I believe this story was the very first place where I heard of the concept of matter being made of atoms. It made quite an impact upon my young self (I was born in the 80s, but my father raised me on the programs he grew up listening to).
Escape is my favorite series. The high production quality never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for posting your comments - I'm not too far from Canada (about four hours) I'm in Michigan, and have been to Canada many times!
"My people are a higher evolution of the human race. We shall now rule the world." --Magneto during the first and last issue of the X-Men comic, if Magneto hadn't been a dick
I had forgotten that they literally use the word "mutant" in this story. I wonder if the heirs of this story's original author, or the copyright holders of ESCAPE, feel like suing Marvel Comics to try and get some of that Disney/Fox movie money....
Thanks for subscribing! As I've said, this could be my most favorite episode! I'm sure you'll enjoy ESCAPE. Every episode is a high quality production.
I also saw the end coming, as well as the momentary Moreau similarity, but It was still very expertly delivered and "satisfying." That kind of twist has been done many times since this story was first broadcast over 70 years ago. I would imagine it came as much more of a surprise back in '49. Also, I kept thinking of John Carpenter's "They Live." I know a few people who believe aliens are already secretly living among us, even ruling us. Who knows? Maybe I'm one. Maybe you! Muahahaha!
I found this to be a hopeful story. Not scary at all. Imagine a more intelligent, more compassionate human race. (Though no women, it seems. Does this mean we females are already evolved?)
Just because we don't hear from females in this production, I would tend to think they played an important part in reaching the next generation of humans - and yes, it's fair to say that most women have evolved further than most men!
The old "look over there"! Works every time
Sometimes I listen to these as a way to help me fall asleep. They occasionally have an interesting impact on my dreams.
Never listened to radio sci fi. This will be fun. Good story. Thank you !

This could very well be my most favorite episode! (of my 170+ favorites from Escape!)
I've heard most of these Escape episodes and am surprised I haven't heard this one before. It is one of my favorites now.
@@Mr22thou It's great when you discover a "new" episode!
Just found "Escape"...so cool, huge thank you. Keep it up Apr/May 2020 Corona time! Canada

Great tale.
One of the best!
"Chewing a pack of LifeSavers?" The 40s were a different time indeed...
Is this a joke, or people actually not do this any more?
Dr. Grove sounds like Hap from the AutoLite / Harlow Wilcox commercials on Suspense.
This story is an allegory for everything we have done with animals. Everything that happens in thia story is exactly like our treatment of animals.
was expecting a Dr Moreau but was tricked - pleasantly - denouement was predictable - acting was good - overall a satisfying listen
I'm glad you enjoyed this one! It's truly one of my very favorite episodes - Charlie
BTW I never really liked"Island of Dr. Moreau," even though Burt Lancaster is one of my favorite actors!

@@Mr22thou You are SO right about the ending! Still, this is a very satisfying story - perhaps my favorite! Pardon me, while I walk out thru the wall.
If you liked this, then you'll definitely like "If You Was a Mocklin" from X Minus One.
Gilligan little buddy!
Sorry to break it to you lieutenant but if you're in the military you're already somebody's pet.
I wish to assure you all listening that when we superiors gain control of Earth, we will be very kind to you.
Say again? I was walking through the wall when you posted your comment!

Can somebody explain to me the ending? I think I get it but I'm not sure.
I would have answered sooner, but I lost my phone and internet for 3 days! Thanks - giveaway deleted!
