It wasn't convenient. He said he knew she had something planned when he was pinned down by the laser, knowing that Star knew the laser wasn't enough to kill him so she had something bigger planned which was the nukes. AFO/Shigaraki the planned a counter attack its as simple as that, if you pay attention you'd know that.
