He and Jess were the 2 characters who would die no matter what. They changed it late into developement and writing, so they got one scene in CH10. Jess appears in CH9 for the first time after CH4, and Matt for the first time in CH10 after CH6.

Here's what i thought about these guys Ashley - Depictation of scaredy-cat in team. Scream for every little sudden-noises. Name one thing she contributed beside hurting players eardrums. Chris - The goofball character. Showed that having skill with gun, yet his impact never been any bigger. Maybe devs thought he can't be more than that. Emily - Has the sharpest tongue that rivals deadly venom. Trying on everybody's bad side is not a sign of intelligence. I'll take pet companion over her any day. Jessica - The stereotypical blonde. Like having fun & just fooling around. Could be the one that crack the mystery within the mine, and devs completely disagree. Josh - I feel sorry for you dude, suffering tragic of loss & trauma. Yes, the pranks he pulled indeed overboard, yet instead of redemption, he became the scapegoat needed in this situation. Matt - Just another jock in my opinion. I'd say that Matt is just bland, other than put up with Emily. Why bother having him around ? Mike - The tough guy on the team. Showed having leadership quality in face of adversity. Give this guy a partner already !! Sam - The words for her is girl's power. What's not to like about sam ? She has beauty, kindness, and caring for the team. Too bad "towel outfit" didn't last long. Stanger - Just another stranger, nothing else. Sudden introduction, and then die, just like that. Having good potential, able supporting role, yet just an expendable in devs creation. Wendigo - The main twist of the game. Fast & diabolical killing machine. Wonder why this creature creates big plothole. Maybe devs thought like it just like that, leave them the way it is, mystery.

Everybody did the work except Matt, Jess, and Chris, Emily found the mines, Mike investigated a bunch of buildings, Sam helped everyone escape, Ashley found the book and Chris kinda helped by helping the flame guy (Stranger)
