  • Qurbani, also known as Udhiyah, is the Islamic ritual of animal sacrifice performed during Eid ul-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice. This practice commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to Allah. However, Allah provided a ram to sacrifice instead, sparing Ismail's life.
The Qurbani ritual involves the slaughtering of a permissible animal, such as a sheep, goat, cow, or camel, after the Eid prayer on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The act of Qurbani is obligatory for Muslims who are financially able to perform it. The meat from the sacrificed animal is divided into three parts: one-third for the person performing the Qurbani, one-third for relatives and friends, and one-third for the needy and poor.
This practice is a significant aspect of Eid ul-Adha, symbolizing devotion, charity, and community spirit among Muslims worldwide.
