I wanted to start with a shorter, less improv performance. Now that she knows, we can start to get into the longer sets where he really takes off. I can listen all day 😁

I second this. Pride and Joy is a personal favorite of mine, but its far from a showcase of what SRV can do or was really about.

Introduce her to his exquisite instrumental, "Riviera Paradise," that is infused with soft elements of jazz. Also, to another of his original pieces... his "Ain't Gone 'n' Give Up On Love" at the Capitol Theater. The vocals are as passionate as the guitar playing!

When I watch great guitarists, I watch their hands. Been watching hands for 40 years. All of them. In particular, and this makes complete sense, the two people with the supplest hands are Stevie and Jimi. Sooooooooooo relaxed. Just effortless in movement; zero tension. Beautiful to watch and epic for the ear. Great post.

I started playing guitar back in the mid 80s and SRV was one of my first guitar idols back then. I had been huge fans of many other guitarists like Clapton, Paige, Rhodes and Hendrix but SRV was one of the first guitarists that amazed me by his tone alone. There was so much power and energy in his tone that it sounded like he was channeling pure lightning from his strings to the amp.
A great memory for me was that I got to see SRV live during his "In Step" album tour. Even better was that my best friend's older brother, who was friends with a number of people in the music industry, knew the guy running the sound for the concernt. He was able to get us back stage passes to meet Stevie.
I wish I had some great story where I got to meet him and jam together but it was really just 20-30 people who got to line up, shake his hand and talk to him for a minute or so. Still, for a 17 year old kid who had been playing guitar for a few years at that point it was absolutely amazing to me. 😁

"You better leave my little girl alone" would be amazing for her to see. As well as the unforgettable duo performance he did with Johnny Copeland (Blues Legend) called "Tin Pan Alley" many regard as one of the best Blues performances ever. Stevie's genuine and obvious respect for him is so humbly evident. And you can look very closely to see the amazement in Mr. Copeland's face during several of Stevie's ad-lib deep dive solos. Absolutely phenomenal performance. Where old school and next level meet, trade off and respect each other. As the famous quote states: "Good blues guitarist legends can play it in sentences...Stevie plays paragraphs." RIP Thank you for showing this wonderful young lady legendary music. She may also get a real kick out of his version of "Mary had a little lamb" which floors allot of the younger people. Liked, Subscribed, Bell hit. Wonderful YT Channel.

Not the song I would've picked as for many guitarists (myself included) say the hardest part of this song is the riff and licks while singing. The dynamics he uses and the ability to mute certain strings while letting notes ring through and changing constantly. Hybrid picking bends all while singing. I can play all of the notes in time. I can't sound anywhere near him and I've only heard maybe three guitarists sound like him. RIP my hero.

SRV was exceptional. I'd like to suggest you take a look at another exceptional blues player that doesn't get the attention that SRV gets, but who was a groundbreaking legend of a guitarist, the late Rory Gallagher. Listen to the 1984 performance in Belfast of "I Wonder Who" for a sample of Rory's electric blues. For a different take, try listening to his acoustic version of "Out on the Western Plain". Or he and Bela Fleck performing "Walking Blues" in 1994 at Montreux in an impromptu set-neither artist had any idea they would be playing together and had never done so previously. You can feel the fun these two artists were having. Thanks!

    Okay young mom,
Here we go! In this day & age cellphones are a part of many people! Stevie Ray's guitar was a part of HIM!! You'' see & hear in a moment or two..... Very special with a truck load of raw talent. Alexis I can almost guarantee you will enjoy Stevie!!!! Now review Texas Flood. His older brother Jimmy is a good guitarist also! No wait you two do check it out!!!!!
