    Eureka moment! I finally solved a problem and I wanted to share with your viewers. I've been having a hard time getting the 'exact' correct moisture into my bathbombs. I've had to 'redo' 4 different batches because they were too powdery after drying perfectly. Or too wet with only a 'tiny' bit of moisure added. Here was the key for me. (and credit to my husband who has been listening to my woes.) He said, maybe it has to do with the 'time you need to let the material sit with the moisture in it first.) AHA! Yes Yes Yes....just like when you Autolyse bread flour to hydrate it over time before continuing, ...just like when you use Slake time to allow mortar time to hydrate before adjusting water amount in the mix....Just like when ERIKA says she puts a small amount of water into her bakingsoda 1st....and couldn't fully explain why it just made them smoother/better. I have since made 3 BATCHES OF BATHBOMBS TO PERFECTION by hydrating my baking soda first....and also letting the entire bathbomb mixture sit for a good 15 minutes before adding my final ingrediant (citric acid). And Voila! Perfect bathboms.
    So glad my hubby actually listens to my problems. ;)

      Such a great anecdote and definitely useful for other bath bomb makers! Glad you were able to troubleshoot!

      That sounds sooo promising to my problem that I'm facing currently. So I have been following everyone's advice: put the acid citric last! My mixture is always perfect before the citric acid, yet it becomes too wet right after I add citric acid in it and the bath bombs always expand out of the molds. If I use the same recipe with baking soda and citric acid added at the same time, it's even too dry and I will need more witch hazel (My dry ingredients % is 98%). So I guess I will try letting the mixture set for a couple of minutes before adding citric acid and see if it works :D

      @onepartofone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So true. I have also noticed it. I got distracted by my husband while making bombs, thinking that I still needed to add more water (I use witch hazel actually) but when I return to making them they were wet enough. So indirectly my hubby helped me also. 😁😁

      I came to the same conclusion about allowing more time for my product to soak, and absorb the moisture. Nice Discovery! I found this out when the last half of my cubes came out better than the ones at the beginning of my process.

    Thank you for always having a smile 😁. Your information was very helpful. I made some bath balms today for the first time.. without epsom salt. The first 3 came out perfectly. The rest just started to crumble, even after adding a sprits of rubbing alcohol. Should I have used water instead of the alcohol when spritzing? It seem as though it kept getting dry quickly. Good tip on the humidifier. Love all your videos ❤️

Putting all I have financially into starting this business 🥺😭 can't afford to keep messing up!! But this video answered my questions. I think its definitely my humidity and the Epsom salt 🤔🤔 .. I'll try again tomorrow. Ya pray from me!!! Thank you for this video!! Honestly!!!

    Thanks for the dehumidifier info. I had trouble with heat melting my cubes, and taking so long for them to dry. They also stick to the ice cube molds, and chunks fall out when I remove them. Now I freeze them before I remove them from the molds, and they come out perfect. I have been thinking about spraying the mold with a non-stick before I fill it.

Have you experienced putting the bomb in the water and it begins to swell up and then it sort of shoots off foaming goodness, then the bomb will spin and fizz and last a nice long time, the water feels great, nice hard bombs, it just looks different from other bombs? I've been having issues recently with my bombs, and it made me so upset I wanted to throw my bath bomb across the room yesterday! :/ I just changed my recipe with taking out epsom salt (small amount of it anyways), but it seems to be a moisture issue. They are cracking so badly after drying for a bit and it's driving me nuts. I will be trying the method of adding citric acid last and upping my oil content (I use only water for the other liquid) to see if that makes a difference! My bf thinks it's the mold I'm using, but the mix is too dry and even when I add water it seems to evaporate and I add more and it's still dry... :(

  • @prism7697
    @prism7697 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I made 8 batches yesterday (1/4 of your regular recipe, for pictures for my website), and things went wrong 3/8 times. Once cracked, once I added too much water (which was very difficult because I quarter your recipe and it was raining) and lastly I was just too tired and added citric acid first lol. Thanks for the recipe, the video and all the tips. The bathbombs are only a small part of my business, but it's the most fun and I want it to be the best, even if it's just a bath product.

    I have been loving your videos! Not sure if you respond to comments but I do have a question, I have no idea what is wrong with my mix because it contradicts itself! Some mix sticks to the mold making me think the mix is too wet and then the mix won’t adhere in the center and crumbles very easily making me think the mix is too dry and then the bath bombs won’t get completely solid making me think the mix is too wet ! I am so confused … any tips ?

    Thank you again I think my problem is the amount of SLSA to citric acid. You are always so informative
    which isn't always the case. Very helpful presentation again. Thankyou

    hi - just wondering about my problem - i have tried a new mold - the mermaid tail - the recipe is one i have used forever - but this time - when i picked up the tail - it broke - there is an obvious weak point where the body swoops in then out to form the tail - what do i do - can i grind them up and add witch hazel or coconut oil or do i just stamp my feet and grind them up divide the powder and dye one portion darker and then layer them in jars - thanks

    I used your recipe for humid weather and forgot to put the shea butter. Will they be ok to use?

    I love this video! So many useful tips and explained really well. Thank you! I'm curious, have you tried buttermilk powder? I tried it a few days ago in a bath bomb mix and it frothed up great pre-mold, but when I tried it after drying for 24 hrs, no froth, no fizz, not even a tiny bubble. I'm thinking might I have the wrong ratio mix perhaps? I used 1 tbsp to the 1 cup baking soda recipe.

    Hello Jerika and thank you so much for this awesome video!! Just one question : I'm looking for buying some kaolin clay , but it seems that there are 2 kinds : the heavy and the light one, which one of them is the right? Thank you in advance 💟

      Not sure which! I just get the regular kaolin clay.
