Lipstick is also one of the few cosmetic items where outer shell does have value beyond just holding the product - it's an item you carry with you and use in public, so having an aesthetically pleasing shell with a refillable inner component actually makes sense. Same with powder compacts.
I LOVE this observation - lipstick is one of the few beauty products that is also a fashion accessory/statement. To your point - taking it out and applying it public is an opportunity to "flex" your aesthetics (and in some cases, the value of your products)
also the outer shell has a lid, while the "refill" does not and usually the lid doesn't cannot fit on the inner shell alone, so the packaging is not only pretty but also functional
however, this kinda implies the only point of aesthetic products is for them to be seen by others. the value in having beautiful things for yourself, even if they may not be seen by others, is so often overlooked. I personally will always choose packaging that I find beautiful because I feel it improves my life in little ways, so I disagree that lipstick is one of the few cases where a pretty outer shell is reasonable, just because it's something you carry around in public. in reality, this could be said for any product you own if you're someone that truly values aesthetics in your own personal life.

Nature Lab, Living Proof, Ouai, Oribe, Kiehl’s, and Kérastase just to name a few. I even saw a refill pouch OGX! You can definitely get them for some brands in the US but it would be nice if more affordable drug store shampoos gave this option.

A malaysian brand called HYGR does this kinda magic too! Lip balms and deodorants. They have the updated version where the outer lip balm is made from bamboo and the inside can be replaced with a new one, also recyclable. Fantastic stuff i tell you!

Actually most if not all Luxury lipsticks are refillable. Dior, Prada, Chanel, Givenchy, etc all sell cheaper refills. Plus the lipsticks themselves last WAY longer which means you can use them for a longer period of time.
I bought mediheal toner pads and the inside is supposedly refillable but when i try to buy the refillables, they say our country doesnt get the refillable parts.
I still feel burned by the cute refillable lip balms I bought from a Korean brand that got discontinued and I was left with all the empty shells. The one major problem here is how frequently companies redesign their lipstick packaging.

Have you done a video discussing the risks of refillable products? Not lip products per-se but a moisturizer or shampoo. If you directly refill an old bottle you’re compromising the preservative system and at best reducing its shelf life or at worst introducing microbes. I don’t see a way around the bottle-to-bottle refillables for this reason. Even if you’re using a new pod with the same pump for example you’re still compromising the system. Companies cant control for the condition that the pump was stored in so would need to use more preservatives or better ones (aka good ol parabens) which consumers don’t like either.
