The MV REFERS to the incident but the song itself is about longing for someone you loved. It is not directly tied to the incident and I wish people would stop spreading false information. The song came out almost 2 years after the incident happened. BTS has even said this is a song for someone you missed and never once said directly that it was written for the tragic incident.
RM wrote the song Spring Day while taking a walk one autumn day. He was missing his old friends who have mostly distanced themselves as BTS was growing bigger and bigger (this happened to all of the members) as well as that they were so busy with tours, special performances, and writing and producing music. For a long time they only had one and a half day off each month and even on those days they spent most of the time working. This song is missing someone you love or cared about whether it’s by distance, a break up or even death. However the mv is a tribute to those who perished when a ferry boat sank due to negligence and greed by the owner of the ferry and the negligence and greed by government officials that went all the way up to the president of SK at that time. Out of 300+ people who drowned 250 were high school students going on a trip. The government did nothing to save the passengers and even deterred local fishermen and divers to rescue. The parent and the locals were pleading let them help if the government wasn’t going to do it. An Italian army researched and fact finding and did an explanation video that explains the events that led to the sinking and the aftermath. It’s a very special song for army and in Korea it never left the charts. Armies are making sure it doesn’t leave as a reminder for all the social injustice due to hierarchy that is prevalent in Korea. BTS came very close to being blacklisted by the government.
