    "If Queen were to break up or decide to call it a day, would you go on to another band?" "I wouldn't go on to another band, no." And Deacy stuck to that.

    Deacons voice is so soft and calm, hearing it makes me feel sleepy and instead of counting sheeps I count all the "you know?" then eventualy fell asleep without finishing this 30 min video. Thank you deacy!

    Immensely under rated musician and songwriter. Huge respect for John, for standing by his principles and feeling’s and sadness for Freddie following his death, no one could replace Freddie and John decided to retire . Hope he is well.

    Such a modest, sweet person! It’s so nice to hear John talk about the band-his insights are so interesting and insightful! Being a scientist myself, I love his reference to ‘science’ and it’s integration into the band’s music and performing. True professional in every way! ❤️👑

      Notice how he constantly plays down his part. It's very strange. Roger says he is more responsible for the musical production and he says he isn't. So what, is Roger just making it up?
      In every interview I have ever heard with him he has played down his own role and been reluctant to give himself any credit

    • @15gilsonrd
      @15gilsonrd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Tony Homewood I agree. John seems to have no ego at all-I feel he looked at his role with Queen as ‘a job’ where he played his part but never sought out the admiration of the fans or even his fellow band members like we would expect of a rock star. I don’t agree, but I believe being the last member of Queen to join the band, combined with the fact he was not a vocalist, also contributed to his feeling ‘less important’ than the other band members. Finally, I get the impression John only continued his music career because he liked what he saw in Queen and may not have actively pursued another band if he and Brian and Roger hadn’t found each other. Humble, honest, and immensely talented musician who I feel is one of the best and under appreciated bass players in rock history. ❤️👑🎸

      @@15gilsonrd I have played bass for 43 years. Trust me, he is the most under-rated bassist in history. It was hearing his Musicman Stingray at Hyde part in 1976, that made me swap from rhythm to bass.
      Not wishing to contradict him but Queen's rhythm section was the basis of their live sound. I once described it as the canvass that Freddie and Brian painted on.
      As John said, "Roger and I have a way of playing." Yeah, too bloody true you do. Taylor is a phenomenally good drummer. I play drums too a little. Taylor and Deacon are up their with Bonham and Jones, Entwhistle and Moon. They can comfortably be spoken of in the same breath

    • @DirectDemocrat
      @DirectDemocrat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@15gilsonrd Also....he played all rhythm guitar on Sheer Heart Attack because Brian had hepatitis and was too ill. Brian once said he was the best rhythm player he'd played with. He was also a very good acoustic player. He could play drums too, but he even played that down. You can see him on the One Vision video playing drums. He said if that....."Well, I know a few patterns, but he played on a couple of tracks on Hot Space.
      He was, and still is, finance director of Queen Music. He was the one who dealt with all the contractual stuff because they decided not to trust anyone else. A kind of Magic was a Roger song but it didn't work. Roger went off to LA for some reason and John and Freddie remixed it with John adding that bass line. The result was what you hear today. Under Pressure was another Deacon creation, yet he tried to give Bowie the credit for the bass line. But that is not what Roger, Brian or even Bowie said. Again, he played down his part in it. He inspired the song with his bass line. The producer said the same.
      All John says is, not me guv

Freddie forever and Deaky Forever.....Brian and Roger too of course. Today I'm listening to Deaky's bass behind Freddie and Montserrat's masterpiece. Nice interview. I'm pretty sure this is a print journalist interviewing him. In his interview with Brian, Brian says he liked the guy's article. So it's not meant to be listened to, it's just a basis for the guy writing an article later. That's why the interviewer isn't trying to sound like he's there to entertain anyone.

    What a punk that dj was, so blunt and tactless. Was he so daft that he didn't grasp the fact that he was interviewing Rock Royalty? Imagine saying Queen's performances were rehearsed to the point of "sterility." He had already thrown that line at Freddie, who corrected him saying "That's called _professionalism."_ So the kid says the same thing to John not once, but twice. I give Deaks credit for not throwing his drink in the kid's face.

      @@Nina-oi1qk Thank you, Nina; I'm not usually this salty, lol. It's fair play to ask the same question--indeed, _any_ question--of all four members; to me it just sounds like the dj is taking a jab at Queen by suggesting their performances are so flawless that they have an atmosphere of "sterility." But to pose that question to John _again_ toward the end of the interview (especially since he seemed to be struggling to answer it) seems redundant at best and mean-spirited at worst. I'm going to listen to the May and Taylor interviews; it'll be interesting to hear how they responded.😙
