i'm so so stuned by the fact that he can just instantly play what he is playing, just by hearing and seeing it.
Well it by having a base key that you know and playing off that. Most song are based off chords so it helps alot
I’m glad you enjoy it 😊
I’m generally listening for the bass notes, then I can deduce the scale and chords that the song is using from those bass notes quite quickly…the melodies then usually use notes from the chord notes (or notes surrounding them). So the result sounds similar to the original, but it all comes from a little bit of music theory and practice 😊
@@matticawood that's really impressive
F-ing incredible 🤯
Incredibly talented!! I’m good at piano and can do it some…but nowhere near the level he does. Genius…
This man is a genius because he gets you to sit through a video of a car alarm going off for three minutes, and as a bonus gives us a good piano song
Tony is absolutely the most articulate piano player in existence. His notes are clear, sharp, crisp, and incredibly full. Mesmerizing to hear him play and amazing to watch what he does next.
I really like listening to a pro player explaining what another pro player is doing. Very informative. Thanks.
5:20 The piano sound comes from another device. This electric piano is from Costzon (88-Key Digital Piano, Portable Electric). And the car siren is also added in in post. You can also hear that there is a side chain compressor on it. There also is missing the pedal (because there is no cable). That is not improvised at all. It's staged but sounds and looks cool :D
Yeah, I noticed that it sounded heavily compressed and either has a lot of low end EQ or an added bass underneath. I assumed that he may have either recorded the midi before, or edited it afterwards 😊
So something about Tony Ann. He records the audio and then records a video of him playing on a keyboard afterward. That's why you see no cord coming from his piano and why there are times when you aren't hearing exactly what he's "playing". Regardless, he is still a great player. I just wish he recorded everything simultaneously. But after all, it's just for aesthetic purposes.
My neighbour’s car alarm is one of my favourite piano pieces and I can’t believe you actually checked it out!
I am currently practicing my neighbour's car alarm! Thanks for the interesting insight! Perfect timing!
Interesting that not every note heard is actually played in the video.
No problem! Is your neighbours car alarm also a “B” 😂
@@matticawood hahaha, of course
Don't think we didn't notice you perfectly edited this video to go from your playing back to Tony Ann's playing.
What amazes me most about these videos is how well Matthew can figure out chords and keys by ear and then reproduce the piece he just listened to by ear. I hope to be able to do this one day, but I don’t really know where to begin in learning this skill even though I have been playing piano for a couple years.
I feel like this. It's so impressive to be able to just pick out notes from what seems like such an intricate piece. Despite trying to learn for a couple years now, it would've taken me a great while just to figure out a couple notes from this, nevermind the whole thing. Matthew continues to amaze me!
I’m glad you enjoy my videos 😊
Try hearing the bass notes that are at the bottom of the chords…these notes can help you narrow down which scale the song is possibly using..then when you know the scale that narrows down the the 7 triads the song will likely be using…and when you know the triads, the melody is usually mostly using notes from the triads as well.
It’s kind of a process that (once you’ve practiced it enough) becomes pretty quick 😊
Thank you so much! I tried it out, and after some practice, I can get it close. I've been looking for this kind of an explanation for so long!
@@matticawood that is a fantastic explanation! Here I am trying to pick out notes from the melody, while also hearing the bass or accompaniment, it can be difficult. Singling out the bass notes and going from there makes it seem so much simpler. Thank you so much! Any chance you wanna move to Ontario and be my piano teacher? No? It was worth a shot.... 😂
I know! He’s a talented genius, true well learned pianist.
Love your content, Matt!
Sir. You are awesome. You made Tony’s Music seem so simple.. Wow…
Hello. Just came across you today while looking at some Tony Ann videos. I find it amazing your insight on piano and being able to see, hear, and play instantly. I used to play when I was younger. I've been wanting to play again. I'll definitely be watching your videos to re learn. You're very inspiring
Thanks for the overview of those performances. I am fan of your videos, you share a lot of knowledge for beginners, thank you very much!
No problem, I’m glad you like the videos 😊
oh wow what an awesome video! thanks for all the explanation!
It's weird that I just heard Tony Ann for the first time last night, then you upload a reaction video of his performances haha. Ty for the video as always :)
It’s fate! No problem! 😊
really nice that you did a video about tony ann i really like him
Love your stuff and the professional reviews :) Keep it up!
Thanks! 😊
Wow, i literally waited till this moment. My 2 favorite piano players in one video ❤
Matt and Matt again?! 😉
Thank you Matthew❤️
No problem 😊
How is my man so underrated get this guy's subcount up like rn
Right!!!??? ❤🇺🇸🍻🍻🍻
Super cool video as always
Thank you! 😊
Tony ann being one of my favorites of not the favorite, and with mw not being good with theory (yet), i could watch you doing this for hours
I’m glad you enjoy my videos! 😊
8:08 ofc, I have thought about it so many times and yes, it's prerecorded
Please react to Tony Ann’s fur Elise waltz!!! Amazing video.❤️
Definition of showing your a pitch perfect human without saying you are one
1:17 the motif is based on Bachs G minor (Luo Ni Arrangement)
It’s crazy to see how good someone can get at piano. I currently am learning la Campanella but I have the feeling that with 6 years experience I should be able to play more pieces than I am :( I hope I can learn some more pieces interested future
Learning music is definitely a long term thing and a lot of the nicest sounding pieces of music are not the most complex. La Campanella is a tough piece, but enjoy the process…it’s fun to see the small improvements each day when you are learning a tough piece 😊
Nice 👍👍👍 Very entertaining content you have
Thank you! 😊
As a guitar player, my left hand does everything, and my right hand simply follows along, picking, plucking, or strumming, as needed. I don't even think about it much, if at all. It just knows what to do.
One would think that on a piano, these things would be similar, but they are not even close. I feel like a complete newbie, My left hand has no idea where it is going next, while my right hand has all of the power, and way too many options.
This is hard!
But when I get to the point where I can play basic chord patterns, comfortably, with both hands, I am never going to stop expanding from there.
I'm willing to bet he's using a Go pro chest mount camera.. I havent played piano since I was maybe 8 years old, but you explain it where even I can understand. well done.
thats so random help-
what piano do you use?
You should check out the performances of Kassia on TH-cam! One of my go-to channels for performances with MIDI. I would especially suggest shostakovich - waltz no. 2, Hungarian dance no. 5, La Campanella or Monti - Czardas!
2:38 Most likely some Go Pro with a chest mount.
That second performance sound kind of similar to Interstellar like music.
do cheak out the river flows in you x experince
or cheak out the rain
Chernobyl would be a picnic compared to if Tony ever lost his fingers.
Can you do epilogue from lalaland😢 please
Waited to see iphone song, but it was top4, so you it missed your watch list( Anyway, thx for video, it was fascinating to see how you play all pieces exactly same way just by hearing it
Maybe il do that one in a future video 😊
Hello, you should really react to Birru's arrangement of Howl's moving castle, it's incredible. Nice video btw :D
3:35 Sheesh man
In the second one, it sounded like he mixed Interstellar with Ludovico Einaudi
Yh he did (interstellar x experience)
One day I’ll be able to identify chords like Mathew
Keep practicing and you will get there 😊
Camera is moving with his head, pretty sure is a gopro or similar
i am pretty sure that isnt interstellar theme :P correct me if i am wrong
I mean the name of the video is " The Interstellar Experience" i guess he changed it or i am just wrong and forgot how it sounded
He mixed the interstellar theme with the piece Experience by Einaudi.
I see thx @@Nickita404
1:09 C-sharp minor or G-sharp minor?
You are indeed correct, my bad! It is G# minor 😊
Hello Matthew it’s been along time since I’ve seen your videos, last time I saw your video was back in 2022 and I’ve seen your channel grow, I’m here to suggest an underrated Flashy & extreme virtuosic pianist by the name of Gyorgy Cziffra, there’s this piece of his I’d love to see you react too. The video title is Cziffra’s “Il Trovatore” Paraphrase Audio + Sheet Music. Tell me your opinion about the recommendation, would love to hear from you.
Bro react on Jacobs piano and Patrick pls
Sounded a little like Bach’s Prelude No.2 in C Minor
Team Small 09:39 🙃
Please react to Tim Minchin - Dark side (awesome version)
I love Tim Minchin, I’ve been to see him live many many years ago. When he first became popular I used to learn all his songs 😊
@@matticawood Yeah, he’s an undeniable genius. His new album is really good too. Strongly recommend “The absence of you” and “Talked too much, stayed too long”.
Good Video, but you don‘t reacted to Icarus
Is this another Tony Ann piece?
Yes
th-cam.com/video/SyenaRJyy00/w-d-xo.htmlsi=f-WyH7P7R6Cxinnw
It's pretty obvious all of his videos were edited as I can hear the audio and video is not matching up.
Some of the notes and chords being played is not the sound of the notes I hear.
Especially no way in hell a car alarm being this loud during sunrise for this amount of time.
I even suspect these videos were generated by AI.
You never know…maybe his neighbours like the sound of an endless, obnoxiously loud car alarm 😂
Yeah on Pulse there are parts where video doesn't match with audio and I noticed that at one point he's playing octave with his left hand (E-B-E) where G# can be heard but is not played at all on the video. Also at 2:25 he keeps alternating G#'s but that is not what's heard..
Comeback with black midi reacting
He is using a bodycam
I thank so
That makes sense! I thought he was doing some strange contortion 😂
