For those uninitiated as yet (largely the younger set, Generation Y, Z, Millennials the lot) and are intrigued enough, this version by the late Teresa Teng is a much more mellow, smoother and uptempo rendition, compared with the original Gu Mei's delivery which by all accounts was deliberately more angsty, poignant and even tortured. As befits the story plot of the movie. Different video footage are available on YT. Compare and contrast, master your vocal chords if you are up for it. Could well come in handy at some fund-raising charity event. For a youngster to belt out the poetic lyrics (both versions) capably, the expected older audience will hand you the plaudits I'm quite sure. The actress featured in the filmlet is Lin Dai who committed suicide (overdosed on sleeping pills, romantic heartbreak) never really sang the song but only lip synched. True classics will stand the test of time, come what may. Gracias.
