    Thank you, Blender. I started out as a lowly video editor who only started blender when I got the curious idea of making my company's logo in 3d to import into a short video. After that success, I kept going. Now I'm making a 3d Christmas video with toy cars chasing each other in a living room (one of them I painstakingly modelled as our company car). My boss has been excitedly freaking out over what I've been learning by myself, and that makes me feel so accomplished :) thank you for this amazing update and your continued efforts to inspire people like me!

      I'm sure more will be coming on that front since their plans for re-working animation in 2020 were put off due to covid, and according to the road map for 3.0, this new update is just the beginning:
      Character rigging is also in need of a serious upgrade. The ‘animation 2020’ project was postponed due to circumstances, but in ‘22 it should come back on the agenda.
      Keywords are: node based, layering, debugging tools, speed, crowds, mocap support, automated systems for muscles and physics.
      Blender Institute will lead this project by involving industry veterans for design and implementation. The new rigging system is expected to use similar concepts for bones or poses, but it is not expected to be feature compatible. For that reason we expect old rigs and new rigs to co-exist for a while.

    Great update. I was tasked with evaluating blender 2.8 to potentially replace C4D at my studio a few months ago. While it has tons of features that would make life a million times easier, I found the lack of a take system to be hard to live with. The main issue I had was with large scenes though, while C4D can handle very heavy scenes that are gigabytes in size with (relative) ease, blender doesn't seem to like that at all. Anything above 500mb would be slow and cause crashes upon loading and saving. If there's any area I could suggest for further improvement, it would be the overall handling of larger scenes. Again though, great job!

    As a 20 year Maya vet in the sports graphics industry, I’m constantly blown away with how quickly the Devs update Blender with small, impactful updates and not hugely bloated “technological” roll-outs. The Swiss Army knives of 3D software for sure. Might not replace Houdini (yet), but definitely a solid Cinema4d competitor. And my new flavor of the month! I love it.

Depending on style you're going for and how you approach it) Being able to organize parts in 3d as well will be a lifesaver

    "There are about 100 new nodes" well I thought I wanted to learn geometry nodes now I'll rethink that

    • @myztazynizta
      @myztazynizta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of them are nodes from the material system that were sorely missed in the geometry system.

    • @genesis2303
      @genesis2303 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You wait until it will be 600 you think then will be easier? For me it's way easier to learn till there aren't too much of them. Take into account that some nodes are just categories which make the same with slightly difference, like textures there you go 8 nodes which you already know, mesh primitives another several which you know, curve primitives - another few and so on. It's not number you have to worry about its math operations and tackling points/faces, conversions, passing attributes back to instances after realizing them etc you need to worry about. When you know those things, it's getting easier, like with every node system out there.

      Anyway, it's a really cool update (as always, may I say).

    Blender still seems to difficult to use from an outsider looking in, seems very unintuitive.
    But it seems like making the process easier is the priority for the devs. That sculpting feature i saw was the best thing ever for 3d creators i imagine, makes things very easy to do and understand.
    Still seems like you would need years of full time education to use this however. Hard to even know where you start, and id imagine even animations that are seconds long would take months to finish.

      I think all 3D software are difficult if you are an outsider - at least to my own personal experience (Maya, 3Ds Max, Blender - these are all difficult at first)

    I have deliberately abstained from taking any deeper look into the Blender 3.0 Alpha and Beta versions, as I was very happy with the way 2.93 ran, and I didn't want to go through all the changes that happened during the development process.
    But this... and the peeks I took at my newly downloaded 3.0... and the few tests I ran in this limited time...
    ... I'M IN LOVE! WILL YOU MARRY ME?

    I have used Maya in the past and thought to try out Blender. After some minutes I was pretty surprised, how bad the workflow in Blender is. The most important access to functions like Edit-Mode, Object-Mode and so on, cannot be accessed throught right-mouse-button click. Even if I am in Edit-Mode, there is no access to different sub-categories like edge, vertex and polygon through right-mouse-button click. Good workflow is to have less mouse-movement and there you have to intelligently structure the software.
    There is not even different pop-up throught right-mouse-button with shift, control. And also not, if you click on object and outside of the object. The buttons are available and not used, so wasting it.
    Even Edge-Loop is not availabe, if i click the right-mouse-button, if i am in edge-edit-mode.
    This are the most fundamental and important things. I think, i will go back to Maya ... thats absolutely strange, how this fundamental stuff is not optimized in Blender. And this are the things, with I already recognize under 1 hour working with Blender. I think I stop here, cause there would come many more unoptimized stuff. This are easy things, which just need a good conecptional mind to recognize it.

    As a game artist I am unfortunately almost as limited with 2.9 & 3.0 as with 2.79, so I would prefer fixing & improving the core features and performance instead of keeping adding new niché features. For example the UV Editor - absolutely core feature of any 3D tool, is still almost identical to historical 2.79. It is also still nearly impossible to edit any larger meshes, weight / vertex paint (also very basic feature) is even slower than in 2.79, and I could continue ...
    Also a lot of new features are not polished enough to make it into final release in my opinion - like Geometry Nodes which can't handle UV maps and other mesh data (v. groups, vcols, ...).
    I love using Blender, don't get me wrong, but I am not a fan of how the development is currently prioritized.

    • @Pelitaiteilija
      @Pelitaiteilija 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      3.0 did improve performance quite a bit though, including editing of large meshes. Rigging, animation, rendering and geometry nodes also aren't niche features, and those are what got most of the attention.
      I do agree with your other points like UV tools, but some of your examples were actually covered by 3.0.

    • @mcan-piano4718
      @mcan-piano4718 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      U might not agree with me, but I also have somethings that bother me. What bugs me most is the unnecessary little changes that noone complained but they still wanna change to make change, such as new UI change causing waste of space by leaving indent on panels, or changing triangle into another shape etc. so the wrong decisions or small little changes that are being shown like they made it better but actually not....If some things dont bother users, they should stay same because of muscle memory or where u click should be same, no need to change things nonstop with undecisiveness . Instead of these, they can improve slowdowns happened with 2.80 or old but slow parts of blender. Changing workspaces or using modes were faster in 2.79 for example.

    • @RainSoxx
      @RainSoxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mcan-piano4718 but they do those little changes for UX and readability, they have to think about new users, nut just current users. Those changes are also simple to make and doesn't exactly break the mind of a current user but can seriously help new users find their ways around.
