- This video is about axe handle and tool handle care using pine tar and linseed oil. I also cut and split some wood and then start a warm cozy fire in the wood stove.

Thanks. Informative...just now going back and preserving some hand tools from my childhood....sledges, mattocks, picks, shovels, hammers...all of them have their stories...all the hands that used them. Right on. Thanks.
Right on Mike! 👍🏼 I love tools with a history! 😃
Thanks for the tip on using the pine tar mix....I have a wood stove in my work shop so I take care of my axe and hatchets with wood handles ..I always remove the shellac from the factory and oil the wood
Right On! 👍 I really like this handle treatment. It gets better and better over the years as I keep adding coats. A nice grip in the hands. 🙌
Beautiful Jon, and very relaxing.
Henry Milander Thanks Henry! I’m glad you liked it 👍🏼🌟
Great video sir and very good timing on my part to find this with some axes to work on
Great stuff Jon!!!!!!!
Thanks John! I really like the pine tar combo! Thanks for your support! 👍🏼💫💥
Liked and subscribed. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Scott! I really like the Pine Tar / Linseed oil! The feel it gives on the axe handles is great.
Another solution that my great grandfather always did and he was born in early 1920s in just to use some simple Huberd's Shoe Oil which contains pine tar and beeswax. So if you want to save money just buy the Huberd's Shoe Oil and put on a few coats 1 coat every other day for a week and then once every month and then once a year. It will come out looking exactly the same.
Excelente trabajo.
Right on Fernando! Thanks for watching man! 💥👏👍🏼
Greetings from Essex County, UK!
I've just found an old Brades 353 Criterion 6Lbs axe, with an old 34-inch handle, sanded it down all the way to 1500 grit.
I've used a 50/50 mix of Stockholm tar and turpentine to coat the handle.
How long did it take yours to dry enough to use, and is one coat enough?
In advance, many thanks for your time.
Best regards,
Manny
Im doing Tung oil and pine tar.
Great video. Looks great.
How long did you wait before you wiped the excess off? I usually wait 30 minutes, what do you recommend?
Where do you get a custom wood punch like that?
Where do you get the pine tar? I've never noticed it at any of the stores I shop at. Thanks for any help. Maul looked beautiful!
Right on Paul! 🙌 Thanks. Here is a link to Amazon for the pine tar. amzn.to/3qReFQI
It’s used on horse’s hooves. Amazon or any farm store.
Tack shops carry it. It is used on horse hoofs
How long does it take to dry?
Right on George! 👍✨ Usually overnight. Nice to put it out in the sun or next to the wood stove. 👏
