    It’s crazy that people are *asking* for makeup trends to swing towards full coverage… it’s your face. Wear what you want on it!

    to answer your question about Black owned makeup brands…
    I’m not sure if the 2020 boom of their popularity was authentic in the first place. I said this when it happened and basically got kinda dragged 😭 but I said that because it’s not the first time Black owned brands experienced a massive social push like that… we saw it in 2016 when the BOMB challenge started….this mini documentary also kinda backs this up th-cam.com/video/MV4Nq1GaIAA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wmCQ8U1ldrHf8BDx
    Anywho that’s not the only issue, funding to maintain these brands is also crucial and just isn’t prioritized for a lot of brands in the investment world. As for me, my staples are still holding strong! I still incorporate Black owned makeup brands in my makeup routine and getting ready process every single time I do it because they’re reliable and good products period lol

    I know their brand was about "cake face" full beat they could've made lighter coverage things very simply staying in that bakery theme. just pivot to pastry because the whole lane that pastry occupies in baking is light, airy, creamy, whipped, dainty, FRENCH etc that could've EASILY been marketed into light coverage and dewy stuff. And we are absolutely going back to 2016 I saw someone doing fully body contour tutorial on TikTok.

      @Mochafairiemonster ปีที่แล้ว +23

      And this is where having forward thinking folks on your team that keep their finger on the pulse of trends can help your brand. It’s really hard to pivot if you don’t have someone asking what’s next and what’s new. What can we reformulate?

    And see why having an investor relations, communications and social media team matters. Very few founders know how to keep it cute, it’s their baby so it’s understandable but hire us. We don’t take things to heart like you

      @ninabeena83 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Preach. I remember when they first got popular I looked them up to see what they were hiring for since I was leaving another non-black owned brand…and got nowhere. Obviously the hype has died down but I just checked again and still nothing. Shame because I thought their overall concept was really cute and could’ve/should’ve been able to transition into the current aesthetic, like you and another commenter said (the pastry theme comment)

    Giiirrll. Your content is always right on time. As a full face matte girl I am sick of this "clean girl asthetic" I'm tired of looking at blochy, uncolor corrected, unblended looks with Full lashes. It just looks a mess. Especially, when the "no makeup" cost the same as "full coverage makeup and it takes almost the same amount of time! I do appreciate the focus on skincare and not feeling like being Instagram beat all the time but "no make up" is a lie! Beauty Bakeries products weren't matte they were Africa safaree dry and their products seemed to run wayyy to red. I feel with Black beauty brands besides the inital launch, their isn't innovation or a second launch bringing them to that sustainable level. They don't have the luxury of keeping up with trends and get stuck and forgotten. What happened to all the inclusivity for skin shades? DEI intiatives? Donating/Support for minority business? It's been hyjacted and agenda focus switched.

    I love their Cranberry Stiletto lip whip. They have a section in our Targets next to The Lip Bar, Black Radiance, and Luna Magic. The only part usually fully stocked are the lip whips. And the setting powders at Ulta, which were half off for the 21 days a beauty, which is what I bought last year during the sale. I didn’t know anything about the drama, just came upon them last year.

    I thought beauty bakerie was over priced for what the items were and the size at the time they came out. I never purchased for that reason. Now the prices are reasonable for the time so I might spin the block as an oily girl.
    I wish people did their makeup how they feel and not what tik tok said, its weird. I do think black owned makeup brands should, however, read the room and come out with innovative products. Juvias is like the only bob that is up on trends.

    As far as the current popular BOMBs Danessa Myricks has the world in a chokehold. I love Auntie Pat, but when are we gonna talk about how her foundation shades for women *who are her complexion* are just red and orange? BB had the whammy of several trash products and a few scandals

    I feel like Beauty Bakery is/was a one trick pony. The liquid lipstick was their most popular product and it seems like they didn't know what to do as makeup changed. Now I need a good lip liner and lipgloss for my lips no matter where I'm going. Some times the lipgloss had pigment in them. But the matte dry liquid lipsticks are over for me.

  • @Carpathianpixie
    @Carpathianpixie ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I feel like the blwck owned brands are not as popular because of accessibility. People want to go in stores and try products before buying them, especially for complexion products which is what a lot of us have trouble with.

  • @petrinegordon
    @petrinegordon ปีที่แล้ว +15

    But even when "cake face" was the makeup trend I still hardly heard about Beauty Bakerie, imo they always seemed to lack a good marketing team.
    As for people wanting makeup trends to switch back to "cake face" just wear YOUR makeup how YOU want. Why do makeup trends have to change for you to wear makeup how you like just do it! I personally love this era of soft and light makeup because I finally felt seen when it began. I never liked the overly baked faces and concealer that was 4 shades lighter it always looked like drag makeup to me. I learned how to do the base of my makeup from Jackie Aina's soft glam and reverse concealer and foundation video. I refused to learn the old way because the makeup was too heavy for me. But if makeup trends switch back to "cake face" I'm still going to wear my makeup soft because that's what I like and everyone else should do the same. Stop looking for trends to validate you just wear your makeup however you prefer.

    They have downsized. They phased out their last foundation a few months ago because it was too costly to continue making. People still use their powders and I honestly still use their liquid lipsticks. That is something I’d definitely repurchase from them still. In regards to that foundation that they made which was super matte, I actually some left and I use an oil based spf before applying it to help switch up the formula a bit and for more natural coverage.

      I feel like Too Faced is cater to little girls with rich families who are starting out at makeup and don’t want just the Sephora brand items. Just from my observation I’ve seen that they are close to the Sephora collection, and not many grown women are gathering there only 1 or 2 elementary school girls. And the way the packaged items for seasonal stuff look too. It seems kiddish to me. But that’s just my observation.

    The brand fell off for me personally because:
    1. Their original foundation was not good
    2. Their liquid lip did not work for me. It was a crumping disgusting mess
    3. Their palettes were not inspiring and their formulas were just meh
    4. The scandal with how they treated their employees also left a bad taste

ETA: and what happened with Father's Day? 😅 i don't follow makeup gossip like that outside of following you on yt. I am _that_ out of the loop. I only remember when Huda stole their baking labeling concepts.
    2. Only thing i bought from beauty bakerie was a mini liquid lipstick and it was on clearance on target. I need to put a liner for it to work and it's quite dry so I guess the no budge claim is legit!
    3. I'm kind of in the middle because i can't do sheer; I'm more of a buildable girl. But I lean to the abh brow look since i JUST started doing brows on my sparse brows. 😂 And i started to fall in love with eyeshadow and i experiment but not in public. 😂

    I tried like 4 things from Beauty Bakerie (the powder, the liquid lipstick, bronzer, and blush). I love the powder but there's not enough product for the price. I bought like 3 lipsticks at Target and I was highly disappointed with the quality. It was wayyyy too drying and the texture felt like glue on my lips. I've never tried liquid lipstick that was so sticky and hard to remove. I liked the bronzer/blush but it wasn't anything special. The bronzer really wasn't dark enough to bronze me so I used it as eyeshadow. Overall, I think if they had really listened to their customers/reviews they could have improved formulas and came back strong. Unfortunately, Cashmere seems like she's a little too headstrong to listen and that's her brands downfall.

    As for what happened to Black owned brands in general I think they lack the marketing to really get their products out there. I remember when the whole Pullup for change movement happened and everyone promised to hire more black people in their headquarters so we could have representation. Around that time Black owned brands started being promoted a lot more because it was just a trend. Unfortunately, that trend has ended and you hardly ever hear/see when brands do release new products. Mented has released several things and Coloured Raine just came out with foundation sticks a few months ago...I saw very few posts about their releases (the brands post regularly I'm talking about influencers). Maybe they lack the budget to properly promote themselves after the financial strain of COVID.

Blush, eyeshadow, and powder are great, I hope they continue to carry these things at target. The foundation and lip products not so much.

    I feel like UOMA beauty and Juvias place is still popular. I knew the push for black owned brands in 2020 was going to go just as soon as it came in because of how much it took for people to face the state of race in the present, including in beauty, where people have been vocal for years about issues. I agree that the aesthetic also changed, but is circling back to 2010s.

    What I noticed about beauty bakerie was the company missed the mark on color range for black women especially with their eyeshadow palettes. While the bakery theme is cute; I don’t believe it was enough to sustain them. I think the pandemic definitely did not help. I wasn’t aware of them interacting negatively with people on social media, but it definitely would put a damper on the business.

    Black folks only get 1 opportunity to prove themselves versus the man opportunities others are afforded.
    Black owned brands had their 1 shot in 2020, the ones who proven to be competitive with other indie and mainstream brands stuck around, the rest that weren't up to snuff went to the wayside.
    Promoting Black owned will guarantee a person buys once, the quality and performance makes repeat customers.

    The “No Makeup” use to simply be concealer, eyebrows, lip gloss/tint, a bit of blush. Now it’s look that actually has a long process. Your expected to apply dozens of skincare makeup serums, brushed up eyebrows with incredibly dripping dewy skin. The magic is gone. Trends are fine but now it’s only about trends. You’ll find a product you like and it’s discontinued a month later.

    But yes girl! Juvias, Mented, Range, Koyvoka, Prime, The Lip Bar, Black Opal, Coloured Raine, etc... 😢 I never hear about them anymore.

    There was a lot that went wrong with BB, I think. They didn't marhet themselves as much as they should have, they needed hero products aside feom the liquid lipsticks and setting powder, the eyeshadow palette wasn't talked about as much as it should have been and when they came out with bullet lipsticks, they were small and I didn't think it was worth the price, plus I wasn't looking for a matte lipstick at that time. Keeping up with trends doesn't mean forsaking all of the products that you had originally. Imagine how cute some BB glosses and single pan blushes would've been.

    Whenever this conversation "natural makeup vs full beat" comes up, the full beat girlies always come through like they CANNOT understand why anyone would want to wear makeup but not look like they're wearing makeup.
    Honey its called a different preference than yours, its not rocket science. We do not all like what you like nor should we. I wouldn't care if yall didn't also feel the need to insult people for wearing makeup differently and imply people are stupid because products that don't cater to YOUR preference are apparently a waste...🙃
    Honestly, it doesn't even need to be an either/or thing. We do not have to all wear the same makeup sis. You do not need everybody to wear cut creases and blue eye shadow if they don't want to. Just do you and maybe some ppl will see it and be inspired to wear it too, because THEY LIKE IT, not because you put them down for having a different preference.
    No makeup, makeup girlies who put down full beat girlies by implying that they look clownish are out of line too. I really can't stand none of y'all 😂
    I need everybody to stop acting like the world is supposed to revolve around you for a second. Like damn sis, drink some hot tea and chill.
