I don’t know how everyone else feels about this format (I suppose I could read the comments, but I won’t) …I really dig it!!! I love how you break down location, genre, and label and give a quick synopsis & your feedback on the record. I’ve taken a lot of screenshots to explore these bands / artists …especially those of the shoegaze / dream pop ilk. You have become one of my music gurus (guruesses?). Merry Christmas to you and Chris.
That really is so kind of you to say you enjoy this format! I spent a lot of time on this. It probably would have been easier for me to film a "normal" video, but it was fun to learn something different! I may occasionally use this format in the future, too! There was a lot of shoegaze/dream pop on this list, so I hope you find several that you love! Merry Christmas back to you from Chris and I! Thank you!
I can't believe I'm only JUST now into the bottom of the top 20 in your video and already have a substantial list of things I want to check out from what's under the top 20. Incredible, what a great best of 2024 list!
Awesome! That was precisely my goal. There is just a crazy amount of good music out there that takes a little more digging to find! So glad you enjoyed my list! Thanks! Cheers!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert The top 20 was wall-to-wall stuff I HAVE to check out, already have checked out four albums in there that caught my eye and they're all incredible so far! Truly incredible list!
Perfect timing Hanna! Leaving for my annual Christmas trip/ LA area record store tour. I'll sample the titles on this video and add any desired titles straight onto the buy list. Hope you have a Happy Holidays and thanks as always!
Hey there, Russ! Always great to hear from you. Thanks! I hope you were able to come up for air by now! Hehe! I know there's a lot here. It certainly was a top-notch year for releases! Happy holidays!
Great list! You gave me more music to check out for sure. I have been obsessed with the High Vis album so much. I have probably listened to it at least 20 or 30 times since I got it.
That Hi Vis album is definitely on my top albums of the year list too! There are a lot on here I’m excited to try out. As always, thanks for sharing your great recs!
THANK YOU so much for all your work to provide us with a top-notch listener’s guide to explore new stuff! I, for one, am in your debt. All the best for a great 2025!!!!
Hey Hannah! Thanks for the list. I look forward to hearing a lot of this as it is new to me. I see you successfully avoided The Lemon Twigs bandwagon. I did not. lol A Dream Is All We Know is my #1 of the year, Redd Kross' s/t was a close #2. On the jazz side Jerome Sabbagh's Heart album is great (a worthy follow-up to 2023's Vintage.) Happy New Year!!
Hiya! Yes, that new Redd Kross is stellar! I still want to get it on vinyl but my funds were suffering by the end of the year! I'll grab it eventually! Thanks for including your top LPs of the year! Happy New Year!
very cool intro/ new image. nice selections this year..every year i tell myself im gonna chill a little on buying more records..but nope. i keep buying. Have a great holiday season!
Aloha , Omaha introvert Awesome format to showcase 46 record albums & Cd's in a minimal amount of time. Hannah, thank you for the sub genres. Always great for myself to learn about new music 🎶 & bands. Thanks again, looking forward to watching more of your videos. Hau'oli Makahiki Hou ! Mahalo Ed.

the best record review i have seen yet , you killed it, the presentation is well thought out , the voice overs are my favorite part, the music selection is fantastic, some beautiful stuff here . 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Happy Holidays Hanna ! Thanks for all the effort you put into these - great to have one of the most authentic voices out there back on the scene again .
That Nada Surf is easily and by far my favourite album of the year... starts out infectious, then gets better each time I listen to it, and every time I listen to it, I go back and give one of their other albums another spin. The new Deary album is fantastic too. Thank you for posting all of these!
As I’m typing this, I currently have Passions Like Tar by Louse spinning on the turntable. I picked up the vinyl from Bandcamp because of your review, and it’s amazing! It’s everything you said it is. Thank you for the recommendation, and the video!
enjoyed the format a lot! need to check out the fever haze album now (surprised i haven't since i used to intern for the label it came out on lol). i enjoyed the dummy album quite a bit, so i'm happy to see it here
I'm with you on the Thus Love LP. It seems much more subdued but I really love the first song! So many bands I have to check out. Digging the new format as it makes it easier to take notes on bands I want to check out! Great job! Love High Vis! You mentioned Letters To Cleo - I saw them play here in my city back in the '90s. Fun show! It was right when their hit came out.
Thanks, Nicola! Yeah, that first track on Thus Love's new one is fire! The album as a whole is just not clicking for me...maybe in the future it will. I just don't know. I hate to say sophomore slump, but... OMG, sooooo amazing that you saw LTC in the 90s! I've always wanted to see them. I think they're on a small tour now..or soon. One of my faves!
A lot of bands I have never heard of = an exciting chance to discover new music! Your description of Smush peaked my curiosity...at least the first half :P I also took note of Bibi Club, Weak Signal, High Vis, NewDad and of course your number one pick Virgins - Nothing Hurt and Everything Was Beautiful to check out. I agree about Thus Love; the first record got a lot of spins but the follow up just didn't grab me. Mary Timony is on my personal top 10. The new Deary got an honorable mention for me. I liked knowing where the artists hailed from, the genres and the label; very detailed and informative. I can tell you worked very hard on this. Congrats on learning something new. Happy holidays!
Hey there! So glad I prompted you to check some of these out with my presentation! Love that Mary Timony is in your top 10! She's a gem. I appreciate the kind words. I did work pretty hard on this during my free time! Means a lot! Happy holidays to you as well! ❤️
Hello Hanna; Liked all the album picks for 2024 as they are the records you enjoy spinning the most. The format worked in the context of how the video was presented, Good Job! We want to wish both you & Chris a very Merry 🎄Christmas 🎁🎀& a safe, healthy & Happy 🎈🎉🧨🎊New Year in ☃❄2025. All the Best! 🤶Tina & 🎅Pat!~
Hi Tina and Pat! I hope you had a very Merry Christmas! We had a lovely day here. I'm glad you enjoyed my presentation. It definitely wasn't the easier route like I was hoping! Take care!
Hey Hanna! Cool video & design, love the shout out to Nada Surf, they never deliver a bad lp & Moon Mirror is gorgeous, think you'd like Matthew Caws's contributions to The Salt Collective album if you didn't find that project yet. Happy Christmas & New Year, see you in 2025!
Thank you, my friend! Yes, the Salt Collective LP was a great release. Eventually it'll end up in my collection, I'm sure. I have streamed it several times. Anything Caws touches is gold! Cheers, and happy holidays to you as well!
Hi Hanna. Interesting way to showcase your 2024 Best of list. You sure do take risks in exploring in music/acts. Old guy like me occasionally will introduce a new act to my music library. I'm intrigued to sample alot here. I have maybe 5 of the records in your list. Happy Holidays, Happy 2025!
Robert, so great to hear from you! I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas! And yes, it seems the older I get, the more open to new music and other genres I get! Glad to read you have about 5 of these records! Yay!
If I get a chance this or next week I will either show my list here or Instagram. Sometimes it's finding the right time. Xmas was nice as well. Hope you and Chris enjoyed yours.
Fantastic job and a nice presentation. I love that you've tapped into the magic that seems to be in the water in Montreal right now. Your picks PyPy and Bibi Club killed. Other great Montreal releases include Grand Public (jangle) DVTR (crazed post-punk duo) and venerable local heroes Les Breastfeeders (perhaps Montreal's Fleshtones?) who put the retro in post-punk. Applause for including the photo credits when able. Have a Happy New Year filled with great new music!
Great picks, and definitely some stuff I'll need to check out. I was glad to see Blushing's "Sugarcoat" on your list. I think I give the edge to their previous album, but there are still some great tracks like 'Fizz' on the new one.
A few albums I heard (and liked) in 2024: Sleepytime Gorilla Museum: Of The Last Human Being Shellac: To All Trains Belly: 96 Miles To Bethlehem Goat Girl: Below The Waste High On Fire: Cometh The Storm Chelsea Wolfe: She Reaches Out To She Arooj Aftab: Night Reign Blood Incantation: Absolute Elsewhere I still have a good deal more to listen to, but that's what I have so far. This will take a while.
Thanks, Stuart! I appreciate you sharing your list, too! I have been enjoying that latest LP from Chelsea Wolfe as well. I will probably be adding it to the collection soon. I like Goat Girl, too! Cheers, and happy holidays!
Thanks for posting this, including all the BC links! Had some fun listening through them. Amyl's vocals remind me of Poison Girls. -- Lots of CA acts, interesting. -- Ordered Topiaries (in contrast the new old Cure), fascinating that it Tolhurst Jr. -- Kim Gordon: would not have thought in a million years that you would like this! Or is it the Sonic Youth connection? -- Mt. Fog is interestingly idiosyncratic.
Hi Daniel! Thanks for the comment! It was a bit of a chore posting all the BC links, so I'm glad they helped you out! Yeah, I didn't expect my list to have so many artists/groups from California! Just happened that way! I'm in awe of Kim Gordon. Her longevity in this business and still keeping it fresh, interesting, and surprising us at her age is something to give her much kudos for! Happy to read you also appreciate the artistry and eclectic nature of Mt Fog's sound! Cheers!
Wow….I thought I was ‘that shoegaze person’ in the VC- I stand corrected 😆 What a great list and you’ve given me a LOT to explore especially since your #1 is completely new to me! I have Deary in my list as well, plus DIIV and a few others- well done!! 😎 Cheers-R
Wow ! lots here not on my radar and I thought I had a big radar. I did listen to tracks from Newdad , Robber Robber, Vr Sex and Weak Signal , but have not checked out full albums. I agree with you on both Thus Love and Fontaines D.C. , took me a bit time to warm up to the mid section of Romance. That being said it ended up being my no. 1 of the year. The Cure, Magdalena Bay, Diiv and Kings of Leon were some other favorites. Here are some other bands that caught my ear in 2024 , Sprints, The Bug Club, Ducks Ltd, Been Stellar,Psychic Graveyard and The Courettes . Happy new year!
I love your videos! Keep spinnin' and making videos in '25. I also loved Reds Pinks and Purples, Kim Gordon, The Messthetics, Mary Timony, Fontaines D.C., and The Cure. I need to check out the others listed! Cheers.
Hey Hanna! Absolute love this format of video! If I knew how to do it, I might copy you... 😄 Thank you for a great list showing a bunch of bands I have never heard off. Time for me to dig in! Take care! Jacob
Nice picks and presentation! Some familiar to me, some new, thanks! Although, I'm very surprised and curious that A Dream Is All We Know by The Lemon Twigs is not in here. Especially since how discovering your channel was through your Power Pop and Jangle Pop appreciation videos... I think I even mentioned them in the comments on Instagram or on here to you. The quality of the songwriting and sounds are undeniable, so it's strange there's no mention, let alone them being high in this 2024 list. So much so, if you played it next to any of the top 10 here and fair to say it's stands strong as a collection and would even be deemed a classic.
Haha, I understand re: your Lemon Twigs comment. I listened to it. I think my preference the last 2 years or so has been more in the shoegaze and post-punk realm. So I think there was really only one power pop proper album here. My music taste is cyclical, usually, so there will be a return! Be well!
Some great recommendations there. Your mention of the band The Sound has introduced me to their music. I'd never even heard of them before. I just bought From The Lion's Mouth on orange vinyl. What a fantastic album. I'm just waiting for the coloured vinyls of Jeopardy, All Fall Down and Heads & Hearts to arrive in the post. Thanks for the recommend.
Hi George! So glad that you got in on the Sound reissues! I got my reissue of Jeopardy, and it's excellent! Enjoy your spin time with the Sound! Cheers!
Keen to listen to No. 10, especially as waiting for Juliana Hatfield’s 2024 vinyl of How To Walk Away (2008) album. Thank you for such great music picks.
Isn't it great that we have been getting so many reissues of Juliana's catalog lately?! I hope they keep it going! I appreciate you catching my list! Cheers!
You've put together a great video. I've heard of some bands and am not familiar with others, but I'm looking forward to exploring. Appreciate your time.. Peace!!
Hi sweetie. What a beautiful list of music to be appreciated in. Thank you for putting us at No.1 . A world without music is one I couldn’t bare. Sending so much love and light your way. 🥰 love from Rebecca and all the other Virgins 🙏🌙♥️
Love seeing Dummy, NewDad and Boy with Apple on your list! And you turned me on to some new stuff I hadn't heard of! Thanks! If it's not too late, you should check out the new albums from: - Fawning 'All Around Me' (DreamPop/Shoegaze) - Prize Horse 'Under Sound' (Slowcore/Shoegaze) - Nala Sinephro 'Endlessness' (Ambient Jazz/Electronic)
Man, I thought I was thorough in my post-punk deep dives, yet you snagged Louse. Nice one! You're also the first I've seen to mention Magic Shoppe, they've been a favorite since I heard their second album nearly a decade ago. The fact that I have well over a thousand albums in my total list yet I still miss bands I’ve been following for years makes me want to crack my head against the wall. Better late than never. Mpls space rock/psych/shoegaze band Flavor Crystals are sounding more gorgeous than ever on their sixth album, the first since 2020. Yet another band on their sixth album is Sweden’s psych/dream pop combo The Amazing, featuring Dungen’s Reine Fiske. I'll just list a few things that weren't in your list which you might like if you hadn't already heard 'em. You probably heard my shoegaze picks, since yr like the shoegaze queen... The Narcotix - Dying: Brooklyn band’s debut is a master class in polyrhythmic vocal innovation and beauty. Citing influences like African wedding music, neoclassical symphonies, Afrobeat, Paramore, Kofi Olomide, and Warpaint, their first EP was an extension of the shapeshifting, ethereal music of Raincoats’ Odyshape (1981), Lizzy Mercier Descloux’s global post-punk fusion on Mambo Nassau (1981), and The Slits circa Return of the Giant Slits (1981) where they fuse their dub roots with skewed African rhythms. The full-length is not much longer, but it packs a lot in, including lushly layered arrangements weaving Siera Leonean Adam Turay’s beautifully abstract guitar shapes and 12/8 polyrhythms. The dense but dreamy production recalls peak Kate Bush. But where they really push things forward is their vocals, which careen through French, Spanish, and wordless yodels, whatever it takes for Quansah’s and Foinchas’ voices to express their spiritual and existential meditations. Check out the emotional range they project with just “la la la” on “The Maiden.” This is one area where Western music has played it very safe and conservative the past couple decades. I have to go back to Sheila Chandra’s ABoneCroneDrone (1996), Sussan Deyhim’s Madman of God: Divine Love Songs of the Persian Sufi Masters (2000), and Björk on Medúlla (2004) to find equally adventurous use of vocals in pop music. The Blinders - Beholder: Their previously raucous punk blues/garage psych sound get more brooding and menacing, like a mix of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds with the dark romance post-punk of Echo & the Bunnymen and late era Arctic Monkeys, but less loungey louche. At times Thomas Hayward brings to mind The Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser’ bruised soulfulness, while the band evokes some of the most evocatively cinematic crime noir atmospherics since Gallon Drunk and The Flaming Stars. Garage Noir | Garage Punk | Heavy Psych. RIYL: Echo & the Bunnymen, Nick Cave, Gallon Drunk, The Flaming Stars, The Walkmen, Arctic Monkeys, Fontaines D.C., Thus Love, The Buttertones. Mo Dotti - Opaque: Shoegaze, dream/noise/jangle pop from L.A. Whitelands - Night-Bound Eyes Are Blind to the Day: UK shoegaze. Coincidentally, they're the first band recommended on the Virgins Bandcamp page. Meatbodies - Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom: Garage Psych | Heavy Psych | Shoegaze | Noise Pop. RIYL Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Ty Segal, WAND, …Trail of Dead, The Black Angels Pøltergeist - Nachtmusik: Canadian metal dude discovers iscover 80s post-punk like The Chameleons and The Sound, and early goth (Sisters Of Mercy, The Mission) and dream pop (Cocteau Twins). Deadletter - Hysterical Strength: UK post-punk, art punk, jazz-rock, dance-punk. Hamish Hawk - A Firmer Hand: UK Singer-songwritter embraces post-punk, goth and glam, with a baritone like Peter Murphy. Ist Ist - Light a Bigger Fire: UK post-punk, darkwave, goth. Unto Others - Never, Neverland: Traditionally goth metal, there's more post-punk in their sound this time around. Smoke Bellow - Structurally Sound Memorials - Memorial Waterslides Desperate Journalist - No Hero Crumb - AMAMA Position Parallele - Aiguille a decoudre Ghostly Kisses - Darkroom The Resonars - Electricity Plus The Resonars is just #7 on my power pop list, but one of the few that is really full-on power pop, along with The Blank Tapes and Valley Lodge. My #1, White Denim - 12, only has fleeting power pop elements. I previously recommended my overall #2 pick The Sea Kings and #6 Ducks Ltd. It's pretty amazing that you got nearly 50 new albums -- would love to hear more about your discoveries when it's happening! I've also been diving into metallic goth like Neon Nightmare and Cemetery Skyline. SoftSun is shoegaze, but with a heavy doom element.
Hey there! You mentioned power pop and listed a few. Ahem - Avoider was one that was on my to-buy list that I didn't quite get to on time. It's great . I've already heard about half or slightly more of the albums you listed here. I love Ist Ist, but I couldn't quite get into this new one. I really love those first 2 or 3 LPs. The Mo Dotti is one that I want to buy a physical copy of in the future but didn't get to in time. The Resonars is one I will be looking into next! Thanks for your detailed descriptions, as always! I hope you had a wonderful holiday!
I totally agree with your assessment on Thus Love, I was obsessed with that first record. I think they just "rock" more live and wanted to represent that on the new album. I just feel that they are almost a different band now and perhaps that first outing was just a magical personal expression that made it out into the world that they will never deliver on again. We will just have to wait and see...but on another note who ever is booking and managing them seems to have them on a pretty solid trajectory, and with that I hope we see something more experimental and with more depth as they approach the 3rd album. Fingers 🤞
Hey Scott! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new Thus Love as well. I will always love them due to that incredible first offering. It is possible we may never get another like that. I'm thankful for it! Happy holidays!
Thanks, Kevin! I know I always appreciate knowing what genre an album is before I check it out, so I was happy to do that in this presentation, and I'm glad you approved! Happy holidays!
Thanks, Manur! Glad you can further explore 10 of these that I listed! I appreciate the recommendations in return! I haven't heard of those! I'm excited to listen to them! Happy holidays!
Definitely with you on quite a few of these but OMG yes yes yes to Weak Signal! I thought I was the only one who had them as one of my fave albums of 2024 (they're in my top 15). No Wolfgang Press? You're the one person I thought MIGHT have it as an honorable mention at least. Nice, dark, chill gothy/industrial lite comeback for them after 29 years away.
Hi! Love that you also knew about and love Weak Signal! We also bought their last album. What a band! I actually didn't know Wolfgang Press had a new album until I saw another best-of list! I was out of the loop with that one! Gotta immerse myself in that one! Thanks for the comment! Cheers!
Great list Hanna, lots to check out that were completely off my radar. Have you listened to Naima Bock? Her latest Below a Massive Dark Land is beautiful and enchanting. I’ll be posting about it on IG in the morning, but it is definitely a standout for me in 2024. Take care! Happy holidays!
Really enjoyed the new approach Hanna! Lots in here I've never heard of including one from my hometown in Leeds, UK - shame on me. Lots to look into which I'm going to do tonight because my 2 months free Apple Music expires tonight. I would also recommend To All Trains by Shellac, Wild God by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Bright Future by Adrienne Lenker, Patterns In Repeat by Laura Marling and my current obsession - The New Sound by Geordie Greep. Have a great Christmas and thanks for your recommendations.
Always an interesting list with many albums squarely in my wheelhouse. I bought about 40 new albums this year, not reissues, that was deeply I to shoesgave, dream pop and jangle pop. Blushing and High Vis are high on my list. I have bought a lot of great stuff out of Japan. Fuzz Club really took a lot of my money this year. Excellent year for music
Thanks so much for stopping by, Steve! I hope you're enjoying living in Colorado now. I certainly would rather live there! Ah, Fuzz Club is a terrific label. Glad Blushing and High Vis also are up there on your list! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Excellent choices, Hanna. Thanks for the recommendations. I have to check out a lot of these, but I truly enjoyed Songs of a Lost World by The Cure, which is the best album of the year, in my opinion.
Thanks, Allan! Great to find you here again! Yes, sometimes Songs of a Lost World is my #1, depending on the day! The Cure never seem to disappoint! Cheers!

Ah! I got one! Chime School! And a cool comeback album from Nada Surf! Otherwise these are all new to me. I'll try to sample a few. Thanks for the recap!
I both thank you and apologize 'cause this could get long. The Mt. Fog and particularly Molina fed my appetite for more experimental music as I've gotten older. I thought for a moment we were getting a cover of the dbs from Molina, lol. I've recently dipped into Mary Timony and Jessica Pratt; haven't gotten to this one by Mary but just listened to and loved "Here in the Pitch". Really dug the album by NewDad and liked your number 1, but I did find the vocals a little buried. Will check out that 'other' band from Cincinnati and many others here, and again thanks.
Thanks, a lot here for me to check out! I fell hard for the Deary album, it's just amazing. I also liked Sugarcoat by Blushing. both are on my list along with these top albums you may want to check out. Black Doldrums-In Limerence {postpunk' gothgaze} Draag - Actually the quiet is nice Julie - My anti-aircraft friend {Indie/ shoegaze} The Neverminds - Nevermind the winter (ep) Sunshy - I don't care what comes next {SP esque shoegaze} Verity Den S/T Somesurprises - Perseids {shoegaze psych} The Dharma Chain - Nowhere Happy holidays!
HI Rando! Are you on IG anymore? Gonna put out a 2024 best-of video? Ah, yep, I've heard many of those you listed. Was happy to have the return of Black Doldrums. Their Dead Awake LP was on my list a few years ago, I believe. I haven't heard of Verity Den or Dharma Chain, so I'll check those out! And I really was hoping for a vinyl release on that Draag EP. They are one of my favorite new-ish bands as of last year! Cheers, and I hope all is well!
Thanks, Dave! Just watched yours, too! We did indeed have a few overlaps. I really need to hear that new Buffalo Tom. I agree that the new Redd Kross is excellent! I'll be adding it to my collection one day. Cheers!
The Smile released 2 excellent albums in 2024 (called "Wall of Eyes" and "Cutouts")in followup to their wonderful debut album "A Light for Attracting Attention"
A lot of albums to explore here. My favorites of the year are: Songs of a Lost World - The Cure 66- Paul Weller Ship to Shore - Richard Thompson and Smoke and Fiction - X
Great picks, Chip! I just saw Paul Weller in Blitz! Excellent to see him in that! I will be checking out that new one from him as I'm behind! Love to see any love for X here! Cheers!
Hi Hanna ! My Top 3 of 2024 Bronze 🥉 - The Collective - Kim Gordon Silver 🥈 Wall Of Eyes - The Smile Gold 🏅 Songs Of A Lost World 🌎 - The Cure. Merry Christmas 🎅 & Happy New Year 😊 !
Hey David! Your top 3...most excellent! Thank you for sharing! I knew the Cure were your #1, and such a worthy #1 pick indeed! Merry Christmas to you, too!
Lots of stuff to check out that we’ve never heard of, you’re way more in tune with newer bands than we are! Anything on Trouble In Mind and Sonic Cathedral are always worth a listen. We posted our top 20 this morning. I thought our lists would have more in common, but we bought mostly “established” artists this year and fewer newer artists. We almost included the Church lp since it had a more official release this year, but we bought the cd last year on their US tour so considered it more of a 2023 release, could go in either year really! We did manage to squeeze the latest Kilbey/Kennedy lp into our list, so the Church are at least represented. Cheers!
I swear I will be catching up on some of your videos! I'm sorry I've gotten so behind on that. I can't wait to see your dynamic! Oh yes, Sonic Cathedral is one of my top labels! Looks like I will need to check out the latest Kilbey release. I missed that one! Thank you as always for your comments. ❤️ Happy New Year!
Have only heard of a few of these. Im going to have to check some if these out. i havent really gotten into or done deep dives on shoegaze or dream pop but im always trying to expand my listening brain into different genres even if i only like a couple bands from said genre. Your number ten made my list. Mary Timony record is very good. In no order- 2024 best albums i enjoy 1.Disco Biscuits-Revolution In Motion, 2. Lotus-How To Dream In Color, 3. Beebadoobee-This Is How Tomorrow Moves 4.Lawrence-Family Business, 5. David Gilmour-Luck & Strange 6.Johnnie Blue Skies-Passage Du Desir, 7. Smashing Pumpkins-Aghori Mhori Mei 8. Hi there, and thanks for watching this one! Wow, thanks for also providing your list! I haven't heard of many that are on yours, so I have some exploring to do! Be well!
Thank you for the time and work you've put into making the video. Thought 'Chime School' woul rate a bit higher... I quite enjoyed their album... the California 'Fannies'?
Holy moly---I had 2 of these and just added 21 on Tidal to listen to over the next 2 to 3 weeks I guess. Anything that says dream pop or shoegaze is gunna get me.
Thanks, Pete! So cool that you now have 21 more LPs to check out and listen to! should definitely keep your ears busy! I think I will always be obsessed with shoegaze! Hope all is well!
Unfamiliar with them, but thank you. I will check em out! That’s how it works here; I share my list, and in return I discover new stuff from all of your recommendations. 😊 Cheers to you!
The title of The Virgins album is intriguing. For example, "Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt" is from an image of a tombstone in Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. However, there are also albums by the band Spiritualized called "And Nothing Hurt", followed by "Everything Was Beautiful." Maybe Rebecca Dow took one or more of these and reworked it into the title of The Virgins album? Anyway, cool list. Thanks.
So glad to see The Church on your list. Great album, along with the companion release, The Hypnogogue. Also, not sure if you were aware, but the band, X also had a 2024 release. (Smoke and Fiction) Definitely much better than their previous album, Alphabetland.
Thanks so much for sharing this list. You have such great taste, which gives me confidence I'll find some real gems here. I just ordered the entire Chime School catalogue as well as the Virgins lp - only 9 copies left! Here's a question: is it hard to avoid making comparisons to 80's and 90's bands with Dream Pop and Shoegaze? The older I get, the harder it is to get that initial game-changing thrill from musical first loves. It's not about being original any more, but that doesn't mean the music can't be amazing.
Thanks for the warm words, Kevin! With shoegaze and dream pop, I guess it's hard to explain a band's sound without comparing them to their predecessors. It's hard to find something completely original anymore. Everything is influenced by something from the past, I suppose. I still think the best eras for music have already happened. That all being said, there really is so much amazing new music out there! Happy to read that you ordered some Chime School and that Virgins LP! The Virgins LP is also still available here for others who need it in the future: blowtorchrecords.bandcamp.com/album/nothing-hurt-and-everything-was-beautiful Cheers!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert you are so right. There is too much good new music out there to take in. I'm also going to order those Deary EPs' in the new year. Thanks for identifying categories for the bands you present. It's helpful. Also hope you've been keeping up with the Juliana Hatfield re-issues. The latest one, How to Walk Away, from 2004 is killer! Happy holidays!
My two favorite albums of this year are the debut of Laughing and the latest album of Misha Panfilov (To the Mesosphere). Give them a listen, you'll like them and tell me about them.
Thanks for listing your faves of the year. Wow, I was unfamiliar with Laughing, but I'm listening now. I'm getting some heavy Teenage Fanclub vibes! Brilliant! Will have to add it to my purchase list! Those you listed aren't really on any best-of lists that I've seen. Where do you primarily find new music? Cheers!
@TheOmahaIntrovert Here in Spain it is complicated, but thanks to the contacts I make through social networks I find things, friends from New Zealand, Canada, Australia, USA, Brazil, Wales, England, Holland... we share very cool records, then they tend to be a bit expensive because bringing them here to Spain is expensive, but they are worth it. So you can imagine that in my record collection there are many styles. Other records that I liked this year are those of Jim Nothing, Best Bets or Eggmen Whoooooo!. In any case, I always like to make a list like yours at the end of the year, which I will send you.
So happy to see NewDad mentioned! It's one of my favorites and it feels like it flew under the radar, maybe because of many other big artists releasing this year. I also have to somewhat agree with your thoughts on Thus Love's All Pleasure: love the first track so much, and side a kinda grew on me, but overall it's lacking the energy and songwriting of their debut :(
Lots of interesting albums for me to check out. I was only familiar with a few of them. The Nada Surf album is definitely one of their best. I'll have to give the Cure album another try. First time didn't do anything special for me.
Well, I have one record out of your best of 2024, Amyl and the Sniffers.. Have been listening to them a lot! I have a couple on your list I will be checking out.
Truly incredible list!
always a pleasure to watch your vids and discover bands i haven't heard of.hope you're having a happy holidays
Thank you, my friend! Hopefully there are plenty new releases here for you to check out further and enjoy! Happy holidays back to you!
Perfect timing Hanna! Leaving for my annual Christmas trip/ LA area record store tour. I'll sample the titles on this video and add any desired titles straight onto the buy list. Hope you have a Happy Holidays and thanks as always!
Thanks so much, Todd! Always love getting a comment from you! Enjoy your record store tour! Hope you get lots of goodies! Happy holidays!
nice format! good to see you here!
Thank you! Glad you liked the different format here!
Thanks so much! You help me discover so much new music. I'm gonna dive into this list and not come up for air for awhile!
I'm in the process of doing exactly the same thing.
Hey there, Russ! Always great to hear from you. Thanks! I hope you were able to come up for air by now! Hehe! I know there's a lot here. It certainly was a top-notch year for releases! Happy holidays!
Such a different list from all the samey ones out there! Thanks!
Thanks, Peter! I'm glad I was able to introduce a different crop than the mainstream! Cheers!
Merry Christmas and a happy new year. I miss seeing you.
Merry Christmas, Paul! Will be back in the New Year! Cheers!
Great list! You gave me more music to check out for sure. I have been obsessed with the High Vis album so much. I have probably listened to it at least 20 or 30 times since I got it.
I love when I think I've heard all of the best albums in a year and I get a whole bunch more I've never heard. Thank you for this feast.
That Hi Vis album is definitely on my top albums of the year list too! There are a lot on here I’m excited to try out. As always, thanks for sharing your great recs!
Right?! I'm mega excited to listen to their other releases! What a fab album! Cheers to you, and thanks for checking out my vid!
Need to rewatch when I have time and take some notes. Thanks.
Thanks! I hope some of these are winners for you after you check out further! Peace!
very cool intro/ new image. nice selections this year..every year i tell myself im gonna chill a little on buying more records..but nope. i keep buying. Have a great holiday season!
Thanks, Brian! Glad you enjoyed! And yes, the vinyl addiction is real...and strong! Haha! Happy holidays!
Thanks Hannah, amazing list. You introduced me to a Seattle band I have never heard of. Definitely checking them out. Cheers
Great video. I can't imagine how much time must have gone into making this. Much appreciated.
Excellent picks for your favorite albums of 2024, Hanna!
So happy to hear from you, Tony! Thanks! Merry Christmas!
Some fascinating releases here that I’ve definitely got to check out. 2024 has been another strong year for quality new records.
You are so right, Malcolm! It is hard to keep up with all the fantastic LPs released each year. Part of the fun, though. We're never bored! Cheers!
@ even at my age…I’m now a pensioner and because of your channel I’m discovering new and wonderful music!!
Aloha ,
Omaha introvert
Awesome format to showcase 46 record albums & Cd's in a minimal amount of time.
Hannah, thank you for the sub genres. Always great for myself to learn about new music 🎶 & bands.
Thanks again, looking forward to watching more of your videos.

the best record review i have seen yet , you killed it, the presentation is well thought out , the voice overs are my favorite part, the music selection is fantastic, some beautiful stuff here . 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Happy Holidays Hanna ! Thanks for all the effort you put into these - great to have one of the most authentic voices out there back on the scene again .
Gary, you are too kind! Thank you for the exceptionally kind comment. I enjoy putting out the videos when I can! See you next time! Happy holidays!
I just purchased Boy With Apple because of you. Big thanks. I wouldn't have known them if not for you. 😊
Oh, I'm so thrilled that you ordered Boy With Apple's LP! So damn good! Enjoy! ❤️ Happy holidays!
Thank you for mentioning the Messthetics!! Only creator on here who I’ve seen do so. That record is so killer. Mad underrated
Hi Brandon! Truth! It was just by chance that I discovered that Messthetics release, too! So thankful I did! It's fire! Cheers!
@ I saw them live a few months ago and they were mind blowing. Their other two records are really good too. Highly recommend
So rad you got a chance to see them! I'm jealous! I will definitely be checking out those other LPs! Thanks again!
enjoyed the format a lot! need to check out the fever haze album now (surprised i haven't since i used to intern for the label it came out on lol). i enjoyed the dummy album quite a bit, so i'm happy to see it here
I'm with you on the Thus Love LP.
Hi Hanna, congratulations by your video, cheers and happy xmas for you!!!!!
Cool list, heaps to checkout. Love Reds, Pink and didn’t realise they had an album out this year.
Happy Holidays from Austin Hanna. This was the stocking stuffer I needed to make sure I wasn't missing anything from 2024 (I was).
And happy holidays to you, too! Thanks you! Glad I was able to give you a few more ideas here!
Thank you
Aww, my pleasure! Thank you for watching!
Good thing I have a day off coming, I have a lot of new listening to do. Thanks Hanna.
Thanks, Edward! Happy exploring! There's lots here! Happy holidays!
There are so many bands to check out here so thanks. You missed The Lemon Twigs though 😊
Thanks for watching, David! Maybe I'll get some Lemon Twigs in my collection someday! Be well, and happy holidays!
Take care!
Honestly, I just leave it up to TH-cam's music Hannalgorithm to determine my tastes in modern music now. Never disappoints! 😊 Merry Christmas! 🎅🎄
Hehe! "Hannalgorithm!" I like that! So glad you enjoyed this video! Hope you had a most excellent Christmas, my friend!
Well done! I learned a lot by checking it out!
Cool! I'm so happy that you enjoyed this! Happy listening!
Hope you and Chris enjoyed yours.
gr8 video hanna...happy new year!
Hi Aron! Yes, I think I prefer Blushing's previous album a bit more, too, but this one doesn't disappoint! So glad you're here! Cheers!
A few albums I heard (and liked) in 2024:
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum: Of The Last Human Being
Shellac: To All Trains
Belly: 96 Miles To Bethlehem
Goat Girl: Below The Waste
High On Fire: Cometh The Storm
Chelsea Wolfe: She Reaches Out To She
Arooj Aftab: Night Reign
Blood Incantation: Absolute Elsewhere
I still have a good deal more to listen to, but that's what I have so far.
😎 Cheers-R
Great list!!!
My personal Top 3 Albums of 2024:
1. Frank Turner - “Undefeated”
2. Alkaline Trio - “Blood, Hair & Eyeballs”
3. Jack White - “No Name”
Thanks for sharing your list! Rock on, and happy holidays!
Wow ! lots here not on my radar and I thought I had a big radar.
Cheers.
so so much here that i've not heard of and will be checking out. will definitely be picking up that Kelly Moran album!
Hey Hanna! Absolute love this format of video! If I knew how to do it, I might copy you... 😄
Thank you for a great list showing a bunch of bands I have never heard off.
Be well!
Great Description of These Artists
Some great recommendations there. Your mention of the band The Sound has introduced me to their music. I'd never even heard of them before. I just bought From The Lion's Mouth on orange vinyl. What a fantastic album. I'm just waiting for the coloured vinyls of Jeopardy, All Fall Down and Heads & Hearts to arrive in the post. Thanks for the recommend.
Hi George! So glad that you got in on the Sound reissues! I got my reissue of Jeopardy, and it's excellent! Enjoy your spin time with the Sound! Cheers!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert Thanks, I'm looking forward to listening to them
Keen to listen to No.
Cheers!
Nice to see Clinic Stars Only Hinting on your list on my list as well and DIIV of course. Happy holidays.
We are on the same wavelength! Right on! Happy holidays, and thanks for chiming in here!
You've put together a great video. I've heard of some bands and am not familiar with others, but I'm looking forward to exploring. Appreciate your time.. Peace!!
So happy that I introduced you to some new releases here! What a great year for new tunes! Cheers!
great to see new dad up there. irush music rules. check out sprints and melts if you haven't already
Thanks!
If it's not too late, you should check out the new albums from:
- Fawning 'All Around Me' (DreamPop/Shoegaze)
- Prize Horse 'Under Sound' (Slowcore/Shoegaze)
- Nala Sinephro 'Endlessness' (Ambient Jazz/Electronic)
RIYL Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Ty Segal, WAND, …Trail of Dead, The Black Angels
Pøltergeist - Nachtmusik: Canadian metal dude discovers iscover 80s post-punk like The Chameleons and The Sound, and early goth (Sisters Of Mercy, The Mission) and dream pop (Cocteau Twins).
Deadletter - Hysterical Strength: UK post-punk, art punk, jazz-rock, dance-punk.
Hamish Hawk - A Firmer Hand: UK Singer-songwritter embraces post-punk, goth and glam, with a baritone like Peter Murphy.
Ist Ist - Light a Bigger Fire: UK post-punk, darkwave, goth.
Unto Others - Never, Neverland: Traditionally goth metal, there's more post-punk in their sound this time around.
Smoke Bellow - Structurally Sound
Memorials - Memorial Waterslides
Desperate Journalist - No Hero
Crumb - AMAMA
Position Parallele - Aiguille a decoudre
Ghostly Kisses - Darkroom
The Resonars - Electricity Plus
The Resonars is just #7 on my power pop list, but one of the few that is really full-on power pop, along with The Blank Tapes and Valley Lodge.
Fingers 🤞
I’m seeing them open for The Vaccines in January. Agree with you on the new lp.
Hey Scott! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new Thus Love as well. I will always love them due to that incredible first offering. It is possible we may never get another like that. I'm thankful for it! Happy holidays!
That Virgins record, WOW. Fantastic. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Happy Holidays Hanna.
You're very welcome! Glad you also are enjoying that Virgins album! Happy Holidays! Be well!
I really like how you listed the genre since I'm not familiar with most of these.
Thanks, Kevin! I know I always appreciate knowing what genre an album is before I check it out, so I was happy to do that in this presentation, and I'm glad you approved! Happy holidays!
Thank you for this list, I now have more than 10 new albums to explore !

Black Doldrums-In Limerence {postpunk' gothgaze}
Draag - Actually the quiet is nice
Julie - My anti-aircraft friend {Indie/ shoegaze}
The Neverminds - Nevermind the winter (ep)
Sunshy - I don't care what comes next {SP esque shoegaze}
Verity Den S/T
Somesurprises - Perseids {shoegaze psych}
The Dharma Chain - Nowhere
Happy holidays!
Interesting list. We had a couple of overlaps.
Thanks for watching my video and sharing your thoughts! Cheers!
A lot of albums to explore here. My favorites of the year are: Songs of a Lost World - The Cure
66- Paul Weller
Ship to Shore - Richard Thompson
and
Smoke and Fiction - X
Great picks, Chip! I just saw Paul Weller in Blitz! Excellent to see him in that! I will be checking out that new one from him as I'm behind! Love to see any love for X here! Cheers!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert Have listened to and love the Heavy Heavy by the way.
Great round-up.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert Thanks Hannah and Happy New Year to you as well!
Have only heard of a few of these. Im going to have to check some if these out. i havent really gotten into or done deep dives on shoegaze or dream pop but im always trying to expand my listening brain into different genres even if i only like a couple bands from said genre. Hi there, and thanks for watching this one! Wow, thanks for also providing your list! I haven't heard of many that are on yours, so I have some exploring to do! Be well!
Cool video!! I like using Rate Your Music to find new stuff too! It’s my ritual to go down the list of new releases every Friday.
I appreciate reading that you liked my video! Thanks! Rate Your Music is definitely a top site! See you next time!
Hope all is well!
ahh, was hoping to see King Hannah, Big Swimmer. Nice presentation, interesting list.
So glad you found the list interesting! Cheers, and happy holidays!
Cool new vid style. Happy we still live in a time where The Cure are still making music!
Thanks for the comment, and I'm so happy you enjoyed this format! Yes, we were really blessed with this new Cure LP! Cheers!
Buenas música para relajarse según sea el gusto
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you!
Great video. What? No Courettes? Have a great Christmas and New Year.
Thanks.
Have a great Christmas / NY Hanna! Hope Santa leaves something 12"-sized under your tree 😀
Right on! Already got a couple of R.E.M. reissues I was wanting at a gift exchange. ❤️ Merry Christmas! Hope you have a wonderful holiday!
So glad to see The Church on your list. Great album, along with the companion release, The Hypnogogue.
Also, not sure if you were aware, but the band, X also had a 2024 release. (Smoke and Fiction)
Definitely much better than their previous album, Alphabetland.
Merry Christmas Hannah
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas! Happy New Year!
The Virgins LP is also still available here for others who need it in the future: blowtorchrecords.bandcamp.com/album/nothing-hurt-and-everything-was-beautiful
Cheers!
My two favorite albums of this year are the debut of
Laughing and the latest album of Misha Panfilov (To the Mesosphere).
Great list! Have you heard the Miki Berenyi Trio? They have a 10" ep of Lush covers. It's great! Her post Lush reunion band Piroshka was also great.
Well, I have one record out of your best of 2024, Amyl and the Sniffers.. Have been listening to them a lot! I have a couple on your list I will be checking out.
