This was an extremely instructive game for a player at my level (~3d). Relatively easy to understand, and handling situations like that left side is indeed where I often get into trouble. And congrats on a nice win!

What an instructive game, which shows how much AI changed the Go world... and your style too, Michael. Twenty years ago, you played usually a territory-oriented strategy, with lots of local give-and-take situations, but now you play a smooth game, looking for chances to change tack as things go on - not that you never did that before of course, but this seems now to be your will instead of being somewhat driven into it. Many thanks for all your dedicated work on the channel, which I follow thoroughly and joyfully. Happy new year !

May I ask a question ? A few years ago, you featured some games of AlphaZero, but now it seems that nobody uses this AI program. My opinion is that the way AlphaZero plays is totally out of this world and much too complicated and intricate, always leaving lots of local positions unfinished and sailing smoothly among these dangerous rocks, which would be totally mind-blowing for a human brain. Is that the reason ?
In chess there seems to be less problems, I reas many comments admiring the totally new concepts AlphaZero unveiled in the game.

Fascinating. So many moves i would never see, and timing considerations. Using the aji in the lower left corner for endgame... I feel lucky i can grasp even a small amount of what's happening in the game. Congratulations on the win!
Again Michael, lucid explanations. And again ego-less declaration of poor move choices. For kyu payers to see top professionals also vulnerable - and complacent even - is kind of really reassuring. All too often they are put on invincible pedestals. Many thanks.

excellent game! B definitely seemed like the bigger move to me. Im only 1 kyu and I dont really try to calculate the score, I just go for the biggest moves. So I figure not overthinking it lead me to the correct move in this case.

Great review, the explanation of moves like B5 that create opportunities for side invasions was very well done. I see a lot of shapes like B5 from the AI but never really know how to make use of them myself.

Congrats! And, may I say that it’s reassuring to know that even super high Dans like yourself can have lapse of judgement where you’d forget brilliant ideas you premeditated before. I always beat myself down for making that kind of mistakes. I suppose I’m only human for doing that

Would you ever do a series on Lessons In The Fundamentals Of Go? Kageyama is such an endearing writer, and the book played a major part in my falling in love with the game. But I fear I'm not quite getting some of it, and I think your style of analysis would really help. Regardless, thank you for your videos, I really appreciate the videos you make.

Yay! I got the AI move! The threat to threaten the cut at P8 swung it for me, making it more solid, and the fact that aji at O16 is nullified. I admit, though, that I became worried when I estimated how big J3 was with follow-ups... almost changed my mind...

at the end when you have points as in M5, how do you score that? Shouldn't white fill it in so black has to fill in O5? Do you do the "lets slide all the stones around" or take "dead soon-to-be-prisoners and fill in noncongruent points?" approach? 37:38 M5
Moves such as White M5 and N18, with Black O5 and O19 are filled before counting but are usually not included in the game record. They are called dame points and traditionally were not considered to be a part of the game in the Japanese rules, which was the rule set for this game. There are some cases with the Chinese rule set in which the playout of such moves can be relevant, and in such cases, you might see the dame points included in a game record.
