    I've always tried to empathize with both Bay and Regina, though I'm not a mother. I get Regina did what she thought was best out of fear of losing the child she already bonded with and never getting the chance to meet the child she gave birth to, but what makes Bay's feelings SO valid and Regina's actions so hurtful is that, if you remember, before this conversation Regina kept her distance from Bay, didn't try to bond with her or know her, while the Kennishes DID THAT with Daphne. Bay felt that everyone preferred Daphne over her, and by this point in the story Regina knew they wouldn't take her daughters away, and they were grown enough to make their own choices even if the Kennishes tried it, so what gives?

    • @HollyShannen19
      @HollyShannen19  3 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      Yes. Absolutely. That's what I'm talking about. She whines all the time : Oh I'm so hurt to be so far away from you all those years yet did absolutely nothing to get close to Bay when she has the chance and possibility without fear she's gonna lose her daughters.

    • @Wawagirl17
      @Wawagirl17 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @@HollyShannen19 Agreed. The explanation she gave later in season 2 was that for so long she had to pretend that Bay didn't exist to make the situation hurt less, and so by the time they actually met each other when Bay was 15, it was difficult to undo all that. Which is somewhat understandable and sympathetic, but I really feel like a mature adult should work harder to deal with those issues and push past them for the sake of their child. It's not Bay's fault that Regina made a plethora of bad decisions.

      @@Wawagirl17 yes I 100% agree and on top of that Regina and Bay never really form a bond. The closest they ever get is the summer they live together but honestly most of the scenes they have together throughout the series are them arguing and it's annoying because that happens and then Regina gets upset because Bay is being honest about the fact that they barely have a relationship. Then she tells Bay that she will do better AND SHE NEVER DOES!

      Guilt really sucks and it's honestly not Regina's fault. It's really hard to bond with someone like that when guilt is involved so you try to keep your distance. I think that Regina suffers from commitment issues after Angelo accused her of cheating. It's not her fault tbh it's the hospitals. Angelo is a victim too.

    • @lunabelletheinsane
      @lunabelletheinsane 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@dnaksndnirjddndbe2575 That's bullshit. It was at base the hospital's fault, but everything after Regina found out when the girl's were three is Regina's. She had multiple opportunities AFTER she moved into the guest house to repair her relationship with Bay and she never did. So she had commitment issues? So what? This isn't some guy she can dump at a later date if things don't work out, it's HER DAUGHTER. That she personally failed time and time again on her own accord. The fact that the hospital was at fault is irrelevant in all those situations because they didn't make Regina push Bay away once it was found out.

    I understand both side. Regina was right by the time. The Kennish are hypocrite they would have took BOTH. But Bay is right to feel hurt. It really break my heart when she said « what about me » and it’s not a surprise that Bay is the first to understand Regina at the end. They always have a connection despite being apart. That’s why Daphné bacame jalous later.

    • @HollyShannen19
      @HollyShannen19  4 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      I don't think Keninishes are hypocrits. They took both girls in Ece Mono cause they were scared for their safety but I don't think it would be that way if she told the truth after being sober for couple of years and I don't think judge would give both to the Kennishes. I understand Regina wanted what's best for her daughters I really do. But as you said yourself - my heart breaks so much for Bay. And what bothers me is Regina's very little effort to get close to Bay even though Bay was indeed the first one to forgive her. Back to the Kennishes - Kathryn couple years later told Regina that she understands now why she did what she did. Both families wanted all the best for both girls, there's no doubt about that.

      @@HollyShannen19 Honestly I dont think it would make difference if she was sober or not. She would still risk of losing both girls. Even in the episode, what if Regina came forward. They didnt even gave her a chance to get sober and file restraining order. Let the girls still get in touch with Adrianna. John was extremely pissed when he found out the girls went to find Regina. In other words her being sober didnt really matter.
      Even in the first episode, this was way before they knew that Regina knew and Regina has been SOBER for YEARS. They were very judgemental of her parenting skills and did threaten her to take full custody of Daphne. So it didnt really matter if Regina was sober or not. Regina grew me and I think the reason I liked her so much is she’s the parent of a deaf child that I wish many of people in my community have but it shows the other person that irks me about her how I don’t really feel throughout the seasons, she tried to make a real connection with Bae the fact that you took pictures of her, but didn’t want your child back. That you finally get to be around her and you still are kind of ignoring her.

    Regina really did do what was best for her rather than what was right or what was best for the girls.
    She was terrified of losing one or both girls, but if it was what was best for the girls shouldn't that have been a risk worth taking?
    I mean the moment Regina knew Daphne wasn't her child and there was a questionable legality, the fact Regina knew this child wasn't the child she should have- wouldn't that make Daphne an abducted child? the moment Regina knew the truth.
    In those pictures wouldn't it have shown Bay's growing disconnection from the Kinneshs if Regina cared to look deeper than surface value of growing up?
    The show was meant to be about the lives of both girls; Daphne and Bay and the switch, but the show favoured Daphne over Bay. Daphne was the golden child everyone wanted and bonded with and made sure was doing well, while a lot of the time Bay was left on the outside looking in.
    The Kinnesh's and Regina started off in a tug of war for Daphne's attention and affection.
    Regina didn't really want to bond with Bay- who from the show looked to be trying to connect with Regina like Daphne was with Katheryn.
    Regina's attention was more on Daphne. Even when Regina did bond with Bay Daphne was still priority for both moms

  • @TheBoneVampire
    @TheBoneVampire ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The real truth here is there IS no good choice. Either she does nothing: Bay has a good upbringing and isn’t ripped away from her parents who raised her. Also Daphne, her instincts were right in that they would have tried to rip Daphne away from Regina. So both girls were protected that way.
    OR she reveals the truth: which means both girls and J&K missed out on so many years. There really wasn’t a perfect choice, either way someone is hurt.
    The girls would have been hurt either way. Probably better as teenagers when they are a little more stable. I think she chose the lesser of two evils.

    It's no one's fault but the hospital's honestly. If they weren't switched at birth in the first place then it wouldn't be a problem for anyone. Regina also has a lot of guilt. Guilt is a really strong emotion that animals like humans have and it's not her fault for feeling it at all. Regina didn't want to get Bay back because she's feel guilty for ripping her apart from the only family she knew by then. Regina also suffers from commitment issues. Commitment issues are caused by fear of hurt and missing out and trauma. Things like that. The only people to blame is the hospital and the only person who was able to see the bigger picture was Toby and Regina.

    This is how I know Bay was ignored. When she tells Regina “I was your daughter. Me. Not her and you chose her over me” she is showing just how insignificant she feels in her world and that has grown even more so since Daphne came into the picture. She was never actually chosen by either family which I can only imagine is the worst feeling.😢

    I dont really blame Regina. Lets be really, Regina was right, John and Kathryn would have taken them both. It was proven later in the show, what would have happened if Regina came foward. They would have taken them both and they wouldnt have given Regina a chance. Daphne would have been spoiled brat. Toby would have been ignored and wouldnt have Regina help him with his gambling addiction. Bay would still feel unwanted charity case child. In a way.
    Both anyone say the Kennish only wanted custody of both of the daughters bc Regina was an alcoholic. Regina should have waited when she was atleast sober for couple of years. I stil believe it wouldnt make the difference if she waited a couple of years to report the switched. In Ecce Mono, they didnt even gave her a chance to get sober. They file restraining order aganist her and hide gifts she would spend to the girls. From it seem they didnt let Regina's other family members to have relationships with the girls.
    Plus ever since the very beginning the series and this was way before they knew that Regina knew about the switch. They did threaten to take full custody of Daphne. Regina at that point has been sober for years. So her being an alcoholic wasnt the Kennish main problem. They were pretty judgemental of Regina's parenting styles. The only reason why the Kennishes couldnt get full custody is bc Daphne was almost 18.

    Here's how I feel about the whole ordeal:
    Bay was in the complete right to feel the way she did about the situation. Regina "not wanting to traumatize the girls" or "take them away from the only family they'd ever known" was incredibly selfish on her part. All they sound like are cop-outs and excuses to me. She did illegal things in her past, most of which involved alcohol, and was still going through it at that point, (I think. I haven't watched this show in a while) and didn't want to face the consequences of her actions. She didn't want to make herself look worse and put her feelings before everyone else's. Also, shouldn't there have been some legal repercussions to this? Finding out your non-adopted, non-stepchild isn't the one you gave birth to and STILL keeping her anyway has to be illegal. Taking both girls to live with the Kennishes would've done both families a world of good. Regina shouldn't have gotten to have had her cake and eaten it too. You do illegal things, you don't get to have our child in your custody. That's just how it works.

      No it wouldn't cause it wouldn't be ripping out like they are some objects that you can just relocate. Plus, she was only 3. I don't remember a single thing from that time and I doubt if she would. And I say what I'm repeating all the time - Regina wanted best for both and did great job as a mother of Daphne but didn't care for Bay much or at least didn't show it and Bay didn't felt it. Throughout the show Bay repeately had to ask Regina for time together, for posibility to get close to her. Regina never fought for Bay - not after finding out about the switch and not later when the truth was out. She keeps saying how sorry she is but that's all she's doing - like in the last episode "I'm so glad I found you and so sorry for the time I missed" - yeah, well you didn't really found he, you knew where she was all along and if it wasn't for Bay you would still be just collecting her pictures in the guitar case.

However, it wasn't just for Regina, the same goes for John and Adrianna. My biggest issue of this show is the favoritism the show had with Daphne over Bay. I always felt the parents expect Angelo and Kathryn to favor Daphne over Bay. John did seem more interested in Daphne's life over Bay, only seem to get involved when Bay got into trouble. Adrianna never seems interested in bonding with her bio granddaughter. She even tried to get Angelo deported, when she knew Bay wanted to get to know her father better, yeah I wouldn't be happy if my daughter got back with her ex that left her but I also wouldn't try to get him deported esp if my granddaughter was happy to see it. The same goes for Bay's material grandma, who did ignore Bay for Daphne. Even in the alternative version, where Regina reported the switched Bay felt like the black sheep that didn't belong and unwanted. For me Kathryn was the best parent in the show, she always tried to bond with all her three kids equally, without being asked or told.

They could be good people like Katheryn who is understanding and reasoning. Or they could’ve been like John who believes that past actions define a person and they can never change despite correcting their wrongs. He is also controlling, stubborn, he apparently he doesn’t realize that he treats his family like possessions. But most of all he is arrogant which worsens the other qualities. He doesn’t care how his actions effects others if he believes he is right, which is almost always.
