My 19 yo daughter wants to do a three day fast with her father. I’m concerned because she’s always been little (below 5th percentile growth growing up). She exercises daily. I do not think this is safe for her. Her doctor says she tends to be slightly anemic. What do you as a community think? Also, I’m obsessed and she’s seen me struggle to have a healthy relationship with food.

I often break my fast with my homemade Guacamole Salad... Could that work for your 5th tip? You asked about avocado Dr Mindy? You could use my recipe 😉 one avocado, organic if possible, ....cut open, slice dice mash whatever way you want to use your avocado... then add seasonings , preferably fresh organic, but I use dried ground turmeric, ground ginger, Pink Sea salt, I like mine fine ground, fresh ground blk pepper, and dried onion, sometimes a little smoked paprika.... fresh squeezed lemon juice & sprinkle with hemp seeds. I usually have it on a bed of mixed organic greens... spinach, arugula, red lettuce etc... sometimes I will steam kale or use veg broth & saute it & have it as part of my Guacamole Salad 🥗 For extra fat, if wanted/needed, top salad with Tahini or vegan cheese etc...the nutritional options are Endless & perfect for my mostly OMAD, mostly plant based & mostly warm foods during winter months like soups , curries & stews are my go to meals but I ALWAYS make sure I get in my GBOMBS Greens, beans, onions, mushrooms, berries/seeds & Seeds/nuts.... My Guacamole Salad is basically a low protein, mod to high fat, high fiber, under 50 net grams unless the fiber content is way up,( like mid 70s to 💯 grams of fiber up lol) I use a huge plate or bowl, depending on my mood.

Maybe the reason u ve been saying NO to your husband (and chikdren) is because you have a hard time saying NO to your self (i.e. say to yrself NO about saying NO to your husband). Unless u hv an abusive husband u should never say NO to him.read your bible.

I started pushing back breakfast an hour to 0700 then to 0800 etc until I skipped breakfast and had lunch around 1300 and had dinner at 1900 or before, being a truck driver you can imagine my belly size, it was 38/40 inches. Bigger than my inside leg. I did my 1st 3 day fast and day 1 was the worst and I took McVitie's Digestive Biscuits with me incase it was too much, So glad to say I am still looking at them...I have changed my thought process on how my body works and do drink coffee a lot during my fasts, with 1/4 of a reaspoon of sugar in 1 litre of hot water in my flask a day. I watched Dr.Mindy and how she advised to change it up on fastings, so I do a 3 OMAD and then 2 days eat moderately and then do a 3 day fast, 8 days so the body gets confused. Animal protein is down to almost nil, veg consumption is high cooked in Olive Oil. Waist still shrinking and almost back to my teenage dimensions and I am 57 years old and I can't remember feeling this sharp mentally and energetic. Hardest times were when breakfast was being pushed back and day 1 of my 1st 3 day fast. Breakfast was 2 eggs 4 bacon in 2 buns with ketchup wrapped up in tin foil to keep warm plus stopping at Greggs for more and then Fish n Chips at night...All this energy was never used so I just got fatter...Move breakfast back, hour by hour and soon you will not notice, then get on to a 24 hour fast, you can do it, and after a few 24 hour fasts try a 2 or 3 day. Believe and you can do it, the road is long but you can travel down it and you will succeed, I took McVitie with me and looked at them many times, more scared my energy would drop and my truck would become out of control and people would get hurt, but I was at NO POINT short of energy or alertness and the biscuits are in my cupboard still...Good people try this route for your healthier mind , body and soul..Good Luck to all here...

    • @DrMindyPelz
      @DrMindyPelz  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@missbabycakes69 - Fat adapted means you can eat food and your blood sugar will go up and then come right back down to normal range. When you are fat adapted you make ketones and feel good while fasting.

@@Freesoul54 You sound like me. I tried this a year or two ago and it didn't work and I threw in the towel. I was doing it all wrong. I used to stuff my face while I was sitting at the computer. I ate all my meals in the living room and snacks. About 2 months ago I decided to eat all my meals at the kitchen table and I turned off the TV. Within a few days it became an automatic habit and I was eating WAY less, I pretty much quit snacking.
Then I started the BBB&E challenge on June 16, 2022 and here's my journal entry:
      CARNIVORE DIARY JUNE 16, 2022 - JUNE 23, 2022 WEEK 1
      6/16/2022 THURSDAY:
      2 PM: ACV drink
3 PM: 3 scrambled eggs, 5 pieces of bacon
7 PM: 8 oz. hamburger patty cooked in bacon grease and butter, 1 piece of bacon, 2 scrambled eggs
      Today (6/17/2022), FRIDAY I ate:
2 PM: 4 scrambled eggs, and 5 pieces of bacon
4 PM: 8 oz. hamburger cooked in bacon grease and butter
      7 PM: 2 boiled eggs
1:14 AM (SATURDAY) I’m hungry. I don't think I ate enough. I'm unsure if I should eat something or just go to bed. I feel good in the fact that I don't feel bloated. I'm not STARVING, but I am a bit hungry. I might drink some hot water with ACV, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Tomorrow I plan to eat more at each meal. I got hungry about 2 hours after I ate the first two meals (2 and 4 PM) and then the boiled eggs seemed to keep me fuller longer. That's all I know. Going to bed.
      6/18/2022, SATURDAY
3:30 PM: 1 lb. beef patty cooked in bacon grease and butter, 3 pieces of bacon
7:30 PM: 1 lb. beef patty cooked in bacon grease and butter, 2 boiled eggs, 2 pcs. of bacon
I didn’t get hungry until right around 3 PM. After I ate my first meal, I was full and didn’t get hungry until 7 PM. I stayed fuller longer today. I used Himalayan salt and my R. Calf is no longer cramping.
      6/19/2022, SUNDAY
2:15 PM: 2 boiled eggs - still hungry, waiting for meat to thaw
3:30 PM: 1 lb. beef patty cooked in bacon grease and butter
8:30 PM: Ribeye steak cooked in bacon grease and butter
      6/20/2022, MONDAY
10:38 AM: I’m hungry (I didn’t eat, just made a note of it.). Had some diarrhea.
2:30 PM: 1 lb. beef patty cooked in bacon grease and butter; 2 eggs OE fried in bacon grease
8:OO PM: Ribeye sautéed in bacon grease and butter
This is the first time I’ve fried eggs and not had toast. I almost didn’t do it because I just couldn’t imagine eating them like that. I ate them with a spoon, and what a nice surprise! They were good and I think I definitely prefer the OE over scrambled and hard boiled. I can see why people put this on the patty’s, it would make them more “juicy”. I might do it that way next time. I’m still hungry (3:05 PM). I don’t know if I should eat or wait. How could I be hungry after all of that? Drinking more water. I think I need to eat more at each meal.
I have minor cramping in my right calf, and I heard on a YT video today that if it persist in one leg, that could mean some kind of blockage. After I start taking my KETO CHOW electrolytes, if it persists, I might need to get it checked.
1:15 AM (TUESDAY) I am still full from eating the ribeye. I think that I need more fat in my meals.
      6/21/2022, TUESDAY
3:30 PM: 8 oz. beef patty sautéed in butter with a 3 pcs. of bacon, 3 eggs OE
7:30 PM Still full. I was fine for the whole day. I watched a video that said that post-menopausal women should fast 20 hours to get the hormones working right and that was the ideal INTERMMITENT amount of time to lose weight if you’ve been stuck.
      6/22/2022, WEDNESDAY
4 PM: 8 oz. patty sautéed in butter with 3 pcs. bacon, 4 OE eggs, ½ c. of decaf
11:30 PM: pinch of salt under my tongue for hunger
3 dropperfuls of KETOCHOW in my water.
12:30 AM (THURSDAY) I’m not hungry. My right calf still feels “tight”. My face seems to have thinned out a bit. I don’t feel “bloated”. I haven’t weighed myself because I thought I would get too depressed. I’m just going by how my clothes feel. I think I’ll take pictures to keep track of my progress. I feel good, I don’t crave food. I feel in control. Adding eggs to the beef patty makes it better. I get tired of chewing, but I eat a lot to keep me full for the intermittent fasting. I was only trying to fast 20 hours, but by the time I got hungry, it had been 24 hours. I think I might soon try to do a 36 hour fast. I think that fasting is the key to getting me out of insulin resistance.
FITCOACH: First day I did an “easy” workout, and I was out of breath and worn out.
      Carnivore Journal: June 23, 2022 to June 29, 2022 Week 2
      6/23/2022 THURSDAY
      8:20 PM: 4 scrambled eggs
I fasted more than 24 hours, I was so caught up in what I was doing today, that I didn’t realize how late it was. I did begin to feel nauseated. And that’s when I ate. My jaw started hurting today and I went to the ER because that can be a warning sign of a heart attack. I’m fine. Embarrassed and fine. I had other symptoms that I attributed to the change of diet and fasting, but when I read that jaw pain could be a warning sign, I got a little worried. They did a blood test and I was shocked that they said I had good stats. She said I don't show any insulin resistance. My potassium was a couple of points too low.
      6/24/2022 FRIDAY
4:30 PM: Chuck eye sautéed in butter, 4 scrambled eggs
I really wasn’t hungry, but I had pulled the beef out earlier so it could sit, thinking I’d be hungry, and it was beginning to turn colors, so I thought I’d better eat it. I’m not hungry and I haven’t been thinking about food. This is shocking to me.
      6/25/2022 SATURDAY
4:30 PM: Chuck eye sautéed in butter, 4 scrambled eggs
I had some hunger pains in the morning, but I just kept thinking about what I was trying to achieve, and I refrained from eating. They went away after about 20 minutes. And then I was completely fine. I just had to “ride the wave”.
1:26 AM (Saturday morning), I’ve been working on the computer and I’m having hunger pains. I’m thinking I’m not getting enough fat. I’m fine, I know when this happens that it means good stuff is happening.
      I hope this helps.

TMI Warning: Can I just yell at the top of this mountain that my hemorrhoids are gone! After I gave birth to my son, for years ago, I developed hemorrhoids that never went away. They weren’t painful but they definitely made me self-conscious. About a month into fasting I noticed that they were greatly reducing in size and now they’re practically gone. Whaaaat!? Winning. Oh yeah, and I feel happy like all the time now so yay for regulated brain chemistry.

Good for you!! Luckily I never had them but I can imagine it being a very annoying impractical thing to have.
I hope fasting can help with joint health, I want to keep running long distance but my feet are giving me grief with inflammation, and I already know how my food choices impact that so to give my whole system a rest to do a deep cleaning of the tissues and cells sounds promising, although I have not yet mastered the art of slow and sensible refeeding.

I just finished my 1st 3 day water fast, and it was an experience that I had to document. I noticed so many "little" things happening the closer I got to the 3rd day such as the persistent soreness in my shoulder really easing up, the pain in other parts of my body also seemed to fade away. It's possible that the pain could have been related to inflammation but I have lifted heavy weights and ran for miles and injured myself that way. Also noticed the color of body fluids change even though I was only drinking bottled water. On the 3rd day walking through the hallway at work, after a bad day, a sense of joy overtook me. Really. Out of nowhere I began to smile and happy thoughts filled my mind.
Once I broke my fast with chicken soup broth, within 30 minutes or so I felt a strange tingling sensation in my head. I wrote everything down for future reference! I do have amalagm fillings still in my mouth so I didn't experience amazing memory rejuvenation, not sure why though 🤔 But I will continue to practice the forms of fasting I've learned about here 4 the rest of my life. Thank u Dr. Mindy u rock!

      *Steamed Broccoli
Easy Peasy Habit to Start, especially adapting these steps as “extending” my fast, before eating a “meal.” (I am a OMADr.)

After having binged on a whole cheesecake after my first 72 hour fast I did not dare fasting again. (Longer than 13 to 17 hours)
Then I heard about how the stem cells that are generated after a longer fast can turn into anything and will turn into fat cells if you wolf down a lot of junk after a fast. I hope that scared me enough. I've got middle age spread enough to generate some much needed estrogen from the belly fat 😄
Next time I'm going to try not water only fasting but having elektrolyte water, mct oil and coffee, and maybe broth if that doesn't break the fast (I keep forgetting what does and what doesn't)
To me the hardest part of fasting is breaking it and the next few days.

Broke my fast with veg soup, then fruits. Then I ate steamed veg, fish curry, 2 boiled eggs, wild black rice. My dessert was chia seed with black beans and coconut pudding.
Then i drank bone both. I ate in 3hrs window after this long last.
I now practise eating OMAD in 1-2hrs window. I have done for 3 wks so far.
I used to overeat so badly on Keto for 3 months so I stop this diet. For myself now I find eating OMAD and IF works for me. I eat good whole food with a bit of everything including good carbs. This stops me overeating. I feel satisfied.

Just *thinking* about great, favorite food can bring a dopamine rush. Its called drooling lol (when you hear lasagna is on the menu tonight and you literally salivate at the thought of later eating it)
Fasting makes us satiated with far less-hyperpalatable food. Processed foods, restaurant foods all are added to so they are extremely stimulating to our brain thru our tastebuds. We are just like a street druggie trying to get that first rush high again, constantly looking for MORE stimulation, more crap. The crap’s even not rly good enough anymore. It barely takes the edge off. We Are Addicts!
We need total abstinence. We cant go to a restaurant or party without good food choices anymore than a recovering drunk can go to a bar that first yr or two or 5! To ask that of us is as just cruel and insensitive and MANIPULATIVE of friends and family as it is to ask of any addict.
When we can get it out of our system and heal the brain (dopamine sites) then we can an eat a raspberry and think WOW, how tasty is this! Or a fresh green salad with fatty dressing. Or a steak with mushrooms and onions sautéed in butter that keeps us till the next day, 24hrs later!
We unblock those sites by fasting and not hitting those sites AT ALL for a period of time in an EF. Every time we do it, we unblock them a little more, as long as we dont crap out inbtwn EFs (by eating the junk again; stay keto, ppl!). Daily IFs also, strengthen our fasting muscles for EFs. Keep to a daily eating window. NO SNACKING. Be good to yourself and love YOURSELF first while you heal so you can love others as soon as youre able. No one wants a martyr; rly, rly, rly.

Yes, your intuition is spot on! I doubt gut healing will suffer from such a small amount of salt (if at all). I get headaches or experience dizziness without it. Binging after fasting is not encouraged. While it slow down the weight loss but it doesn’t stop the weight loss. Its slower but still can work. I fast on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Eat whatever I want and however much I want for the rest of the week. Slow weight loss like 0.5 kg a week and get 2 kg (4.5lbs) a month. For me, it better this way especially if it is to be a lifestyle. Nothing too drastic or I would not last. It would take me 2 years at least to get to my ideal weight but at least it’s possible.

Hi Ma'am. Thanks so much for sharing this. I scanned the comments and noticed that no one asked my questions, so I apologise if they seem stupid. 1) You don't define what you mean by rebounding after a fast. What exactly does that mean? and... 2) You keep stressing about being fat adapted. What is the process for getting fat adapted?
Thank you for all your help.

    • @maddisonbythesea3015
      @maddisonbythesea3015 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      1. Rebounding would be to eat a lot of food immediately after fasting. Basically overdoing it and negating the fast.
      2. To become fat adapted you need to cut out most carbs. Eat a ketogenic diet under 20g of carbs daily. When your body goes into ketosis it will learn to burn fat for energy in the absence of glycogen. When your body becomes efficient at burning fat for fuel you're considered fat adapted. This can take 2-12 weeks depending on the person. It took me 9-10 weeks.

I found your channel yesterday through the Primal Kitchen interview. I'm almost on week 4 of fasting, so I was super excited to come across your channel yesterday because it really got me even more excited about fasting!
I'm glad I found this video today. I've been doing OMAD. And I'm doing great with it. However... when it's time to eat I've been over eating. I'm doing keto. I'll eat a huge arugula leafy green salad with fermented olives and olive oil with ACV, a protein with sautéed veggies and avocado, a little handful of berries, 1/2 cup of pecans and a TBS (or more of peanut butter).
I'm learning though by listening to my body. And last night all that food was too much! And I eat it all together because I want to sit down with my husband and kids and have dinner as a family.
So tonight I'll start with some bone broth and see how that feels and I'll break it all up in your process!
Thank you for all of your amazing videos! I watched several while I exercised yesterday. I loved learning about eating around your cycle. I plan on buying your book, Fast Like a Girl, so I can learn even more! ❤

I did my first 24 hr fast this past weekend and the break-fast I had was waaaaaay too overwhelming! After experiencing the discomfort of too much too "fast"... sorry couldn't resist.... I've made a plan to ease back into my standard 16:8 IF with a nice light veggie stir-fry with an egg and a tbsp of almond flour to start, then have a smaller version of my normal lunch/dinner when that time comes 'round. I can't wait to try it this coming weekend!

4 Step fast break w/my adaptations

    2. Probiotic rich foods (yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi) avocado mentioned also-simple guac w/whey to ferment it?
    3. Eggs & Roasted veggies w/animal fat and vinegar, s&p (more cooked greens)
    4. Meat

Binging after a long fast is dangerous. A family member of mine died after eating fish and rice after a 40 day water fast. Best way to break a fast is broth or fruit.

As always, thank you for another great video.
One question: Can you please give us a few sample days of food while eating ketobiotic? I'm having a lot of trouble staying around 20 grams of protein while limiting carbohydrates to 50 net. I've been varying fasts, but ketobiotic eating as a lifestyle has been tough. When I try to add fats and veggies, I'm finding carbs and/or proteins in them that take my macros out of wack... I can come up with one small meal, but trying to get two small meals after a 17 hour fast is not easy to keep those macros in order. Thank you!

I just posted what I eat when I break my fast if you want to scroll up and read it. You can vary the salad in so many way by combining different cultures into your equation.... Indian curries can easily meet those macros, as can Mexican ( think fajitas with a nutrient dense, macro compliant variety of veggies like squash, colored peppers, onions, mushrooms etc, Guacamole, salsa & a salad of lettuce and tomatoes and sour cream) , Italian (Think Minestrone Soup & a healthy salad) Good Luck on your Health Journey ❤️ Stay BLESSED

I have found that too. I think about how I’d like to grab a plum. I don’t but I’m thinking of it & often it’s not hunger really Ute just I don’t know boredom or habit I started 3 weeks ago & now I have lost 16 pounds. I have tried keto for 3 years at age 58 & I would lose 5 pounds & put it back on I never lost more then 7 pounds but it always came back years ago it did work for me but my hormones must be off now & fasting is the ticket. This is really working & I find it pretty easy.

    Great content,
    much appreciated.
    I did a 16/8 IF for over a year w/ 4 gym workouts & 4 walk / wk
Just did a 14 day water only fast, lost 10.2kg, still did the same gym/walks, wasn’t hungry or tired. Then did 1 week of Bone Broth w/ vegetable soup for my OMAD. Kept all the weight off ( no weight gained 🎉) still did gym/walks.
Week 4 ( starting this wkd) I’ll add probiotics
(Kimchi, pickles, bit of ACV is ok right ?)
& then will add vegetables , then week 5 eggs & meat again all in a OMAD style.
    Happy summer everyone

Wow...thank you Dr. Last day i did 3 day water fast. I could have gone more days...but i was worried of constipation. I didn't poop for 3 days. So i decided to break the fast with broth and sauerkraut. And after an hour i go to toilet. No constipation. What i get the benefit is amazing....mental clarity.....more energy(go every day to gym)....and i notice improvement in my face skin. It is getting brighter.

Fasting predates the bible. Other much older cultures have had fasting for long periods as part of their religions. :)

The only reason to fast other than to loose weight is to draw closer to God. Nothing predates God. So yes fasting has been promoted since the beginning of time.

Just keep going! I had that many times too, but when your body turns to fat burning properly you will feel amaizing by the morning of the 3rd day and suddenly will have enormous energy!! You are exercising those fasting muscles just think at 2 days you are more than half way up the mountain and day 3 you will be on the top with full of energy and can sky down that hill as a prize:) it's hard to imagine but it does happen. And after couple of months (I did longer fasts once a month only) I started to feel good by the second day already, so just keep doing it and your body will adapt! (ps: for women start the longer fast when your period arrives, never on the last week just before! Listen to Mindy I've tested it out and it's pleasure vs. Torture feeling)

The most helpful and most awesome video ever on fasting and how to break it with a four step process. Thank You, Dr. Mindy l! 😘🙃😍👍❤️.
I just broke a 92-hour fast last night because my blood sugar was at 53. My Ketones were at 5.8 (fairly okay). But I broke it before I saw this video.
And, of course I rebounded. My blood sugar is up to 110😆. And my ketones are non-existing. I broke it with Cocoyo then a handful of berries, then sauerkraut with kale, bone broth wakamie noodles. I started rebounding after mid-night and couldn’t sleep. So today I figured I’d better go back into fasting again and break it with Dr. Mindy’s 4-step process. Thank You so much Dr. Mindy for being such a great health teacher! You’re all I needed to steer my self around the corner of aging well! What a gift you are to Life, Love, & Light; Health, Wholeness, and Happiness! 😘
