If i have learned about reading about accidents is that not safety interlock is enough, there is always a flaw or someone in a hurry or lazy that finds a way to circumvent them and ends up injured or killed. A very big part of accident mitigation is working with the workers about safety culture and also the working environment. So many times accidents have happened because workers get too pressured or because someone wants to save money.

I did a stupid thing about 15 years ago at a woodworking shop in school… I walked up to a disk sander that was turned off but still spinning, didn’t have an apron on and before I knew it my tie had gotten pulled in by the disk… everything came to a stop because it had run out of momentum but it could have easily snapped my neck if it had been at full power. 😬

My woodworking teacher would've flipped out if he saw me wearing a tie inn class. His first rule of shop class was no loose clothes or hair.

As a manager I don’t want to see anyone hurt. Makes a lot of sense, as you will be the first one to blame.

@@worksafebc oh I do. I just find myself having to watch the American CSB findings because Canada is behind on everything compared to USA which is evident in Ontario where it’s all bad

And when that new system fails and there's another accident, then they will design, build and install another type of lock-out-tagout that will be the end of all accidents, well until the next!!

Don’t think ties are a good idea in a woodworking shop , think we had to take off rings and neck chains at our class.
