*Yah, I gotta' tell you if your beads suck I don't watch the rest of the video because I don't care what you think of a machine, but therse... these welds are clean.*
Nice welder. I am an apprentice. I clicked on the video because I saw the HOBART welder. I am looking for an easy to use welder, good price and a name I can trust. Good review, thanks a bunch.👍👍
I build airframes for a living, I weld mostly 16ga/18ga mild tube. I have a 5yr old MillerMatic 140 (115V), which I use everyday. I started buying .023 solid wire early on, the low volt welder is a lot happier pushing the skinny wire. Now I never switch out the wire, even for heavier gauge jobs..I just dial up the knobs and go to work. I totally recommend .023 for low volt welders, be sure to reverse your wire drive wheel and pick up some small tips.
I know you did this 9 years ago and I hope this isn't too late to express my appreciation for the Hobart welder set up. Thanks, great welds, and this helped a lot!
After watching your excellent review, I just pushed the Amazon button and bought one of these. Your review was very well done and I must applaud you for admitting your mistake for the whole world to see (admirable indeed). Very nice looking welds. Good job my man.
Thank you for taking the time and humility to tell us what was wrong the first gime, im sure you saved a lot of us from doing the same thing. :) thanks
For those that don't know, Hobart is a sister company of Miller. For a while, many of the Hobart units were shipped out with mig guns stamped "Miller". The Hobart 140 is a very nice machine for a 110V unit.
I almost bought a Hobart. They are good welders. I eventually bought an everlast and have been happy with it. I needed something that could run dual voltage for more power.
This is a great video. Thanks for the clear and concise review. I was looking to buy one of these but am now sold on it. Nice welding by the way, from someone who does not weld of course.
Great video. I had either this model or a slight variation of it about a dozen years ago. It was my first welder I purchased, I had borrowed and learned on a buddies model that was a step down, and decided it was something I could do, sold a client that I could build the wrought iron fence she wanted and bought my own. Eventually sold off a lot of my gear years later because I wasn't using it, but I've got to build some wrought iron pieces on my own new home.....and was thinking what model to get, and your video helped make my decision. Great video and I'll be getting my own.... dang I wished I didn't make it a package deal and sold all my welding gear to one of my buddies when I moved. LOL, now I"ll have to break in a new machine and gloves and everything. Keep at it!!!!!
I just bit the bullet and purchased one from northern tool last night which came to $449 total with the $50 coupon good til July 4th 2015 and free shipping and no sales tax so i am excited to get started with this machine and your video is a big help on what this machine will do.... Rarely will i need to do 1/4" but happy it will do it in a few passes if needed
I bought this machine a few years ago to use for a metal art business. I ended up using .030 solid core wire with 90/10 Arg/CO2. Gas. Many welders use 75/25 gas. But 90/10 gas runs a little hotter. So for a smaller machine like this one. It works better for heavier uses.
I love this lil welder myself.. for a 115v machine its a beast, I have seen it weld some very heavy steel, I could not believe my eyes. For flux core a flux core tip is recommended, no build up & you can see so much more. was thinking you had your polarity wrong from the beginning when you said you had problems. Only issue I run into is wire tension settings, I find, mine feeds very well on low tension settings, higher settings result in feed issues. This is a very well made, well working welder, will serve me well for years to come.
I'm an old man welder. You have the touch 👍 True... All fluxes welding needs to be reverse polarity to put the heat into the weld and not the electrode
I'm new to this and am thinking about the 140. Like I stated, I'm new to this, but them look like some pretty good welds there. Thanks for the demo and info!
I am so glad I bothered to look for a video about this welder, my son bought this for me a couple of years ago as a fathers day present. (northern tools had it for $429 I think) Thanks for the video.
I feel like I have a sunburn and my eye's hurt..you forgot to switch the wires huh. I've owned this welder for 4 years(heavy use) and I love it. I run 030 025 and 75/25 mix .
Nice but can you show your mistake setting up the welder bc I just got one of these and want to make sure I’m not making the same mistake. Also can you show welding without gas? Bc I’m not using gas and just using flux core. Thx :) great video
I'm no expert either but was thinking the same thing, also beveling the edge to give the puddle a place to go on a multi-pass weld helps too to keep from having a tight weld
Thanks for the review. I'm looking at picking up my first welder to learn on, and the 140 is at the top of my list. It'll mainly be automotive-related hobby stuff, such as bodywork, exhaust, roll-bars, etc. Thanks again, great vid!
at canadian tire here in canada i bought a 99$ mig welder.. no gas.. flux core.. what do you think of it? welding car rust patches.. i think it will work..i know gas is better but the price is good needs a deadacated 20 amp plug from my panel.. it has a 20 amp plug
It's a great hobby welder I build derby cages and roll cages for cheap car baja racing never had a cage fail in 3 years and I use this welder exclusively to build them
I've been considering procuring the Hobart Handler 140 for some time. After watching your fine demonstration I'm going to purchase this welder. Thanks. Question though, have you tried welding stainless steel?
Newer welder here. Why is my wire just blowing off. I can get a weld started but it gets so damn bright so quick my chance to react is a little slow but by the time I do my wire just blows right off and I gotta get it fed back out. Also my wire doesn’t wanna feed everytime I hit the trigger. What’s that about? Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks!
Would this be better over the lincoln 140 welder? I like how this has 5 voltage settings and it can weld 1/4 steel pretty well even though I wont be welding that much 1/4 steel
Do you use a automatic tint mask? My father has this welder and the basic mask doesn't allow me to see anything, also the fluxcore wire with no gas never creates a good weld, it's always popped and bad. Hoping with gas and new wire will make a huge difference.
I never welded before but have read a lot on this. I got this welder and my problem is burning through metal. I tried 1/8 and it's not bad but it doesn't bond. On thinner gauge and using stock flox cored .30 i burn through most thin metals. Is it possible the flux core wire this unit comes with is of poor quality? Thanks
+BleepinJeep Thanks a million man. I have great first impressions with this unit and see people online loving this welder but I could not do much with it the first day I started to weld. Now I know why. The other problem is that I don't have access to metal, the only place I can get i is custom metal fabrication and they are pricey in my book. I will take your advise and practice on something thicker. Thanks Arek
+Arek Kosinski BleepinJeep is right. Flux core doesn't force you to get an Argon tank but it does run hotter. When I first got my everlast mig welder I practiced on thicker pieces until I got some experience.
Are you now questioning the durability of your welds on the bumper you just did ? . I would do some passes over the existing welds on that bumper with the corrected polarity just to make sure that wheel doesn't come flying off anytime soon. I my self have a hobart 125ez, but a hobart 140 is in my future. I want the ability to adjust heat and wire speed independently rather than this 125ez where you set your metal thickness and it's automatic... not good to play around with. Also would like the ability to use shielding gas rather than flux cored wire. Good videos, I do enjoy the new welding series and hope to see many more coming. Thanks Matt and Tim
This is embarrassing to admit. I've had my 140 for several years now and just realized why I was getting SOOO much spatter when I welded. Polarity was set just like said for flux core and not solid wire. I'm gonna see how much of a difference i get now.
I was going to ask u questions about 140 welder and I know that is a 115 household power, what is your amperage on that breaker for the outlet u use on 140 welder. Thanks
Any idea if the wire motor drive gears are plastic? I've had my Handler 125 break teeth on the gears twice. Replaced the drive assembly once, don't know if I want to do it again or buy a new one. Wire runs smoothly through the cable.
Awesome! Thanks for the reply! I may have to get one. I've been dreaming of the Millermatic 211... but this one would be about $400 cheaper. Not really apples to apples, but it aint easy.
Hobart is a sister company of Miller. For a while, some of the Hobart units were being shipped with mig guns that said Miller on them. IMO its a solid unit for the price point. I have had no issues with mine and it's had a lot of use.
Car Sick!! I had a 211, sold it , bought a 215 , sold it and got a hobart 140, welds just as good for less money, the reason I downgraded sort to say is because I lost interest in welding so I freed up some extra money for a new hobby..
Better beads? are you kidding, Those are some of the best beads I've seen from any experienced certified welder! Great Video.
*Yah, I gotta' tell you if your beads suck I don't watch the rest of the video because I don't care what you think of a machine, but therse... these welds are clean.*

Good job my man.
Think I might pull the trigger on one !
Just got one of these, gonna test it out today with no welding experience what so ever. Thanks for the great video
This is the best video I've seen yet. Very good job.
Thank you for taking the time and humility to tell us what was wrong the first gime, im sure you saved a lot of us from doing the same thing. :) thanks

Christopher González the mig 200e? How is it?
My Hobart came with a Miller mig gun
This video completely sold me on this Hobart.
thank you so much for this video. it’s hard to find creators who also own up to their mistakes AND explain why. keep on keeping on!
This is a great video. Thanks for the clear and concise review. I was looking to buy one of these but am now sold on it. Nice welding by the way, from someone who does not weld of course.

Dude. Great video!!! You pretty much sealed the deal for me on my first welder purchase

Thanks for the demonstration!! Beads looks very good.
Great detailed review, I just picked a handler 140 myself
Freakin awesome video! Thanks! I'm sold. Pulling the trigger on the Hobart 140 from Amazon now!
nice reveiw and mini class on welding. Got to get one. keep the projects coming
Awesome. Thanks to your review I decided on this welder. Bought it yesterday.
Same its a pretty dang good price for what it is
Just ordered one today after seeing this positive reciew as well as others. Cannot wait to make my own parts!
David Hartman good luck man!
I got one for Christmas, but have yet to find scrap metal for practice.
Oh and do you have a welding table? If not, how do you plan to weld? I dont have a welding table. When I'm able to weld I'd like to make one.
We have a table in the garage that is going to be setup for welding. Make sure we keep everything square away.
Thank you for posting. Those are some textbook quality solder joints.

I'm an old man welder. You have the touch 👍
True... All fluxes welding needs to be reverse polarity to put the heat into the weld and not the electrode
You weld REALLY nicely! Good job.
I don't know what more you want but your beads are very good don't degrade your welding skills buddy👍
bought one for Christmas. works great. well worth. it
I'm new to this and am thinking about the 140. Like I stated, I'm new to this, but them look like some pretty good welds there. Thanks for the demo and info!
I have one, great little welder.
Great Video! Just what I wanted to know - how much metal can it handle and some brief tips. Thanks for sharing.
I'm about to buy one and that's why I'm watching this video. Great job with the review and it helped me make my decision, thanks.
Saw this and I'm now going to order one. Thanks
Very nice beads..Currently a TIG welder for a commercial airline for 33 years.
I am so glad I bothered to look for a video about this welder, my son bought this for me a couple of years ago as a fathers day present. (northern tools had it for $429 I think) Thanks for the video.
I just got this welder the other day, still need to hook up the gas to it, doing that today :)
I'll be getting this welder after this review and many others. Thanks for posting. Bookmarking your video and subscribing as well.
Thanks for Subscribing!
Young man those are beautiful beads !
Thank you for your video, I found it informative! Do you have other welding videos?
Nice video. Thanks for your in depth info. Have a great day
Nice! That’s a brand name machine.
Thanks for the detailed information and review. I just ordered mine on Amazon. Can't wait!
That was a great video my friend! Keep up the great work.
not trying to be a know it all but maybe try slow down wire speed or speeding up just a little. your very consistent
I'm no expert either but was thinking the same thing, also beveling the edge to give the puddle a place to go on a multi-pass weld helps too to keep from having a tight weld
Great welder, I have the MVP 210, same basic welder but gives you the option to work with 220v.
To maximize penetration, clean off the mill scale, bevel the edges if possible, and weld vertical-up if possible.
These are the welders that my high school uses
Thanks for the review. I'm looking at picking up my first welder to learn on, and the 140 is at the top of my list. It'll mainly be automotive-related hobby stuff, such as bodywork, exhaust, roll-bars, etc. Thanks again, great vid!

Grounding your work will also help instead of grounding the table. that welder and you turn out some nice looking welds.
Awesome demo!
It's a great hobby welder I build derby cages and roll cages for cheap car baja racing never had a cage fail in 3 years and I use this welder exclusively to build them
Awesome! have you done these welding tests with a 15 or 20 AMP breaker?
Just bought one, thanks for the video! 🤙🏽🤙🏽👊🏽👊🏽
I'm just over here from watching Brian'smobile1 and Eric the car guy. I like your shirt.
jakob simmons Thanks! we sell them on the website: www.bleepinjeep.com/store/
Sweet.. I will go pick one up!!! I got a compact class derby car to work on. This will be so much easier then driving 20 miles to use someone else's.
Great welds bro
You sold me on one, thank you
Love seeing a plan come together :)
Quote from the A Team
Great video! Very nice review.
LWELDS.com i
Thank you; really nicely done
YUP.. I have put the 135 I have through the tests and 1/4 is dinner for it if you take it slow and easy !!
What was the “mistake “ that you was doing?
I've been considering procuring the Hobart Handler 140 for some time. After watching your fine demonstration I'm going to purchase this welder. Thanks. Question though, have you tried welding stainless steel?
Thomas Daley hi there did you get the welder?? If so how is working ?? Iam going to get one also
Good video man. Great little welder. Cheers from texas.
Nice show brother, you born to weld
looks pretty good, is there no post flow?
Great video and super nice welds!
nice welds! my welds suck lol! but my machine can only do flux core.
Newer welder here. Why is my wire just blowing off. Will you use it to weld coil overs bracket , control arms etc..?
Is this machine powerful enough to weld a crack in a support bar under a truck bed?
thank you for the honest review.
Hi , i am new to MIG welding , i bought the Hobart Handler 140 , what Gas are you using please
Do you use a automatic tint mask? My father has this welder and the basic mask doesn't allow me to see anything, also the fluxcore wire with no gas never creates a good weld, it's always popped and bad. Hoping with gas and new wire will make a huge difference.
Great video! Very informative thanks
Another great video. Keep up the good work. Informative review, just wish I could weld!
GREAT JOB . . . VERY MODEST; BUT YOUR BEADING LOOKS UBER PROFESSIONAL! I BET YOU ARE A PERFECTIONIST!

You need to practice on 1/4". Anything thinner than 1/8" is very difficult even for moderately experienced welders.
+BleepinJeep Thanks a million man. I have great first impressions with this unit and see people online loving this welder but I could not do much with it the first day I started to weld. Yeah but if he breaks the bumber than he gets to fix something. We all love fixing stuff. Good old quality time in the shop.
Oh yeah but true, don't wanna lose that wheel and tire on the freeway haha.
Im gonna try using a plumber's torch to heat up the thicker metal then hit it with the weld with about 2 passes.
Great video thanks for sharing it.
What kind of wire do you use for doing stuff like this?
Super review !
Just got one for exhaust work.
not knocking ya bro good review , but chill on the wire speed a bit that ain't no bacon cooking
Nice welds dude…
I can not get mine to penetrate, what was your fix on your set up?
Great Video!
This is embarrassing to admit. I've had my 140 for several years now and just realized why I was getting SOOO much spatter when I welded. Polarity was set just like said for flux core and not solid wire. I'm gonna see how much of a difference i get now.
How about preheating it? 7:32 Those are nice beads.
I was going to ask u questions about 140 welder and I know that is a 115 household power, what is your amperage on that breaker for the outlet u use on 140 welder. Thanks
Great review and demo!
Would it be good for welding swap kits like an 8.8 swap kit for an Xj and welding trusses on axkes?
What kind of gas are you using ? What’s the mix %
Any idea if the wire motor drive gears are plastic? I've had my Handler 125 break teeth on the gears twice. Replaced the drive assembly once, don't know if I want to do it again or buy a new one. Wire runs smoothly through the cable.
Car Sick!! I have this exact welder and I love it. To answer your question, the drive gears are all metal.

Is that a 22RE head gasket hanging on the water heater?
great review! thanks!
