This would have been the only game the Giants were on NBC in 84 as they were playing a AFC team at home. Their only other game against the AFC was on CBS against the Jets as both the Jets & Giants were playing with the old (1978-94) last place schedule from how they faired in 1983. They both would also finish in last place in 87 too so that’s why they played each other in that final game of the 88 season. Also happened in 1981 as well.
I remember that schedule format making the Giants play the Buccaneers twice in a season, the same for the Packers in a different season. The Jets played the Seahawks twice in a season for last place finishes the year before.
One of the few studio show segments that was named for what was covered (no more are): the others were The Prudential College Football Report from 1985 through 1988 on CBS w/Jim Nantz (Greg Gumbel was on that in the 1989 season), and The Prudential College Scoreboard on ABC w/Dave Diles, et al.

That NBC theme music from the time hits me right in the gut with nostalgia feels.
