Brady looked lost and tired most of the 2022 season ( including that wild card game ). There were ( obviously ) huge coaching problems in Tampa. So when a disaster happens, more often than not, it occurs for many reasons. Especially in a team sport like football.
Byron Leftwich saved this offense from looking even worse than it did. It's not a big loss for him. He'll have his pick of teams that want him in the near future.
put tom in that raiders offense with that run game and a much better offensive line than tampa and i can assure you tom brady would look like a top 3 qb in raiders history in just one season
Shannon contradicted himself. He said Leftwich called all the plays for all those years, then talked about how Bruce Arians changed the game plan on Saturdays. So was Leftwich calling Arians game plans??? 🤷🏿♂️
I think Arians dictates the offensive philosophy and it was Leftwich's job to figure out the how, schemes, and details. Arians then oversees, corrects, and adjusts
This was all Todd Bowles. Byron wanted to be the HC and thought he was passed over for a failed one time coach of the NY Jets. I think Byron tried to call BS plays to get Todd fired in hopes of a job promotion but it backfired on him. The same thing happened in Dallas when Wade Phillips was the HC and Jason Garrett was the OC…..Garrett sabotaged the game-plan in order to get the HC job. When Garrett was the OC they were very pass happy when everybody was calling for them to be more balanced and run oriented. Once he became HC DeMarco Murray almost broke Eric Dickerson single season rushing record. Byron was trying to use that same blueprint and it backfired on him and Todd Bowles got rid of him.
Ppl not understanding why he’s getting fired didn’t watch the Bucs play. You can predict what they were about to do which was screen pass non stop and if they would get one good run they would automatically do it again. Another thing on the screen passes they called for screen passes so much tom nearly got intercepted several times. Only times they pushed the ball down the field this yr was for 5yd hitch & out routes
Exactly, they ran screen plays so much that they barely ever worked because the defenses became aware and they mainly provided an opportunity for an interception.
@Mark I disagree that a screen pass is the "only" choice if your offensive line is not very good. If a receiver or a back can get open to receive a pass on a screen play there are other places on the field they could get open just as easy and quick. There are teams with bad offenses that continually run quick plays across the middle behind the defense and in fact I have seen many teams do this play over and over and over again to move the ball down the field. There is going to be a problem with any play when the defense knows you are going to run it. If you are going to do that you might as well just throw the ball into the ground. However, the screenplay calls were not the only problem with Leftwich's play calling. He would call a run play for a short yardage first down attempt when the offense absolutely was not able to run a play instead of a pass play that was working better, and it failed nearly every time. It was just too many dumb mistakes he made for as long as I watched him from when Brady went there. I thought they needed to fire him last year and to get a new head coach too, but they didn't do either of those things only made it worse by splitting coaching duties and responsibilities with Bowles on the one thing they did have and that was a good defense. They made Bowles head coach and the defense and the team coaching suffered for it. What happened to mess up this year with the Bucs started last year about 2/3 of the way through the season and here we are.
As a Buccaneers fan this saddens me. I understand why they did it, the offense was not good even though the offensive line was injured all season. I just liked the guy.
@@anel313det yes you are absolutely right. I’ve always wondered why they never went no huddle offense more often, because they were good at it. But I just like Byron Leftwich as a person. But I guess that is no reason to keep a person if they are not getting the job done.
Blame the black guy, who helped win a super bowl and who did not pick the people on the offensive line, Blame the black guy for the quarterback not preforming to his best abilities. Some of the same plays and quarterback did not complete.
1:07 The irony of Shannon saying this about Brady when Lakers collapsed last year when LeBron got Westbrick to come to the Lakers who got fired? Frank Vogel
He did not get fired because Tom Brady played bad. He got fired because EVERYONE played bad. Every person on the O was worst. The run calls were non existent or stale. There was no kind of innovation on the offense. And he can’t compare the Super Bowl year because yes he was the OC but Bruce arians had alot of control over the offense. The far as I’m concerned with how bad the defense regressed the D coordinator should’ve got let go as well. Every one took a step back.
Why doesn't Shannon ever acknowledge the fact that the entire team was terrible not just Brady? This went from a super bowl contender to trash in one year not just Brady BUT THE ENTIRE team so that's Bradys fault? Shannon can say whatever he wants anyone with an ounce of common sense knows this was a coaching issue. I'm not sure it was Byron's fault but it was DEFINITELY Bowle's fault.
I think most people miss the point of what people like Shannon are pointing out. When TB wins he's God and did everything right OMG TB did it again. But when things go wrong it doesn't go that way. If you're the goat as everyone likes to say best to ever do it. You must take the blame when things go wrong. If you're a football god take responsibility for the rain and the sunshine and everyone else should do likewise.
To Byron Leftwich defense what did you expect him to do with a depleted offense they had all season. Julio couldn't stay healthy offensive line was inconsistent you had a guy playing Center who never played center in the NFL and Leonard fournette showed up out of shape and basically was a shell of himself this year.
This season was absolutely a coaching problem. Guys just didn't come prepared. I could just tell practices were too lax under Bowles. BA used to have the guys dress up in pads far more often, and even if the guys hated it, they came ready to play on Sunday. I saw way too many videos this year with Bowles finishing his post-game speeches with "See yall on Wednesday...."
@@dillonbanks609 lmao... if you actually watched the Bucs, you'd know that theyd actually start moving the ball once they went into 2 minute drills, which is actually Brady calling plays... that being said, Brady and the rest of the team deserves a fair share of the blame. Still, they were clearly ill-prepared game after game, and we know this because we've seen them in the last 2 years play at a consistently high level. People forgetting Bruce was the main reason we had such a good offense when him and Byron worked well together, I personally think that Byron needs a more offensive minded head coach rather then someone conservative like Todd Bowles
While watching the SB you could see Brady also shouting "no" when some of the plays came in too. But agree with Skip, the other issues on this team were bad and the team suffered from them.
Shannon doesn't get that the Buccs have never needed to have a running game that is best in the NFL but damn they need one that at least isn't dead last and setting records for lack of production. There's a reason the Buccs had to throw ball 40+ times in multiple games and it wasn't because Tom Brady was bad. It was because the run game was so ineffective they had no choice but to throw it every down.
@@lucrative6477 Maybe, but at least he is an owner who knows that members of his team want to enjoy a Super Bowl victory and get their names in the books, that he tries to help them with that. Other teams let people go if they don't win a Super Bowl in their first season.
First off, I have watched every bucs game this season from start to finish. The offensive play calling has been so predictable and un-creative all season long. I have also listened to most of his press conferences... He just always seems so unaware and ignorant. I think BA pulled the strings and Byron got way too much credit for the past two seasons. I think it was the right decision to let him go.
Same play calling that for 3 years was top 3 in scoring and won a SB. Suddenly now the same OC can't call plays. Really? It's Brady. It happens you can't play forever. One day you fall of a cliff. Every QB does. Brady is no different. When he can't move at all in the pocket, and you slip just a bit. It's much worse. Brady had comebacks again terrible teams. Grats. He never came back against a good one.
The problem is not that they fired Byron but that they didn’t fire Todd as well. The art of successful leadership is being able to rapidly adjust to the resources you have and achieve your goals by changing the way you are executing based on the strengths you have remaining. A former SEcDEF who will remain unnamed once said that you fight with the Army you have, not the Army you wish you had. I saw no real adjustments by either Todd or Byron that played on the strengths of the men left on the field following several key injuries and retirements. Tom plays best when the offense is short and rapid-fire which keeps the chains moving and the opposing defense on the field. Byron’s play calling simply did not adjust and he was unable to change even after it was abundantly clear it was not working. Tampa needs to move on from Bowles ASAP IMHO, or better yet, offer him the Defense again where he excels.
Todd will either be back as just the defense coordinator or gone. He is not a head coach and never will be. He does not have the personality or the aptitude for the job.
S/V Nepenthe Hylas 46, You absolutely nailed it. I started saying a few weeks into the season that Todd Bowles was not head coach material when I recognized Bucs were losing to teams they shouldn't have been losing to. But I think Leftwich was less of the problem. Bowles head coached Bucs just like he head coached the Jets.
The SecDef didn’t know what he was talking about. You troops have to be prepared, trained and capable. If you don’t have that you may win some isolated battles but you aren’t winning a war. Tampa Bay needed a better offensive line and the needed to be patient with their run game. LF7 can still run if you give him space.
Skip Bayless is right about the Buccaneers offensive line play & the running game was horrible & no Play action to set up the passing game so the Buccs with Byron & Tom were actually overachiever's in my opinion! & Shannon Sharp called it on the fact that they were ranked like #1 & 2 in many offensive areas & this year they were like ranked #23 & 24 in many offensive areas so their offense just basically declined skillfully & their weren't many playmakers & an all passing offense just doesn't work no matter how good of wide recievers you have
@Simulation algorithm Most teams have their go to plays and there are only so many plays available in football. If the line cannot overpower in the trenches, running is going to help.

You can’t blame the OC when the WRs are hurt/not getting open, and the oline was hurt all season. On top of that Tom was wincing half the season. How is any of that his fault?
Didn’t like him at first, because CLEARLY he was hard headed, but you could tell when him and Brady truly met in the middle and there was no looking back after the bye week in 2020
Byron wasn't handed the calls until arians left, then he got his shot... it was very clear that the play calling was absolutely dogshit. I think leftwich is a horrible coach and it showed when he coached as the OC for arizona as well when he had a similar result when handed the play calling duties. Too many people are strung up on trying to blame Brady, I believe Brady was obviously down this year but the plays were far too predictable and no major adjustments were applied. This offense has too much talent for a coach to be that bad.
Todd Bowles. It's all about Todd Bowles. You can see his sideline energy is all wrong all the time, not to mention some of the demands he made about how the offense would be run. And just look at his tenure in NY.
Byron was only good when Bruce was head coach. I don't care what Shannon says. Even Dan Orlovsky said Monday night that the Bucs play calling was terrible.
I think tod Bowles wanted to hire his own staff, it’s reported he didn’t have a chance because of the late hiring to interview and appoint his own staff, I think that combined with the fact that byron was mad he didn’t get interviewed for the job it was just time for him to go because of those 2 reasons
Wow Shannon always has so many energy for Tom Brady tho lol no wonder why skip is always annoyed at him, we all know that when a team does bad the first person to go is the coach even if the quarter back plays bad
Shannon’s take is so superficial that I’ve got to assume it’s performative talk-show shtick. The Bucs offensive line this year was a shell of what it was the previous 2 seasons. Marpet retired, Cappa signed a free agent deal with the Bengals, Ryan Jensen was out all year and Donovan Smith was injured. Brady, for all of his strengths, is a classic, drop back, non-mobile quarterback. If you’re offensive line is a sieve, he won’t produce for you. And the simple fact is that the bucks coaching staff did nothing scheme wise to work around the offense’s inherent weaknesses.
They answered there own question without knowing it bruce arians was there adding his plays in the playbook and now hes gone leftwich had the reigns and he dropped the ball because the playcalling this year was god awful it was just so simple and predictable.
What got him fired in my opinion is calling a pass on a 1st and 5 getting an interception and then doing it again. You have to run the ball on the 1st and 5 whether you're good at running or not because otherwise you're just telling the other team you've given up on the run. I don't think it should have gotten him fired cuz we all make mistakes but that was a couple of pretty bad ones.
I mean wth did you think was gonna happen we can't have a 46 year old QB throwing 60+ balls a game and running the ball 2 maybe 3 times and our WR's we're on vacation all year and the defense played well when they felt like it the whole season was a disaster not just Tom Brady I feel like he was the only one trying on the team
@rodsmithk Brady’s final 2022 stats(including postseason): 525 completions - NFL Record 799 attempts - NFL Record - 66.8% completion rate 5,045 yards - 296.7 Passing YPG 27 TDs - 3.4% TD% 10 INTs - 1.2% INT% 90.7 Passer Rating NFL ranks this season at the end of a game(2 minute drill): PPD 4.3(1st in the NFL) Passing yds 262(1st in the NFL) TD:INT Ratio 4:0(1st in the NFL) 3rd down percentage 55.6(1st in the NFL) 1st downs 23(1st in the NFL) Brady had (5)4th quarter comebacks, and 3 of those he came back from double digits down in the 4th qtr to win. AND THAT'S A DOWN YEAR FOR A 45 YEAR OLD QB. If Brady doesn't play this year the Bucs win 3 games max. Bucs lost to the Browns in OT, lost by 5 to the Ravens, and 2 points to the Packers. They had leads in all of them but the Packers game. Brady can still play at an elite level and his arm is still strong and he's accurate with the deep ball. The problem this year was incompetent coaching by Bowles, horrible play calling(and that's exactly why Byron Leftwich was just fired), no running game to speak of, and the most important thing, the injury bug. It plagued this team all season beginning in training camp. That's the reason for the Bucs mediocre regular season and first round playoff exit. Shannon doesn’t use context; he sometimes just spews nonsensical rhetoric and gives lazy analysis 🤦🏽🤦🏽

They always black coaches and black QB 's first. Last hired first fired. Skip knows that Shannon is telling the truth and can't bring himself to say it.
Shannon is criticizing Brady, but the Chargers just let go of their OC after their playoff game because of a bad 2nd half against the Jags. It's normal for a team to make OC changes when a qb struggles. I ain't saying it's right but this isn't exclusive to Brady
@@garyfrancis4970 Brady ranked 1st in passing attempts, 3rd in passing yards, 8th in touchdowns, with the last ranked running attack in the NFL, and one of the worst offensive lines. It's hard to ignore that the bucs only looked good while Brady was running the 2-minute offense. Leftwich just may have needed Bruce more than we know.
Most teams look better in the 2-minute because it inherently causes an added disadvantage for the defense. That’s not the barometer I would use, but I see your point.
Nah. We need to stop acting like Brady can still win it all every year because he’s Brady. For some reason people just can't bring themselves to say that Tom Brady isn't playing well. Its blame everything and everyone around him but he can't possibly be part of the problem. Hero worship is dangerous.
This is what teams always do when their offense sputters…do not know why Shannon is making it look like Brady gets a pass. They fire coaches, not players. Everyone does it.

Fact, Justin Fields for the bears has 6 wins and 21 losses as a Bear over 2 seasons. Shannon making Tom out to be the worst QB in the entire game.
put tom in that raiders offense with that run game and a much better offensive line than tampa and i can assure you tom brady would look like a top 3 qb in raiders history in just one season
@@williamcanizales4483 Very good description.
Both narratives never change… seasons over and Shannon still hating on Brady. Byron has had horrible play calling
How you know. Tom Brady played n change 80% of the play calling...
They didn’t have an offensive line.
Exactly, they ran screen plays so much that they barely ever worked because the defenses became aware and they
mainly provided an opportunity for an interception.
Yep. Predictable play calling by leftwich got himself fired, I know the play beforehand let alone the opposing team.
Same play calling every game. Every first play of drive was a run play.
Predictable plays did not cause incomplete passes or an interception in the end zone. That was a burned out GOAT

Comparing the way Basketball works to the way Football works is hilarious.

Coaches coach and players play. Players need to execute, and they did not this year. Still, they were clearly ill-prepared game after game, and we know this because we've seen them in the last 2 years play at a consistently high level. And Bruce was definitely involved in game planning
Shannon is a Brady hater and looking for a scapeGOAT
People forgetting Bruce was the main reason we had such a good offense when him and Byron worked well together, I personally think that Byron needs a more offensive minded head coach rather then someone conservative like Todd Bowles
While watching the SB you could see Brady also shouting "no" when some of the plays came in too. But agree with Skip, the other issues on this team were bad and the team suffered from them.
I like how FANS know more than a Hall of Fame guy
Shannon doesn't get that the Buccs have never needed to have a running game that is best in the NFL but damn they need one that at least isn't dead last and setting records for lack of production. There's a reason the Buccs had to throw ball 40+ times in multiple games and it wasn't because Tom Brady was bad. It was because the run game was so ineffective they had no choice but to throw it every down.
Shannon is a rabid Brady hater. Usually the haters are more extreme in their bias than the stans
Thats literally what he said though😅
Same thing in Dallas but nobody wanted to fire that coordinator

S/V Nepenthe Hylas 46,
You absolutely nailed it. I started saying a few weeks into the season that Todd Bowles was not head coach material when I recognized Bucs were losing to teams they shouldn't have been losing to. But I think Leftwich was less of the problem. Bowles head coached Bucs just like he head coached the Jets.
there is no way that a team, with the Rooney rule in the NFL, would fire 2 black coaches at the same time especially the top 2.
They won't fire Todd because he is black. Unfortunately, It would be the right move but also a PR nightmare.
I just don't understand how Todd Bowles gets a pass for everything
Why would you call play action with no threat of a running game?...thats seems silly

So he’s supposed to say he’s playing good when he isn’t? I think that’s skip’s job, not Shannon’s.
I think tod Bowles wanted to hire his own staff, it’s reported he didn’t have a chance because of the late hiring to interview and appoint his own staff, I think that combined with the fact that byron was mad he didn’t get interviewed for the job it was just time for him to go because of those 2 reasons
Byron played it safe this year his play calling was way different
He didn’t have the complexion for the job protection simple as that..this is America 🤷🏾♂️
Wow Shannon always has so many energy for Tom Brady tho lol no wonder why skip is always annoyed at him, we all know that when a team does bad the first person to go is the coach even if the quarter back plays bad
It's not Byron's fault Brady got old and was unfocused this season!!! SMH. 💯
Todd Bowles has got to GO too
Shannon’s take is so superficial that I’ve got to assume it’s performative talk-show shtick.
Last year when B.A. would come in and change all Brady and Leftwich plans. It looks like he knew something they didn't
Skip saying all of that mess about how bad Tampa was this year. Then when the cowboys beat Tampa he acts like Tampa was the team to beat. Dude phony
If you fire Byron, Todd better be next out the door. BS change. The buck stops at the head coach.
Unbelievable. Brady needs to go home. I hate this.
