My father, while i was growing up would watch the cartoons my sister and i watched when we were not there during the week. (parents were separated). Im now 30 and i have always thought that it was my dad just being a dork, but in the last year i said that to him and his response was "i didnt watch it because i liked it, i liked yu-gi-oh but i chose to watch what you guys watched so i could know what your interests were, i wanted to be able to talk and understand what you guys were talking about" it blew my mind. Most parents use tv as a baby sitter, my father is a true father in every sense of the word.

Dads looking for the full sermon, it's titled “Manuals Matter” by Reuben Ramsaran from Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, preaching on Matthew 18. I tried to paste a link here to the video but it keeps getting deleted. Just search that title in TH-cam & you'll find it. The future looks bright, fathers-we've got this!

Great episode, great message. I like to hear about your fathers and the type of fathers you guys are as well - it makes me smile! My father was never a nice person and still is not. I stopped talking to him at 38, and have seen him twice since - I am now 59. I made it a point to approach him and make my peace with him the last time I saw him in the local grocery - for me, it ended on a great note and I have a photo to prove it, his response to my brother later told me he has not changed. I could go into ALOT here but trying to make this short as possible. When I run into his old school friends, women he dated, etc., they all ask me the same question "How did you turn out so different from your father" I tell them I vowed a long time ago NOT to be like him, I would/will NEVER treat my children like he treated me, I do right by others and try to do the best I can by them and live up to my promises. Bottom line, I DESTROYED his floor and ceiling and created my own to live by and teach my kids - now 27 & 30........Gentlemen - keep up the GREAT work and I'll be watching. JEM III

There is more to the idea of growing off of your parents' ceiling than this. It is extremely important that you love your parents and honor them even if you think they made mistakes or worse, were bad parents. Bitterness, unforgiveness, holds everyone back from reaching their potential. Holding a grudge will make you sink below your parent's "ceiling" and you won't even see it coming. Forgive, love freely, accept what you have been given and recognize that you too are a sinner, and then be forgiven and filled with the Holy Spirit of God, and you will see God do great things in your life.

I was married once for 12 yrs. That was 16 yrs ago. My mom & dad worry about me being alone. I’m not, I have 3 adult children 😂. But I understand their concern, I want my own children to have partners. For a while now I’ve been telling my parents (because I mean it) that my Dad set the bar too high. I was very young when I’d gotten married. I didn’t really know him, but we were in love. Never again. I’ve dated very little, but I hold every man to the standard my dad set. I’ve yet to meet a man that is like my dad. He really did set the bar high. TBF, the reason I could stand on my own w/3 kids after my divorce was that I watched my dad work his ass off for us. I knew I could & would do the same for my children. He taught me to work hard & to believe that I could do difficult things. No matter how hard it gets, just keep going - don’t stop. It’s easier to keep going when you have momentum, when we stop is when we get stuck. I never stopped. Thank you Dad 💕

Upon his passing, i will inherit all this, as the only child of a 1-child policy family of a British grandfather, Dutch grandmother on my mom's side. My grandmother never worked a day of her life and never got a driver license.

I tell you as for me as an African child -without a father- I was raised moulded by the society before the Roman-Dutch law dicta creeped into our homes and society. When I got saved I had a problem with taking Yah as my Father because I never had a father present, it was tough for me as the transitioned from a man who was angry at Yah -because Moses did not reach the Promised Land- and turned from the Darwinian philosophy as I was engrafted by Science and His-story. It is only when I had male mentors who bridged the gap between my grandmother and me -especially my father-in-law- and started having relations with Elders as ensampled by Moses - Joshua, Elijah - Elisha, and Paul - Timothy, that there was a shift in my thinking -remember I was a proponent of Mars colonisation-. But now with the revelation of Christ from the Holy Bible and Nature and philosophical precepts such as Astronomical science and Philosophy, He the Holy Spirit has revealed that it is a grandiose idea as the only time we will leave the earth is when the Calvary of the whole host of heaven come to earth to take on Believers in Christ to the third heaven.
