    An extremely well thought out video, for the non-professional. Thanks.
    So, to extrapolate this explanation, can I assume that if the parathyroid glands are malfunctioning, they can lead to the PTH levels not being sufficient, to assist with the shown éffectors', and hence, calcium being continually removed from the bones which, over time, can lead to osteoporosis?'I am asking as my oldest sister (who lives on Australia's East Coast) has been diagnosed with very severe osteoporosis, & am trying to help with some health possibilities. As I live in New Zealand, I cannot do this directly. Thanks.

    I'm writing a report on this for college and can say it's really helped. Thank you 🙌🏼 I understand osteoclasts really well but when it comes to osteoblast I'm a little confused.. would osteoblast activation mean a positive feedback loop in this case?

    • @BakaSama24
      @BakaSama24 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Osteoclast activity inhibits this process while the osteoblast activity stimulates it. And since osteoblast activity isnt directly affected by PTH, so i wouldn't say it participates in the feedback cycle for this hormone.

    • @creynolds588
      @creynolds588 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Osteoblast activity is always a negative feedback loop for example when blood Ca2 levels are too HIGH. Positive feedback loops enhance a bodily condition until the body has completed it's job so to speak. (Like a woman having a baby the contractions become more frequent until the baby is born.)

    Hi, Dr. Matt
    Thank you for this video, really informative!
    I was just reading about calcium homeostasis, source states that kalsitriol accelerates osteocyte maturation and also that it reduces excretion of parathormone. I understood it as that kalsitriol has negative feedback effect with PTH hence reducing its excretion. What I didn't understand about maturation of osteocytes is that they mature from osteoblast, so does kalsitriol also make more bone material by activating osteoblasts, wouldn't this then reduce bloods calcium content?

    • @SickACable
      @SickACable 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It makes more sense now when I think about it as osteoclast that matures into active osteoclast, which then starts break bone material down into calcium.
