Sean, I own a 98 Gold Wing and on the first long trip I had control problems when passing a semi. I talked to another Winger and he asked if I had a belly pan. I did not. He told me that without the belly pan when passing semi's you can have control problems and also the side covers can blow off without a belly pan. I bought a belly pan and never again had issues when passing a semi and I have never lost a side panel. One of the guys I ride with has a 95 Wing and is missing a right side cover and he does not have a belly pan. I know this message is 3 years late but it may help you or someone else. I have had my Wing for 20 years it has 73,000 miles. Like you I also have another bike a Yamaha Road Star. ride safe
Loved your video, thanks for posting it!! Towards the end of the v-log, you said, who uses a CB anymore? I don't know if you ride with a chapter of the GWRRA but I do sometimes 10-13 guys at a time and almost everyone has a CB. We communicate with everyone in our group and I don't know what I would do without it. So just food for thought. Also, if you are ever stranded it's the only way to communicate with truckers. A lot of guys don't have them because of the cost, they are around $600. Hopefully this helped.
Thanks Sean, I enjoyed that. Oh by the way I know the Ant problem well, shut the Bike in a small area and spray that instead. Goodluck. Jim Outback of Aus ( the Ant Capital of the World, lols).

Try velcro for the side covers... or 2 magnets.. one on the cover one on the frame
Very informative Sean, thank you for sharing.

"We're pulling for you!"
Belle moto Vive la GoldWing
You know that in another 80,000 miles your bike will be broke in.
funny you should say that. I have a cousin who rides a HD and one of the people in his group rides an older 1500 Wing with over 300,000 miles on it.
You need a new FLAG!!
