1990-91 Brawl of Old Trafford: Manchester United v Arsenal

  • Highlights of the October 1990 game between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford, remembered for the brawl involving most of the players on the pitch. Bad blood had built between the players over recent games, especially McClair and Winterburn. Considering there has never really been a fierce rivalry between the fans of United and Arsenal, there have been some cracking on-pitch battles over the years stirred up by various player rivalries.

Great upload. Loved it when away fans had the terrace behind the goal. Love the goal celebrations from the Arsenal fans here. Used to be wild back then when a goal went in. Football; today way too sanitised,

It is so weird watching these old clips and comparing the game to now. There are just so many differences. It is a very different game now. Everything from the way it's played, right down to the way the players dress in their kits/boots. Mind you, old people back in 1991 probably thought the same, comparing it to the 60's etc. The difference being, I have been alive to watch the transition. I wonder what football will look like in the year 2050.

I was there and I remember everyone around me was annoyed because we didn’t think the ball had crossed the line for arsenals goal. And the ‘ brawl ‘ was nothing just handbags, definitely not a points deduction. In fact I think the Arsenal v Norwich brawl in late 1989 was worse and no points were deducted then.

George Graham was a great manager at one time and seeing how things ended at Leeds and then Spurs, you can't help but think how his style of football aged ungracefully. And many a great manager has experienced the same.

    • @graemechristopher4008
      @graemechristopher4008 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sorry, I disagree with you. It’s not really about styles, but rather talent, opportunity and timing. Contrary to what you say, George Graham did very well at Leeds, he took them from mid table to sixth place finish within three seasons, and paved the foundation for David O’Leary to take them into the champions league. Every manager has their time, nothing at all to do with styles, this is a very shallow argument.

And rightly so after that nasty, vicious tackle on Irwin that had absolutely nothing to do with the ball as he deliberately goes over the ball to smash Irwin. The only ones kacking their pants were the Arsenal players as they knew the FA would come after them due to the previous tear up they had with Norwich.

Can't remember football being so bad and yet exiting as this. They were crazy then and the best was yet to come at the arrival of Wenger. I've seen the pep talks of "Sir" Alex Ferguson . Only Eddie Murphy used more f***'s than him. He was always way too aggressive and when his French twinbro. arrived it was on between them and the most exiting matches ever would soon become my favorite spectacles . When i watched arsenal in my young life, they would never accept thugs and bullies bullying them.
Alex fergusons team was always full of thugs, that is why in those years arsenal man utd were so vicious games. Man utd under fergie would bully teams, as they were just a bunch of thugs.
My last game watching arsenal, was arsenal winning the title in old trafford in 2002 in front of man utds fans, and that was my swansong as an arsenal fan.
In those years no one could bully arsenal.
Thats why arsenal are rubbish since, as they cannot play those big games, and cannot stand upto thug teams like man utd under fergie bullying them.
Thats why arsenal man utd games back then were vicious, as man utd under fergie bullied teams, but they could never bully arsenal in years i watched them.
Thats why arsenal were the only team that got close to the cheating man utd so often.
What we did to liverpool in 1989, we did to man utd in 2002, lol. Lightening struck twice. No other club could win league championships, like we won those two, in front of the opposing teams fans, in there own stadium.
I was the person responsible for man utd falling away, as i told people using the net how alex ferguson cheated with weapons. Thats why man utd fell away, and have not gone back since.
I have not seen epl since 2002, that night we won league in man utds home ground, and it makes me laugh i told people how fergie was cheating them, and it led to man utd falling away from top of english premier league.
Manutd under fergie, bunch of cheating scum, and i am always proud of how arsenal in years i watched them never were bullied by man utd, like how man utd dominated most other teams.
It makes me laugh so much arsenal man utd rivalry does not exist anymore, lol. Those games were great and thats what competitive sport is about.
