  • In this episode, Sayu Rinpoche boards the SNCF Low Cost High Speed Train from Paris to Lyon - The Second Largest City of France. What Makes A Low Cost Train Different from a Regular High Speed Train? Once arriving in Lyon, Sayu Rinpoche discovers two world class attractions - Notre Dame of Lyon (Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière) and the Gallo Roman Amphitheatre - both are right next to each other and totally free to visit! The first day of Lyon is recapped at local Bouchon Comptoir Abel - where late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain filmed a segment of his world renowned TV series "Parts Unknown" !

Lyon is at the confluence of the main river (le Rhône) and its big tributary (la Saône). During the Gallo-Roman period it was the capital of Gaule (France).

One of the best cities in Europe outside the "major capitols", I've debated retiring there as they have one of the best bike/transit systems..

Hi thanks for watching buddy. 🙏 I remember there was a direct bus from Gare de Lyon to Trocadero, where you could access Tour Eiffel. Just use Google maps and it should give you the most up to date information!

I wanted to travel from Lyon to Paris. I wanted to know how to book tickets for this train ? Can it be booked at the counter or is there any app?

Hi I think you'll need to purchase either on their website or the app. I believe the app is called "OUIGO". Because it's a low cost service, I don't think you'll find a counter at the station to buy the tickets. Hope it helps!

Hi are you planning to buy the ticket for low cost high speed train? I think since you can only buy them online so yes you'll need to purchase in advance! I suggest you should buy them as early as possible since the low cost tickets do sell out fast (FYI I wasn't able to secure a ticket for the subsequent train trip from Lyon to Marseille!)

Try getting a 20 Euro ticket to Nice. More like 200.

Nice is a tricky destination to get to. The "high speed" service between Marseille and Nice isn't really high speed due to the railway running along a rather treacherous coast. I ended up taking a local Provence regional train and didn't really lose that much time (if I did lose any at all).
If you are referring to the service between Paris - Nice, I wouldn't even bother taking the train. I'd go with flying since it's cheaper and takes less time
