating lifestyle along with intermittent fasting and adding HIIT training. It's very disappointing to realize that after six months of progress, I'm still in the danger zone for heart disease, premature death, etc. But this video has motivated me to go back to intermittent fasting and really get back to the principles that helped me so much when I first started this journey. Your TH-cam videos are always a great encouragement.

Well, thanks to you and a few others, I have decided to start the Keto Diet. I just turned 56, have type II, weigh 315lbs have a few minor arthritis issues, and light high bleed pressure. I have lost 40lbs in the last 10 months. But I want to get off the medicine and get back to doing the things I like to do. As strange as it my sound, I am fairly active but I have many things I used to do that I want to do again. Today is the first day of the rest of my Life. Again, Thanks

I've been strict Keto, more or less, since June, and strict hard core super freak show carnivore since Sept 1. I thought I was suffering from a lot of wishful thinking when I got out of the shower last week and it looked like my " 6 pack" was starting to show. This video is solid gold. I always thought it was hundreds of sit ups.

Dr. Berry - Thank you for an excellent, supportive video. People need support to eating in a way that their bodies are supported - AND they need to learn patience. Most people have been advertised to expect immediate results - just as they were basically taught to eat a carb/chemical/gluten/sugar diet from after WW2 on - and to eat multiple times daily as healthy - as well as to snack on the billion dallar a year profit snack industry - - - From WW2 on - Pharma and Big food planned all of this - My fatehr was high up military that helped to plot this horror that we have now - They knew what they were doing and felt the North American public was too stupid to figure it out.
It is doctors like you - who are dedicated to bringing out the truth and to supporting the public through education that will help to turn this tide of deliberate misinformation. I have seen many people over the last few years discover Keto - then Intermittent fasting - - for weight loss - then see symptoms of major health condirtions start to reverse - so that with their doctors they have to start to limit and then even, go off medications as they don't need them anymore. It is where many are then starting to wake up - and they need the information that you and other doctors are providing.
For years in the seventies and eighties I ate one meal a day - low carb - and even though I was at a healthy body weight - I had my doctor friends and colleagues freaking out - worrying that I was eating wrong and insisting I eat whole grains and 3 meals a day - - It literally broke my health as I had underlying undiagnosed Celiac, Dermatitis Herpetiformis - - and not being able to take any antibiotics from birth on - but being born early - I had COPD and after 20 years of having it under control after pediatricians and doctors giving me till age 35 to have emphasemia, etc - - I went from controlled, good health and no bronical attacks eight times a year and no pneumonia - to getting very ill for years - - Going off grains and eating pastured eggs, etc. turned it all around in 2005 - - I don't blame the doctors BUT it shows how much many don't know and thus their "guidelines" and pressure - misunderstandings and lack of education can lead to serious health challenges.
So - THANK YOU for helping so many - - You are a blessing!

This has helped me reduce my HR it is usually 110s now off diet soda and doing intermittent fasting and Keto has really increased my energy level. I can hardly sleep some nights. I feel like a “crack baby”. I want to gradually increase my exercise. To help burn off some of this crazy energy I have. Love you! Again thank you.

Excellent video dispelling all the urban myths. Just a month ago a friend told me calories in calories out and I had to disagree with him - he was incredulous that I would even question this old axiom. I do think muscle building is helpful because muscle does burn calories all day long, but think you're correct in not over-crediting it's contribution to fat loss.

Hey Dr. Berry, First and foremost, I want to tell you; GOD Bless you for what you're doing through your TH-cam channel. I was inspired to try the KETOGENIC DIET after watching one of your videos on how to begin Keto and also your video on Cheap Keto my wife and I started to adapt all of what you have been saying in your vids, in tandem with he advice Thomas Delauer puts out on his channel.
That being said, I've lost 40 pounds since the 1st of January, 2018. And my wife has lost 20 pounds within the same timeframe. Also, in that time I've managed to get my Type 2 Diabetes completely under control to the point that soon, I may not need to use my Metformin anymore. However, during the past two months, we have plateaued HARD! Not sure how to get it going again. My wife and I desperately want to lose this weight. We have not changed the way we've been eating since we first began Keto. We're not sure what we're doing wrong. We've even been intermittent fasting for as long as we've been on Keto.
Now we haven't been working out. But, we didn't work to begin with and we're able to produce the results that we have thus far. The reason I haven't been able to workout is because I've had Sleep Apnea for 10 years and have slept with a C-PAP machine every night since I became aware of it. Up until 2 years ago I would wake up in the morning, revitalized and ready to take on the world. But, for the past 2 years, I've been waking up exhausted. So, I have no energy to workout when I get home from work. Now I have been given a new C-PAP machine, and still I'm waking up in the morning feeling exhausted, like I haven't slept. Please HELP!
Ken, you've been a Blessing to me and my family! Please keep your vids coming. GOD Bless you and yours.

I might have a "six-pack" in the year 3000. lol But at least I'm heading in the right direction. And my doctor has already had to reduce my diabetes meds and blood pressure meds. So there are other benefits beyond the six pack for me. :-)

Thanks for this video I have decided to adopt a high-fat relatively high protein low carb diet. I have already lost approximately 30 lb eating one meal a day intermittent fasting for approximately 22 hours a day. I was able to lose this weight even though I have been eating a lot of carbohydrates. I'm going to lower my carbohydrate intake make sure my fat and protein are high enough I'll emphasize those as opposed to carbs. Thank you for another great video!

Perhaps they might wish to explore that route after learning more about what it is and what it can do for one's health. Or maybe they wish to eat more meals without carbs, but not go in full on yet. A move in the right direction is good and knowing what to eat is a good start

I've been doing IF for a few months now, no more than 3 months. I haven't really changed anything else in my diet, except cutting back on sugar a little bit. I can say for certain that my bodyfat percentage has gone down a bit.
Now I did not expect to immediately go to very low BF% in three months of not that active IF... but even then, the results are noticeable. It's definitely something I'll keep doing and probably expand on in the future.

One thing that's hard to overcome today is that people use food as recreation. How often do your friends say 'come on, let's go eat something'? Happens all the time. Very easy to fall into that habit.
To make matters worse, everyone orders dessert! Thank goodness, my parents very rarely provided dessert after a meal when I was growing up, usually only on holidays.
I don't want to avoid socializing, but I'm careful to order a healthy meal, skip dessert, nice cup of black coffee does me fine!
Simple things like asking them to hold the home fries at the diner, or asking for a small portion of rice or whipped potatoes (or skip the carb altogether) instead of french fries with a meal can make a difference.
Thanks Doc, keep up the good work!
