Thank you. I took my 2019 civic to a mechanic and I was told that was going to cost me 650 bucks. 1 hour late and 110 bucks in parts I was done. Saved 540.🎉😅 thank you

Hey man, thank you!! I’m an old school backyard mechanic and I had never had the pleasure of working with these electronic parking break systems. This video was very simple and straightforward and to the point. A lot of these newer/ish vehicles are just a motherF$&$! With all of the new “features” on them. Extremely helpful and made my day extremely easy! Both rears pads and rotors and both fronts pad swap in three hours and that was with the neighbor guy talking my ear off and asking dumb questions. Me also responding to said stupid questions 😂.
Also an oil change in those three hours. Excellent video! Very helpful! Thanks again man!

You saved me from a big headache. Although I used this video for a 2018 Honda CRV. I’ve never worked on anything newer than 2016. I was wondering why my c clamp wasn’t pushing the piston back in and it was because I didn’t tighten the thread in to set it back to factory. Thank you so much

I performed the same procedure on my mom's 2019 Honda Accord, which has an electronic parking brake. However, her brake pads had worn down to the metal, necessitating a rotor replacement. I used a caliper push-back tool, and everything functioned correctly with no brake lights or issues. Soon, I'll be applying the same process to my friend's 2018 Honda Civic rear brake pads. I hope it works as smoothly as it did with my mom's 2019 Honda Accord. Hopefully, the brake light issue isn't inconsistent among some Hondas.

Best of luck we do many Hondas along with other makes we either remove the EPB model like seen or use a scanner to put it in service mode. I personally don't recommend trying to turn it in with out using one of those two methods.

  • @dchall8

On the topic of retracting the electronic parking brake, I asked Google Bard how to do that, and it gave me the following steps.
_Here are the steps to retract the electronic parking brake mechanism on a 2018 Honda Civic:
Start the engine and press the brake pedal.
Hold the parking brake switch down for 5 seconds.
    Release the parking brake switch.
Press the parking brake switch again and hold it down for 5 seconds.
    Release the parking brake switch.
The electronic parking brake mechanism should now be retracted. You can then compress the caliper piston and replace the brake pads as described in the previous instructions._
Do you know if this works?

We could not retract the brake piston of my vehicle's 2018 model Civic I-dtec sedan with the chassis diagnostic software. We retracted the piston in a similar way as you did and it works without any problems. The only thing I don't understand is that you broke the screw on the disk, we put the screw back and tightened it. You cut the screw, won't this be a problem?

    • @danthebrakeman

There ain't nothing on that car that is "cheap" Maybe a steering wheel cover? lol I got a civic I know.. their stuff is way overpriced! especially from Honda dealership. I have to replace my two back rotors and pads as well, so thinking of doing it myself.
