WOW!!!! That is some very impressive bass playing at such young age!! To master John Taylor's style with all the ghost notes and quick fingerstyle going on in this song takes a lot of talent and skill!! You really nailed it!!! Also the first time I heard this song played on a Sterling by MM SUB 4, and it really sounds fantastic! Never thought Rio could sound so good with the Stingray sound(I think these SUB Ray4 basses sound more like the vintage Stingrays than todays modern MM Stingray bass guitars anyway)! I picked up the bass again about a year ago after a long break. Played with a pick all my life and then saw your versions of Rio and Like a Prayer. They are some of the best bass playing I’ve ever seen. Convinced me I had to get lessons so I’ve effectively had to relearn from scratch. Six weeks in and I can play 20% of Rio and 0% of like a prayer ha ha. Your bass playing is simply brilliant. Massive thanks for sharing them.

I just found your channel when searching for Silk Sonic. I watched that video, the Dua Lipa Don't Start Now, and then wondered if you ever covered Duran Duran. Lo and behold! I am a big Duran Duran/John Taylor fan and if you haven't explored their catalog, I high recommend you do. Also John played in the Power Station and they did some great stuff too. My dad is also a bass player, I'll have to show him your videos!

Yes definite praise young lady as this to me & many bassist's who've heard it & went on to learn it is one of thee best bass lines to come out of the 80's... I'm not ashamed to admit I became a huge fan & subsequently went on to play the bass because of John Taylor... I don't know if it's a bassist thing as we never big up ourselves/are very modest & aren't ones to not share in the knowledge that we've learned & pass it on to other bassists but i took me a while to understand why John Taylor didn't think he's was that good as a bass player yet he laid down one of the sickest bass lines that I've heard period & went on to consistently do so through out his career... After reading many of the individual autobiographys about the members of Duran Duran & JT openly giving us an insight into his life retrospectively via documentarys I then understood that it was something rooted deep within Johns thinking & how he percieved himself rather than his bass playing ability & it's great to hear he's more at peace with himself than in his younger years... I will add something more to this & that is the 70s & especially the 80s was a very experimental time when it came to laying down songs because as each decade past we learned new ways to put songs & instruments down in an studio environment... If ever there was time when overdubbing was over used it was then & John Taylor has admitted to putting down layers of individual bass lines to create an overall sound & Rio certain parts was no different... So if your playing this & are having difficulty with the amount of dead notes & going from slapping root octaves & back in too the main riff again then don't because I've seen John play this bass line so many times live & it's less busy than how he recorded as certain parts were recodred separately & then mixed in... He also gave himself are hard time for using the Plectrum on Planet Earth because as he later self confess that he couldn't make his fingers go that fast & get a good percussive rythmn going yet I think this became one of those accidental moment were it helped the bass line stand out more & I think the use of the Plectrum which he rarely used made that bass line pop even more... John Taylor is definitely in & on my Top Bassists list & to you all out there i advise that you should listen to more of his great bass lines if you havent already... Oh yeah & if you ever want to be blown away by an amazing bass player then listen to the late great Mick Karn as I've never heard someone then & since that plays the bass the way he did, especially on a fretless... Excuse any spelling mistakes as It'll be my auto correct which is an auto pain....
