The James R. Barker....Gray skies above her and an ice field beneath....doesnt faze this giant of a ship. Shes awakens and says "crew its time to roll." And roll she does, a beautiful shot of the Barker going under the Blatnik bridge. She pushes on and makes her turn with the ease of a lithesome dancer. A wonderful view of her as she lines up with the Canal. A "bark" like no other follows her through. She knows shes the Best! An awesome shot of this magnificent girl making her turn as she departs the Canal. Shes back....the one and only James R. Barker! Good to see you! A wonderful video of a Laker favorite! Thank you so very much!
Royalty has arrived as the Barker proudly sails past the aerial bridge. Many thanks Captain, for the tremendous Master's Salute - you have made our day!
The Barker's like: outta my way ice! Choppy waters? You're not slowing me down. There's work to be done, and baby, I am back! How about a little fanfare, with backup from the Aerial Lift Bridge? Oh yeah! And what a Symphony!
When it is the first trip out for the season, and you know you have the best horn on the Lakes... you lean on that button a wee bit longer than normal.
Your vantage points and camera work in this video just seemed to make the Barker look even more huge than she actually is. That Master Salute was pretty awesome! Excellent catch and info as always. Thank you.......
Nah, she really is that huge. Actually have not yet seen a camera that can capture the sense you get from these ships as they go by. Think ant under boot!
Punxsutawney Phil's six more weeks has passed and the Barker is out of layup. Spring is finally here! Stay safe, everyone, and have a wonderful Great Lakes spring! 🖖🐢👣
Amazing job as always! I love the silos in the first part of the video; not sure why but it's patterns are really pretty. And a gorgeous salute by the Barker! Good way to start off the season
"The James R. Barker wishes to inform the cities of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin that the 2022 shipping season is underway." The Barker's captain certainly made her presence known.
Two buttons I believe. I’ve heard single-horn salutes from the Barker in the past. Interestingly she actually has a third horn mounted on her bow, but I’ve never heard it being used.
Think about that for a moment, just the props on this are 17 feet wide... EACH 😵💫😂 That's BIGGER than most livings rooms, your car OR your Chevy 2500 HD 😂😵💫
Just can’t get enough of that horn🤩
I've Always Been Barkin' but it's kept me from going insane!!!!

A wonderful video of a Laker favorite!
Thank you so very much!
She definitely made me wait for her… 10 hours after the Gott’s arrival. One of the few ships worth that kind of wait! 🙂
That serious salute, came in LOUD and CLEAR!!!!!!
Best horn on the Great Lakes hands down!!!
I think many will agree with you!
it's my ringtone
@@pattiehernandez769 Mine too! Aren't the looks you get in public when it goes off great?
@@terryboyer1342 people look around wonder " what is that noise 🤔???
@@pattiehernandez769 Yep!

That was a Blast and a Half!
That just makes me happy,

Yes, they need to warn everyone that they are back in action!
The captain was having fun with that symphonic blast!
Master Salutes just don't get any better! The crew likes that unique horn as much as we do. :)
Standing on the bank in the freezing cold just to watch the Barker sail past and be blown away by her unique horn blasts.
On the bucket list !
Best bark on the lakes.
Nothing like "the bark"!
If there's one horn on the great Lakes that can symbolize America's industrial might, it would be the James R. Barker's.

Thanks Bob! Waited 10 hours in my car to catch this one… glad to know it was enjoyed!

"King of Barks"
1st class start to finish. Loved it.
I’ll admit I’m not a big fan of the footers, but I’ll always watch a video of the Barker. Her horn makes me smile every time. Thanks for sharing!
Wow! We could hear that GRAND MASTER SALUTE from the Barker all the way here in Michigan.
Wow, great artistic shots! Talented editing. Really brings these ships and the harbor to life.
Thanks! Appreciate the kind comments.

Thanks Steph! I like those silos too, as they make a nice backdrop. 🙂
What an amazing sound! I loves me some GL Barker!
Epic!! 🤟👂📢
Well that was just spectacular !
now thats a ships horn!
Great Video!! Nice Work!! What a Salute that was Great!!

I thought I heard 👂 😕 🤔 something the other day out of the west 🤔 here in the Mohawk Valley along the Eire Canal in Utica, NY.
Sound does travel 😃🔊📣📢🙃
She must be nearly scraping the bottom of the canal with that load. The canal is only 28' deep and Barker was certainly drawing all of that.
I feel like the Paul 'Gurtha should deserve a horn like this
When you make the longs extra long, so that the shorts can be longs too.
🔊🔊🔊🔉🔉👍🏼😎✌🏼
I wonder if it two-tones automatically or if he's got two buttons
Two buttons I believe. I’ve heard single-horn salutes from the Barker in the past. Interestingly she actually has a third horn mounted on her bow, but I’ve never heard it being used.
She used the third horn last year when the main two froze up
Quick question. What color is she. Is it a deep red or is it brown?
A reddish brown. Or is that a brownish red? Let’s say it’s rust colored. 😆
Who's that ship in front of James r Barker?

Why are there 3 longs?
3 longs and 2 shorts is a master salute… considered an alternate to a traditional captain’s salute.
