The original Jak writters are gone. They probably have no idea where to take the series. Jak has heavy lore so not just anyone can pick it up and continue it corectly

I do agree that Gol or Maya could be the villains of the story, but I think I’d rather see more of the Dark Makers or have Jak finally take the up the offer from the Precursors to help out other places. **Jak Spoiler Alerts for the few people who might not have played the games** As someone who played and honestly likes the Jak games (apart from Lost Frontier) I honestly felt the writing was decent but a little bit rushed which is also part of the reason so many people want a sequel; to fill in the plotholes. Admittedly there's only really 2 significant plotholes that spring to mind: Which Mar is Jak (is he some kind of descendent to the founder of Haven City or does he, at some point in his life, go back in time and grow up to become the founder of Haven City)? And who exactly is The Explorer (I know he's Jak's uncle but...well...is he really? And if so, what is his connection to Damas, and why and how did he get sent back in time)? Granted, the whole Mar thing was probably intended to be a tease to the audience but the thing with The Explorer feels like a side effect of the writers suddenly deciding to make Damas Jak's father.

But I hate when they have to make gameplay "realistic". Like CSGO and Valorant with their slow upon hit, or how fast you die in CoD. Its the most annoying thing ever and I dont play games to be realistic.
I think The Last of Us Part 2, mostly, showed how tired the Naughty Dog community is of realistic, story driven, linear games. We miss the days where "fun" was a word Naughty Dog used, basically. I've been waiting for Naughty Dog to return to their roots, almost as long as Kingdom Hearts fans (myself included) were waiting for KH3.

The problem is the ND is stuck in trying to be more cinematic and more realistic games, but Jak's games are made to be a made in a cartoon/anime art style, with a platformer/shooter gameplay, along with a great story backing it up. Seeing what ND did to the Last of Us I don't want Jak's legacy to fall any further than it already has due to the Last Frontier.

@@firionkaiser8291 I'd argue the sequel improved on many flaws on the original. The combat and AI of the original is nothing compared to the sequel, the story is more than a ripoff of the the Road. Plus it uses the context of the original to explore the characters a lot more

and that was because they barely put effort into the “HD Digital release” on the PSN like come on i seen the gameplay of the ps4 ports on the ps5 and it makes the ps3 release look like its on a $3,000 gaming pc!
i mean lag, lighting, bugs, limited movement really hurt the fans who wanted an authentic experience but got a half assed one instead and as a fan who grew up with the series it makes me sad.

When i first saw Nefarious City, my first thought was "Probably gonna be the closest we're gonna get to a Next-Gen Haven City" Don't get the "grown up games" argument considering the topic, themes and writing of Jak 2 especially. Heck, Just watching the cutscenes is still a good time, Story still holds up
To those that haven’t heard the entire interview between Evan Wells and Ted Price, give it a listen. Transcriptions are nice, but only by listening to the source can you get all the context and attitude of what is being said. Evan Wells is an OG Naughty Dog, just like Ted Price is an OG Insomniac. But now their roles are completely different and they don’t have hands on their games anymore. They have to run their companies and trust others to make the games. So even though Evan Wells says he wishes they were working on a new Jak and Daxter, that is his personal opinion and because those were games he also worked on, of course he would have a soft spot for the series. The same can’t be said for everyone else at Naughty Dog. We are fortunate Insomniac is large enough to make multiple games at a time. Part of that being they have two studios, one on each coast in the US, so it makes sense to split up projects that way. Naughty Dog I think only has one location. Same with Sucker Punch. It can be expensive running two separate offices and teams, but it’s also risky putting all your eggs in one basket. Especially if that basket of eggs took years to make. But the reward can be great if it’s a hit. In conclusion, though Evan Wells says he wishes they were making a new Jak and Daxter, he’s not in any position to make it happen. He let’s the team do what they want to do, which for them and the games they make is great, but for Jak and Daxter fans, they are SOL.
True, you can't force anything on your team, and at the end of the day, it's ultimately up to Sony, they own the IP, ND doesn't want to do it, what Vi said is right, another studio can come over and ask Sony to let them tackle The series, and I'm not against it either, but I understand why everyone,(well almost everyone) is afraid, over the fact that will it be a Jak game that we know? What if it bombs? Is the time right? But then again, letting your fears get the best of you, can/will always prevent you from achieving greater goals in life, fear always stagnates, but faith in what you are doing always perseveres and overcomes that fear. It's like that old saying in life, when you're afraid of doing something you really desire to do, that's when you know what you're doing is right. Now same can't be attributed to ND, since they sincerely feel like they're not up for it, and I respect their own decision, but like what Vi had said in the video, what Rift Apart looks like, is what a modern day J&D can look like, the only thing that matters is that, that love for the series is there and the studio has a education on the series.

No, tonally and mechanical those two studios have 2 different philosophies when it comes to their platformers. You see that with R&C after the PS2 generation where they try to ape the style of writing when it comes to world building, but completely losses the personality that makes these characters who they are. What R&C is today is still good but compare the original trilogy’s writing to the current series. It’s like comparing Dreamworks to Pixar. And Jak tonallly doesn’t fit with Pixar style writing.
Jak & Dax were the videogame series of my childhood on PS2. They definitely deserve a new series run. Heck, even I have some good plot ideas for the sequel game after Jak X Combat Racing... Despite "issues" and all; there's still *SO MUCH* untapped potential for a new Jak & Dax series of games for sure.
What many people don't realize is that a lot of Studios that made their favorite games growing up. Are only the same in name and nothing more. Obsidian Studios has no original workers at it now. BioWare is another one. And of course naughty dog. I'm sure there's a lot more, but these are the main Studios people always talk about and demand they make a sequel to one of their older IPS.
Obsidian has 200 full time staff & the core creators always stayed since beginning only person whose left was Chris Avalone but that was more industry pushing him out than him actually leaving..
One of the biggest hurdles to overcome in making another Jak game is the fact that Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin (the original creators) neither work together nor with ND anymore. If they got the original voice cast, it would be perfect. The music changing when you hold a gun, the bad assery of Dark Jak. If only they knew how much people would immediately support the project. Please just give Dark Jak some focus 😭
Agreed. The 'original vision' would hang in the balance. Biggest fear of mine would be og vision, creativity < money. As well as pandering to politics. The 'easy' way, in my opinion, would be to give the Jak franchise a R&C treatment, along with adding in cut content and quality-of-life improvements (fps, checkpoint system, etc). I'm not holding my breath, though
I'd be down with this as well, I just hope they'd be able to expand upon the storylines of both series in a way that feels meaningful and not simply an extension for fans sake. Both Sly and Jak have the biggest emphasis on story and characters and for me, just finishing Rift Apart, I do feel like they could handle it but they gotta settle themselves into the mood of both series first. For example, the newer R&C games been lacking that Adult humor from the OG trilogy and Jak and Sly both are nothing but that lol

It’s what they should’ve done after Last of us 1. They went straight into part 2. They ended off on a high note and should’ve taken a risk with Jak. With something that hasn’t been around for ages, I’m pretty sure they’re afraid of everything. It is a true actual risk for profitability and good will of the community to just reboot Jak and Daxter. The outcome is unpredictable even with fans begging for it. Even without Rose colored glasses. Can you recreate what was the first 3 games? Can you improve upon the flaws and success? It’s quite a monumental task for them. And if you change all or even some of the voice actors it’ll never be the same. And that’s the problem. The new Jak will never be the same. And they need to find what they can add that’ll fill that void. The point of ratchet games are to show it’s ratchet and clank’s journey. And that’s what naughty dog need to understand. We don’t need a life lesson from Jak and Daxter. We want to see their journey once again in modern day.
Imagine if the series was as active as ratchet and clank and we had a second trilogy of games back in the ps3 era ending with a crack in time like epic jak game
Its like valve with half life three, it has been so long that they're afraid to dissapoint their fans. Imagine if Naughty dogs decided to make a new jak game with help from Insomniac games.
One thing to consider: Insomniac has been making Ratchet games all this time. And even though they changed in certain ways, well, they were still being made. After Jak 3 (and X), ND didn't make a game that's even similar in tone/gameplay. So ND might simply... not know how to make a Jak game anymore. Well, a Jak game that WE would like. Especially after things like The Last of Us 2. And, well, you know... sometimes it's just better to leave things be.
They are scared cause the original devs are now done with naughty dog and they may fear as they said when jak 4 was being developed it might be a disservice for the fans
We really need something like Jak and Daxter from them. After The Last of Us Part 2 we need a palette cleanser. Something more light hearted but still in depth with interesting story possibilities, which Jak 4 has many.
if you really think about it, this generation would be perfect for a new Jak and Daxter game. that being a continuation, reboot, or a ground up remaster. and honestly, if naughty dog isnt up for it, i would love to see insomniac games tackle a jak and daxter game. i mean those models in rift apart alone prove they are more than capable of delivering a true Jak and Daxter revival of some kind.

I did some research and out of 200+ people, JAK 2 is the favourite of the community! I guess this is a scenario kinda similar to sly cooper. If we get a new Jak & Daxter game, I want it to be from Naughty Dog!!
I just hope if it gets done that Jak controls the same. Jak's controls were the most responsive, fluid, direct that ive felt in a videogame. Jak and Daxter (together with Kingdom hearts) was my first game and no movement from any other game came ever close to the same quality as Jak.
Well, looking at Rift Apart for inspiration, ND could pull it off, it has the right amount of cartooness/humor, with the serious tone of a story that IG is known for nowadays. Jak & Daxter can stay the way it was, way back in the 2000s, updated visuals, new engine of course and style, but at the same time, staying true to the series, lore, characters, and events that happened. Whether Lost Frontier gets recton or ommited (just have it continue where Jak X left off) all together, is up to ND if they really want to continue the series on. I rather not that the series gets rebooted, starting over from scratch isn't really a big deal, it can lead to new innovations and story telling, adding new things to a rewritten lore, but having already established lore, I rather things get recton and then move on, that's just me imo. Crash 4 is another example at remaining faithful to a series while showing fans, _"we're doing new things now, we're taking new things into perspective and we're walking in a new direction, that'll please long time fans, as well as be playable for new comers"._

I feel like we’ve collectively gotten over the novelty idea of realism in video games. It was cool for a while seeing how close to reality we can get with modern technology, but then we realized that reality kinda sucks, and seeing beautiful fictional worlds is far more interesting and fun. That’s why I think (and hope) that we’re finally moving back into stylized video games.
Even after all these years I'm still wanting a new Jak and Daxter ,but all hope is gone by now , deep down I'm always wishing for one naturally but🤷🏻♂️ If and when it returns I'll be in full support. 🙌🏻😊
I want to say, from Jak and Daxters very beginning, it was always chasing trends. We laugh at the Jak 4 concept art, but it's completely on brand for the series to completely uproot itself to change with what the market demands. Just like Jak 2 did. They just had the foresight to realize when the market they were so desperately chasing finally outpaced what fans were willing to accept.
Child Jak from jak 2 was taken to the past with young samos just like the main protagonist Jak They can start with a fresh story with THAT Jak since it would be a separate timeline. It would be kind of like a soft reboot but not really It can work well and will add to the lore of the Jak universe

Here’s some pertinent info: The Lost Frontier’s story was written by Neil Druckmann himself. Not only was the story in this game widely panned, but it does feature Keira developing into a green eco sage at the end of the game. I would say it’s safe to assume that a Jak game’s story under Druckmann’s watch would feature the “strong woman” archetype for Keira at the very least, and I’m sure this theme would be more heavily pushed considering how bold Druckmann has gotten with his political agendas over the years. I mean, I _could_ see Keira following in the footsteps of her father, but I know that Druckmann would take the idea and run wild with it thinking “Ooh! Let’s have a scene where Keira asserts herself and stands up to some mansplainers!” and “Ooh! Let’s have a scene that’ll make Keira become a symbol of the #MeToo movement!” Besides, Druckmann already tried and failed to make a Jak 4 entry in the series, so why should anyone trust him to take the helm on a hypothetical second attempt at Jak 4? He IS the VP at Naughty Dog, so it’s impossible to have ND make a Jak title without any of his influence…

Seeing what Insomniac was capable of in Rift Apart with Jak and Sly cameos, i'd like Naughty Dog to give Insomniac their approval or blessing to make a new Jak & Daxter game, in PS1/PS2 era the two studios were on very good terms, maybe that's still the case
Hm, the thought you bring up about Naughty Dog being afraid to tackle another Jak and Daxter game, with a possibility that the studio might not be able to deliver a Jak and Daxter game. The way I see it, it could be that they aren’t sure if they can pull off another good installment in the series, especially since it’s been a while since the last game they made. I guess it would be tough if I was to be in that situation, but yeah. Who knows for sure what the true fate for the Jak and Daxter games will be. It would be nice if they did make another game. I’ve never played this game series, so I’ll have to dive into it one day

A part of me feels like the people working at Naughty Dog now have never even played Jak, or at least nothing beyond Precursor Legacy and like any veterans have forgotten anything beyond Precursor Legacy. The comments about tone, maturity and storytelling they've made over the past couple of years have had me painfully facepalm thinking, "Have you ever even watched the cutscenes of two and three? Do you even know the basic synopsis of their plots?" Three out of six games were rated T. Like come on guys...
Another thing to add, the new J&D game can take notes from Biomutant and add skill trees, Jak's other Eco powers needs to make a comeback! New weapons would be awesome, I always believed that Jak's Eco guns replace his other Eco powers, since every gun, especially in color represents those powers. Jak has already proven he's a natural, if not a master at channeling Eco, having already control over Light and Dark Eco, it would be fresh to bring back his old powers and mix things up, Jak would be a powerhouse, plus with new bad guys and factions, he's gonna need all help he can get. It'll be like IG Spider-Man game, everyone can make and play as the Jak they want. Gol and Maya should return, since it was hinted in TPL, that they probably survived, the dark eco could had preserve them and made them stronger, the game can have them either working with or against the dark makers and the metal heads over the control of the universe. Which also brings up another idea, Jak could travel to different planets R&C style, with ship battles and space travel, with other worlds in danger, Jak and Daxter need to travel in order to save them, plus I think we've just been through the nameless One, throughout the series, there so many directions the game can go in.
I wonder if (RA spoilers) the Jak & Daxter references in Rift Apart will get people talking about Jak and Daxter again and maybe ask for it to return somehow ? It probably could help make ND make the decision to bring it back or not.
At this point, I don't know if I'd want it. I'm nervous that it would be too different from the old games and that the current team wouldn't understand the world enough. But if done right, it could be amazing and revive the fandom.
I think a safe way for naughty dog to push themselfs to make another entry would be led another studio remake the trilogy and see how well is received in the modern era. Not changing the story but maybe expanding it and adding some stuff to the open world to not just being a place where it's only use is to travel from mission to mission , also maybe adding more depth to the dark and light powers
Very well done video! I think another part as well, is the fact both Games were very different to each other. One old school 3D Platforming and another which was inspired by multiple genres - even GTA. I'm playing and enjoying Yooka Laylee atm, so I'm currently biased and would love a remake of the first J & D Game for it's platforming goodness ^__^
Naughty Dog has been centred on their games being set in the real world since Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and, as was clearly shown in their concept art for their planned Jak sequel/reboot, they never really got out of that headspace. The Jak games have always been set in a world that's almost like a simpler version of the worlds you see in Final Fantasy (with Jak II being more akin to Final Fantasy VII) whilst the Uncharted games are basically just the Indiana Jones films if they were set in the modern day and The Last of Us games are just flat out based on zombie apocalypse films (the infected might not be zombies but they sure act like them). If Naughty Dog wants to make another Jak game then they have to feel absolutely sure that the game they make feels like a Jak game and not some third party's attempt at a Jak game, and at the moment they just don't feel like that. Personally I think Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin were the ones who knew how to bring the fantasy elements to the Jak games, and I suspect Amy Hennig played a big part in this as well, but I reckon Naughty Dog could find a new team of writers and directors if they needed to. As for why I'm not bringing up the social political themes in Druckmann's games; it's partly because they feel irrelevant to my point but also because I hate political discussions on the internet; it just feels like I'm listening to one group make a point, followed by another group supposedly proving it wrong, followed by the first group supposedly proving the latter group's point wrong, and then the same thing just recurs forever with no end in sight and both sides feeling either more depressed, more angry, or even more smug, whilst I'm just stuck here feeling more confused and occasionally getting insulted for feeling confused which further increases my confusion. Basically, until I've found a person that can explain the stances of all the parties involved in this everlasting argument without trying to steer me towards joining whichever side they're a part of, I'm just keeping out of it.

Not least because Insomniac actually had some involvement in the development of the Jak games and, I assume, are still best buddies with Naughty Dog. Either that or get a wildcard involved (a wildcard being either a random first party developer or even a barely known developer that's starting to make good tracks).
Good thing to hear not only that I would love to see Jack and Dexter and VR mode psvr mode. I want to be behind the eyes of Jack and his badass guns or either that be behind the eyes of the elf avatars we managed to make ourselves? Help they should call it Jack and Dexter Origins with psvr mode on their side. Or either that just Jack 4 with psvr mode on their side? It shouldn't be that hard at all don't you think?
An interesting idea for a side game based around the world of the first game: A Jak and daxter game based on where and how they got the rift gate and car thing back to the lab in sand over village. Maybe have Samosa and Kila as playable characters like how daxter was in jak 2 and 3. I just don't think the rift gate were what was behind the door in the first game. I think they're might had one last adventure before being sent to the future. If a new game looks like the first game. I am not saying just to have a happy tone but maybe well boulance it could reach a larger audience.
Even in the past I'm pretty sure it was mentioned that the main reason why they didn't keep at Jak and Daxter was because the writers at the time felt that Jak's story was complete and any attempts to lengthen it would result in a poorly driven story. If they want to continue Jak and Daxter, a fresh new idea would have to come to light. Especially considering we know what Jak's fate is supposed to be.

I swear every time a new Uncharted was announced I was just like OMG. Also its great they canceled Druckmans reboot of Jak that would have been so fucked. I swear Druckman just wants to ruin franchises. He didn't get to do it to Jak but eventually did to Last of Us. What a parasite.
@@Reigndolph It doesn't work like that another studio cannot simply "work" on an IP owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment if a third party studio must be contracted to do so otherwise such a project will not be made
I hope I am not getting controversial if I say this, but… I want them to work on Jak & Daxter again, I miss the old days of Naughty Dog when they Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter, and Ratchet and Clank’s success led the series to keep going, while Jak and Daxter has a short lifespan and while Sly Cooper got a little bit of a lifespan. I would like them to improvise and remaster the series, and if they can, make a fourth entry, make the art and graphics appealing, not TOO real, a interesting story, and maybe gameplay that is cool and reminds you about Jak 2 and 3 in the same time. But I want someone else to direct the story for that game, not Neil Drunkmann, I feel Neil did a great job on The Last of Us, but Part 2, in my opinion, the story and the pacing of the game is very… BAD, it has a few parts that are good, but I feel like Neil and Naughty Dog are trying to catch the lightning in the bottle that is TLOU 1, but failed upon reaching the finish line, there was potential for the sequel to do good, but it wasn’t there, if you like part 2, it’s fine, but I feel like TLOU 2 is a step down from the first one. Jak & Daxter needs a new director, it needs a person that can redeem and revive the franchise, not Neil, I feel like he’s going to make it sloppy and too REAL with the graphics, I think it’s time for Naughty Dog to return to their good ol’ days. Once it returns we can have Ratchet and Clank Easter eggs, nods to the original Jak and Daxter, and so many PlayStation Easter Eggs, and so much more, once that step is taken, we can have Jak and Daxter again.
Your not being controversial your just voicing your opinion it’s just some people can’t handle the idea that they’re people that played part 2 and didn’t think it was a 10/10 masterpiece and most people that do are quick to shame and label you as just a hater who didn’t play the game. For me the gameplay was neet but not munch new was added it just felt more of the same for me and the story was a big step down compared to the original not the remastered THE ORIGINAL. cause in the original there was this one thing a recorder you could find that blatantly said there was others like Ellie and if you found that recording it changed the whole ending if you found it Joel was telling the truth and protecting Ellie from becoming just another failure by a group that clearly had no idea what they where doing. But if you didn’t he was lying and only saving her for his own selfish reason. And even if you did find it who’s to say Ellie believes you I also believe part one handled the LGBT community perfectly with bill unlike part 2 that shoves it in your face bill being homosexual is something you wouldn’t know unless you found a note left for him and even when you find it you just think “oh wow I didn’t know he was gay neet” it’s treated as another layer to his character don’t get me wrong the games good I just don’t believe it’s as good as people say it is. Also I found it weird that the recorder just disappeared of the face of the earth I mean you can’t find it anywhere not TH-cam not even a image of it you can find mention of it but that’s it.
As long as they keep the crude humor and awesome story then hella yea. No woke weak minded dialogue preachy bullshit. Strong female leads were already in the game. Diverse characters not forced is what is needed
The original Jak writters are gone. They probably have no idea where to take the series. Jak has heavy lore so not just anyone can pick it up and continue it corectly

I do agree that Gol or Maya could be the villains of the story, but I think I’d rather see more of the Dark Makers or have Jak finally take the up the offer from the Precursors to help out other places. **Jak Spoiler Alerts for the few people who might not have played the games** As someone who played and honestly likes the Jak games (apart from Lost Frontier) I honestly felt the writing was decent but a little bit rushed which is also part of the reason so many people want a sequel; to fill in the plotholes. Admittedly there's only really 2 significant plotholes that spring to mind: Which Mar is Jak (is he some kind of descendent to the founder of Haven City or does he, at some point in his life, go back in time and grow up to become the founder of Haven City)? And who exactly is The Explorer (I know he's Jak's uncle but...well...is he really? And if so, what is his connection to Damas, and why and how did he get sent back in time)? Granted, the whole Mar thing was probably intended to be a tease to the audience but the thing with The Explorer feels like a side effect of the writers suddenly deciding to make Damas Jak's father.
Its kinda needed from their company in my opinion. The realistic approach of their games is being over done id say

I think The Last of Us Part 2, mostly, showed how tired the Naughty Dog community is of realistic, story driven, linear games. We miss the days where "fun" was a word Naughty Dog used, basically. The problem is the ND is stuck in trying to be more cinematic and more realistic games, but Jak's games are made to be a made in a cartoon/anime art style, with a platformer/shooter gameplay, along with a great story backing it up. Seeing what ND did to the Last of Us I don't want Jak's legacy to fall any further than it already has due to the Last Frontier.

To those that haven’t heard the entire interview between Evan Wells and Ted Price, give it a listen. Transcriptions are nice, but only by listening to the source can you get all the context and attitude of what is being said.
Evan Wells is an OG Naughty Dog, just like Ted Price is an OG Insomniac. But now their roles are completely different and they don’t have hands on their games anymore. They have to run their companies and trust others to make the games.
So even though Evan Wells says he wishes they were working on a new Jak and Daxter, that is his personal opinion and because those were games he also worked on, of course he would have a soft spot for the series. The same can’t be said for everyone else at Naughty Dog.
We are fortunate Insomniac is large enough to make multiple games at a time. Part of that being they have two studios, one on each coast in the US, so it makes sense to split up projects that way. Naughty Dog I think only has one location. Same with Sucker Punch.
It can be expensive running two separate offices and teams, but it’s also risky putting all your eggs in one basket. Especially if that basket of eggs took years to make. But the reward can be great if it’s a hit.
In conclusion, though Evan Wells says he wishes they were making a new Jak and Daxter, he’s not in any position to make it happen. He let’s the team do what they want to do, which for them and the games they make is great, but for Jak and Daxter fans, they are SOL.
True, you can't force anything on your team, and at the end of the day, it's ultimately up to Sony, they own the IP, ND doesn't want to do it, what Vi said is right, another studio can come over and ask Sony to let them tackle The series, and I'm not against it either, but I understand why everyone,(well almost everyone) is afraid, over the fact that will it be a Jak game that we know?

No, tonally and mechanical those two studios have 2 different philosophies when it comes to their platformers. You see that with R&C after the PS2 generation where they try to ape the style of writing when it comes to world building, but completely losses the personality that makes these characters who they are.
What R&C is today is still good but compare the original trilogy’s writing to the current series.
It’s like comparing Dreamworks to Pixar. And Jak tonallly doesn’t fit with Pixar style writing.

One of the biggest hurdles to overcome in making another Jak game is the fact that Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin (the original creators) neither work together nor with ND anymore.

I'd be down with this as well, I just hope they'd be able to expand upon the storylines of both series in a way that feels meaningful and not simply an extension for fans sake. Both Sly and Jak have the biggest emphasis on story and characters and for me, just finishing Rift Apart, I do feel like they could handle it but they gotta settle themselves into the mood of both series first. For example, the newer R&C games been lacking that Adult humor from the OG trilogy and Jak and Sly both are nothing but that lol

It’s what they should’ve done after Last of us 1. They went straight into part 2. They ended off on a high note and should’ve taken a risk with Jak. With something that hasn’t been around for ages, I’m pretty sure they’re afraid of everything. It is a true actual risk for profitability and good will of the community to just reboot Jak and Daxter. The outcome is unpredictable even with fans begging for it. Even without Rose colored glasses. Can you recreate what was the first 3 games? Can you improve upon the flaws and success? It’s quite a monumental task for them. And if you change all or even some of the voice actors it’ll never be the same. And that’s the problem. The new Jak will never be the same. And they need to find what they can add that’ll fill that void. The point of ratchet games are to show it’s ratchet and clank’s journey. And that’s what naughty dog need to understand. We don’t need a life lesson from Jak and Daxter. We want to see their journey once again in modern day.

One thing to consider: Insomniac has been making Ratchet games all this time. And even though they changed in certain ways, well, they were still being made. After Jak 3 (and X), ND didn't make a game that's even similar in tone/gameplay. So ND might simply... not know how to make a Jak game anymore. Well, a Jak game that WE would like. Especially after things like The Last of Us 2.
And, well, you know... sometimes it's just better to leave things be.
They are scared cause the original devs are now done with naughty dog and they may fear as they said when jak 4 was being developed it might be a disservice for the fans

Well, looking at Rift Apart for inspiration, ND could pull it off, it has the right amount of cartooness/humor, with the serious tone of a story that IG is known for nowadays.
Jak & Daxter can stay the way it was, way back in the 2000s, updated visuals, new engine of course and style, but at the same time, staying true to the series, lore, characters, and events that happened.
Whether Lost Frontier gets recton or ommited (just have it continue where Jak X left off) all together, is up to ND if they really want to continue the series on.
I rather not that the series gets rebooted, starting over from scratch isn't really a big deal, it can lead to new innovations and story telling, adding new things to a rewritten lore, but having already established lore, I rather things get recton and then move on, that's just me imo.
Crash 4 is another example at remaining faithful to a series while showing fans, _"we're doing new things now, we're taking new things into perspective and we're walking in a new direction, that'll please long time fans, as well as be playable for new comers"._

I feel like we’ve collectively gotten over the novelty idea of realism in video games. It was cool for a while seeing how close to reality we can get with modern technology, but then we realized that reality kinda sucks, and seeing beautiful fictional worlds is far more interesting and fun. That’s why I think (and hope) that we’re finally moving back into stylized video games.
Crash, Spyro, Rift Apart. They all prove that WE CRAVE cartoony games.

I want to say, from Jak and Daxters very beginning, it was always chasing trends. We laugh at the Jak 4 concept art, but it's completely on brand for the series to completely uproot itself to change with what the market demands. Just like Jak 2 did. They just had the foresight to realize when the market they were so desperately chasing finally outpaced what fans were willing to accept.

Here’s some pertinent info: The Lost Frontier’s story was written by Neil Druckmann himself. Not only was the story in this game widely panned, but it does feature Keira developing into a green eco sage at the end of the game.
I would say it’s safe to assume that a Jak game’s story under Druckmann’s watch would feature the “strong woman” archetype for Keira at the very least, and I’m sure this theme would be more heavily pushed considering how bold Druckmann has gotten with his political agendas over the years.
I mean, I _could_ see Keira following in the footsteps of her father, but I know that Druckmann would take the idea and run wild with it thinking “Ooh! Let’s have a scene where Keira asserts herself and stands up to some mansplainers!” and “Ooh! Let’s have a scene that’ll make Keira become a symbol of the #MeToo movement!”
Besides, Druckmann already tried and failed to make a Jak 4 entry in the series, so why should anyone trust him to take the helm on a hypothetical second attempt at Jak 4? He IS the VP at Naughty Dog, so it’s impossible to have ND make a Jak title without any of his influence…

Seeing what Insomniac was capable of in Rift Apart with Jak and Sly cameos, i'd like Naughty Dog to give Insomniac their approval or blessing to make a new Jak & Daxter game, in PS1/PS2 era the two studios were on very good terms, maybe that's still the case

Hm, the thought you bring up about Naughty Dog being afraid to tackle another Jak and Daxter game, with a possibility that the studio might not be able to deliver a Jak and Daxter game. The way I see it, it could be that they aren’t sure if they can pull off another good installment in the series, especially since it’s been a while since the last game they made. I guess it would be tough if I was to be in that situation, but yeah. Who knows for sure what the true fate for the Jak and Daxter games will be. It would be nice if they did make another game. I’ve never played this game series, so I’ll have to dive into it one day

A part of me feels like the people working at Naughty Dog now have never even played Jak, or at least nothing beyond Precursor Legacy and like any veterans have forgotten anything beyond Precursor Legacy. The comments about tone, maturity and storytelling they've made over the past couple of years have had me painfully facepalm thinking, "Have you ever even watched the cutscenes of two and three? Do you even know the basic synopsis of their plots?"

Another thing to add, the new J&D game can take notes from Biomutant and add skill trees, Jak's other Eco powers needs to make a comeback!
New weapons would be awesome, I always believed that Jak's Eco guns replace his other Eco powers, since every gun, especially in color represents those powers.
Jak has already proven he's a natural, if not a master at channeling Eco, having already control over Light and Dark Eco, it would be fresh to bring back his old powers and mix things up, Jak would be a powerhouse, plus with new bad guys and factions, he's gonna need all help he can get.
It'll be like IG Spider-Man game, everyone can make and play as the Jak they want.
Gol and Maya should return, since it was hinted in TPL, that they probably survived, the dark eco could had preserve them and made them stronger, the game can have them either working with or against the dark makers and the metal heads over the control of the universe.
Which also brings up another idea, Jak could travel to different planets R&C style, with ship battles and space travel, with other worlds in danger, Jak and Daxter need to travel in order to save them, plus I think we've just been through the nameless One, throughout the series, there so many directions the game can go in.

At this point, I don't know if I'd want it. I'm nervous that it would be too different from the old games and that the current team wouldn't understand the world enough. But if done right, it could be amazing and revive the fandom.
I think a safe way for naughty dog to push themselfs to make another entry would be led another studio remake the trilogy and see how well is received in the modern era. Not changing the story but maybe expanding it and adding some stuff to the open world to not just being a place where it's only use is to travel from mission to mission , also maybe adding more depth to the dark and light powers
Current naughty dog probably couldn’t make a Jak game that lived up to the old ones tbh. They aren’t the same anymore since uncharted happened imo.

Very well done video! I think another part as well, is the fact both Games were very different to each other. One old school 3D Platforming and another which was inspired by multiple genres - even GTA. I'm playing and enjoying Yooka Laylee atm, so I'm currently biased and would love a remake of the first J & D Game for it's platforming goodness ^__^

Naughty Dog has been centred on their games being set in the real world since Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and, as was clearly shown in their concept art for their planned Jak sequel/reboot, they never really got out of that headspace. The Jak games have always been set in a world that's almost like a simpler version of the worlds you see in Final Fantasy (with Jak II being more akin to Final Fantasy VII) whilst the Uncharted games are basically just the Indiana Jones films if they were set in the modern day and The Last of Us games are just flat out based on zombie apocalypse films (the infected might not be zombies but they sure act like them). If Naughty Dog wants to make another Jak game then they have to feel absolutely sure that the game they make feels like a Jak game and not some third party's attempt at a Jak game, and at the moment they just don't feel like that. Personally I think Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin were the ones who knew how to bring the fantasy elements to the Jak games, and I suspect Amy Hennig played a big part in this as well, but I reckon Naughty Dog could find a new team of writers and directors if they needed to.
As for why I'm not bringing up the social political themes in Druckmann's games; it's partly because they feel irrelevant to my point but also because I hate political discussions on the internet; it just feels like I'm listening to one group make a point, followed by another group supposedly proving it wrong, followed by the first group supposedly proving the latter group's point wrong, and then the same thing just recurs forever with no end in sight and both sides feeling either more depressed, more angry, or even more smug, whilst I'm just stuck here feeling more confused and occasionally getting insulted for feeling confused which further increases my confusion. Basically, until I've found a person that can explain the stances of all the parties involved in this everlasting argument without trying to steer me towards joining whichever side they're a part of, I'm just keeping out of it.

@@VtnVivi I agree with the other commenter who suggested that Insomniac Games give it a try. Not least because Insomniac actually had some involvement in the development of the Jak games and, I assume, are still best buddies with Naughty Dog. Either that or get a wildcard involved (a wildcard being either a random first party developer or even a barely known developer that's starting to make good tracks).

Good thing to hear not only that I would love to see Jack and Dexter and VR mode psvr mode. I want to be behind the eyes of Jack and his badass guns or either that be behind the eyes of the elf avatars we managed to make ourselves? Help they should call it Jack and Dexter Origins with psvr mode on their side. Or either that just Jack 4 with psvr mode on their side? It shouldn't be that hard at all don't you think?
An interesting idea for a side game based around the world of the first game: A Jak and daxter game based on where and how they got the rift gate and car thing back to the lab in sand over village. Maybe have Samosa and Kila as playable characters like how daxter was in jak 2 and 3.
I just don't think the rift gate were what was behind the door in the first game. I think they're might had one last adventure before being sent to the future.

I could literally play Jak 2-3 over and over and over again I have and would do it again (Finished 2&3 both more than 10 times)
Even in the past I'm pretty sure it was mentioned that the main reason why they didn't keep at Jak and Daxter was because the writers at the time felt that Jak's story was complete and any attempts to lengthen it would result in a poorly driven story. If they want to continue Jak and Daxter, a fresh new idea would have to come to light. Especially considering we know what Jak's fate is supposed to be.
Jak 2’s setting is one of the coolest worlds in gaming history imo.

I hope I am not getting controversial if I say this, but…
I want them to work on Jak & Daxter again, I miss the old days of Naughty Dog when they Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter, and Ratchet and Clank’s success led the series to keep going, while Jak and Daxter has a short lifespan and while Sly Cooper got a little bit of a lifespan. I would like them to improvise and remaster the series, and if they can, make a fourth entry, make the art and graphics appealing, not TOO real, a interesting story, and maybe gameplay that is cool and reminds you about Jak 2 and 3 in the same time. But I want someone else to direct the story for that game, not Neil Drunkmann, I feel Neil did a great job on The Last of Us, but Part 2, in my opinion, the story and the pacing of the game is very… BAD, it has a few parts that are good, but I feel like Neil and Naughty Dog are trying to catch the lightning in the bottle that is TLOU 1, but failed upon reaching the finish line, there was potential for the sequel to do good, but it wasn’t there, if you like part 2, it’s fine, but I feel like TLOU 2 is a step down from the first one. Jak & Daxter needs a new director, it needs a person that can redeem and revive the franchise, not Neil, I feel like he’s going to make it sloppy and too REAL with the graphics, I think it’s time for Naughty Dog to return to their good ol’ days.
Once it returns we can have Ratchet and Clank Easter eggs, nods to the original Jak and Daxter, and so many PlayStation Easter Eggs, and so much more, once that step is taken, we can have Jak and Daxter again.
Your not being controversial your just voicing your opinion it’s just some people can’t handle the idea that they’re people that played part 2 and didn’t think it was a 10/10 masterpiece and most people that do are quick to shame and label you as just a hater who didn’t play the game. For me the gameplay was neet but not munch new was added it just felt more of the same for me and the story was a big step down compared to the original not the remastered THE ORIGINAL. cause in the original there was this one thing a recorder you could find that blatantly said there was others like Ellie and if you found that recording it changed the whole ending if you found it Joel was telling the truth and protecting Ellie from becoming just another failure by a group that clearly had no idea what they where doing. But if you didn’t he was lying and only saving her for his own selfish reason. And even if you did find it who’s to say Ellie believes you I also believe part one handled the LGBT community perfectly with bill unlike part 2 that shoves it in your face bill being homosexual is something you wouldn’t know unless you found a note left for him and even when you find it you just think “oh wow I didn’t know he was gay neet” it’s treated as another layer to his character don’t get me wrong the games good I just don’t believe it’s as good as people say it is.
Also I found it weird that the recorder just disappeared of the face of the earth I mean you can’t find it anywhere not TH-cam not even a image of it you can find mention of it but that’s it.
