- Lighting dhoop is an ancient tradition that has been followed for many years in India due to it’s amazing spiritual and health benefits. Dhoop usage has been in the culture for many years and in fact every South Indian home will have dhoop holders that will be more than 100 years old .. Women after having their hair washed, light up dhoop to dry it very quickly and also leave a beautiful fragrant smell in their hair. During winter months, if we use dhoop, we will not get a headache, especially if we have long, thick hair.

Honestly you could use anything fire proof to hold the incense as long as you have something to keep your hands from burning. A candle holder or a mug for hot drinks.
