I am an elderly befriender and one of my clients wanted to play this with me. I had never played this game in my life, but this video helped me so much - thank you. I am about to visit the lady in question now and hopefully we'll have our first game together 😁
This video is explained perfectly. I watched it three years ago when I bought a Rummikub card version to understand it. Today at lunch I played a round with some colleagues; I lost yet I managed to practice for future rounds and focus on strategies. Also, I see that you didn't mention the penalties for illegal plays, two minute limit and the points when winning/losing; yet, it doesn't lose the essence for beginners, medium or advance players.
I have family members at my house for a birthday party..bought this game and sadly never got to play it. Now I will introduce this cool game to them all and make it a favorite! This demonstration made it much easier for me to understand..Thank you !
We developed a few house rules which make the game more enjoyable and speeds it up a bit. Rule1, When drawing tiles at the start of a game, any double is returned to the pile, and a different tile is taken. This keeps you from getting bogged down with doubles. Rule 2, The game starts with 20 points, instead of 30. This gets everyone playing right away. Rule 3, The loser is given a joker, and must use it on their initial play. This gets jokers on the table, so anyone can use them later. Enjoy!
Our version of the starting 30 is you can play less then 30, but you cant start adding to otger ppls groups until youve put your own 30 down lol. So if you do 21 next turn you need 9. This way prevents ppl from having to take cards, if they at least put 3 down.
I know this game was played to illustrate the rules and it does that well, but I need to get this off my chest anyway. The player on the right in his last turn was actually able to win. He should have added his red 1 to the set of three different coloured 1s in the bottom left. Then he should have taken his blue 3 and added it to the set of 3s with the joker in it and thereby dislodge the joker. Then he should have taken the orange 7 from the set of four 7s and placed it next to the orange 4 5 and 6 row. After that he he would have needed to place the joker next to that 7 so that he could then add his orange 9. Having done that he then could have dislodged the orange 4 from that set and taken the black 4 from the black row on the left of the table and added his own blue 4 to form a set of three 4s.Then all he would have needed to do was take one of the red 5s and take the orange 5 and add his own black 5 to form a set of 5s and he would have won.
Our family plays Rummikub either daily or every other day and make moves like this or more complicated all the time. Remember though, you have to finish all your moves in 60 seconds or else face the 3 tile penalty!
Thank you. I remembered that my family used to own one of these sets, but I never got to actually play the game. I thought it would be a good idea to learn how to play it and maybe I'll find some people to play it with in the future.
Assume that there is black run from 6-12 on the table. I have two 9 ( blue and red) in my hand, question: May I take the black 9 what divides the run into two 3 tile runs 6,7,8 and 10,11,12 in order to use black 9 for my set of nines ?
Yo, i was teaching my kids this game and i showed them this video my kids’ reaction= :O. i was so astonished at the quality of this video. Thnx so much!
That is really nice but for some, consider the same layout but use natural speed explaining each move one or the other makes. It would help a bunch of people enjoy the game~
Wow! Great video! We've had this game sitting in the cupboard for years. Decided to take it camping with is not having any clue as to how to play it. Now the competition is hectic downunder! Thanks for the video! ⛺♟🎲
Great video, thanks! One question I had is whether the final move in this game should have been allowed... the joker is representing a 5 and hence should it not require a yellow or blue 5 to clear it (since it is part of a group and not a run) before it could then be re-used as a 3 in the new run?
Or I guess that the set of 5s is split by adding the red five to the 234 set and the black five is now part of a new set (456), and the joker is now clear...?
Atlas Cedar this is my question!!!! I don’t think (according to the Rummikub rules) that play would be allowed. But I guess it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re consistent about it? Bc even with splitting the group of 5, you’re only supposed to get the joker if you put down exactly what the joke represents. Or so the rules say
Hiya, can you rearrange tiles already on the board to help you make a set? For example if there was 555 and 2345 on the table, and you needed one of the 5's in the first set could you move the 5 in the second set and add it to the first set so that you could take the relevant coloured 5 to make a brand new set
2020 this helped a lot, my grandma forgot how to play so played off of the directions (they did not help at all) and when we were playing she was thinking that we were ending to fast so I looked up vids and this helped the most, thank you. now we know how to play.
Excellent video, but I still have a question: what if there are no more tiles in the bunch? We should decide with points remaining from each player? thank you
When you take a tile from a run to create another set or run, are you only allowed to take an end tile? Let’s say there’s 3,4,5, and 6. Are you only allowed to take either 3 or 6? Or can I take any tile?
I just bought this game today and was so confused reading the instructions. Now I get it and this looks SO fun!! I'm glad I got it and can't wait to play it! Thank you! (I may haha questions. 😉)
When the joker is used in a sequence (i.e., 1-12) and represents red 8, for example, if a player splits the sequence to create another one and takes the joker off the end of the split to use in another group or sequence, do they still have to replace the joker with a red 8 tile? In other words, if there was a sequence of 1-12 where the joker represented red 8, a player splits that sequence by taking the 9-12 to get to that joker, can they take the joker off the end, leaving 1-7, and making the joker equal another color tile and number, like blue 12? They would have red 1-7, red 9-12, and the red 8 now becomes blue 12 (e.g., blue 10,11,12)? I think they have to replace the joker with red 8 no matter what. There was a question when we played for the first time. Sorry if my question is confusing. Thanks for reading.
1. Do you play with a 2 minute time for each player. 2. Does the 1 who puts the joker down decide on what color it should be (in a meld that has 2 different colors and a joker- can the player decide what color the 4th one can be? Like if it's orange, black and joker - does the player decide the 4th one is either green or red or can the next player change the joker into any color in the sequence?
at 5:12 the left player could win, split the red 2345 run to 23 and 45, put the red 3 in front of it from the group of 3s with the joker, then take the red 1 from a group of 1s to make the red 123, the orange 3 from the first group goes to the orange 456 run to make it 3456, that way the joker is free so it goes up to the black 45678 run in front of it as a black 3 and he can add black 2 in front of it, done
I have a question regarding the game example. At 4:28 there is a black run 1, 2, Joker, 4, 5. The player on the right splits the black run and creates (1, 1, 1 Black, Red, Orange); (2, 2, 2, Black, Red, Orange); and (Joker, 3 Orange, 3 Red). My Rummikub instructions state: " A joker can be retrieved from a set on the table by a player who can replace it during his turn with a tile of the same numerical value and color it represents. The tile used to replace the Joker must come from the player's rack and not from the table. A joker that has been replaced must be used in the player's same turn with 2 or more tiles from his rack to make a new set." The player on the right did not replace the Joker with a Black 3 from his rack. Please advise.
I might have missed something but I have a scoring question. When you add to another players line do you only count the points that you laid down or do you count the whole line?
I keep getting argued against this, but I thought this was the rule, can anyone correct or thumbs up?: Your initial meld is ONLY your own tiles and has to be at least 30. And then on your subsequent turn, you can then add/manipulate whatever how you please. Everyone says no, on your SAME INITIAL MELD TURN, after you have played the initial 30 point meld, you can also add/manipulate, etc. which I think is INCORRECT.
This question continues to be unresolved when my friends and I play. If you're left with only one tile, can you add that tile to a run on the board and go out OR must you always have at least the three tiles to go out, therefore making it necessary for you to continue to draw tiles? We decided that you must have three tiles but still up for discussion.
The rules we play by is that only your initial set or run (the first one you play on the table) must be 3 tiles or more. After that players can place one tile at a time and add to other players' sets and runs
the idea of the game is to get rid of your tiles . if you are playing with more than 2 people you if they have tiles left they count up there tiles worth 30 points s joker is if you still have that and that way you know who comes in with the lowest amount is than 2 and than 3 or forth if 4 are playing
Hi.... I have a doubt.... Is it compulsory for a player to put tiles from his/her rack instead of just rearranging the previous tiles put down on the surface?
I know you stated that it's a modified rule you play, but I believe the last move played used the joker incorrectly from the game rules as it didn't replaced the tile it represented which was a blue or yellow 5 it only rearranged the value to turn a group into a run, but aside from that do you play the game using the penalties?
Alright, thank you for explaining! To be honest, I think it's a bit like UNO. The rules are not specific enough so different variations of game-play surface. I guess it would be safer to say that this is just the way that WE play the game :) And to answer your question, no we don't use penalties
I just bought this game at a thrift store and look forward to playing, love your video so thank you. I do have a couple questions 1) do you keep score throughout and if so that can get real confusing but the directions state that if the game is over and you still have the joker you lose 30 points. and 2) is it possible that the game may not end in both players using all the tiles so maybe this is where a point system might be needed?
Well actually, there are a few different ways you can play this game. Just like there is more then one set of rules for the game UNO. The version you see in this video is single game gameplay. You can also play it using points. For example, you would play three games in a row and whoever has the least amount of points would win. Hope that helps! It's a fun game, enjoy!
When you do the splits to create more groups or runs, do you get all the points? If you add a 12 to a run, for example, do you add up all the points of the numbers on the table?
Once you start a run of one color let’s say you had a run of red and play it and the other person has a run of red does it have to add to the run of red so in other words if someone puts 1234 and the other person has 1234 in the same color they can’t play it right? I’m sorry if this doesn’t make sense
Hello, if I have a 4-chip ladder with a joker, for example (4 5 6 7 C) it is understood that the joker can be replaced by an 8, my question is, Can I move the joker to the other end and replace it with a 3? and use the joker to put together another game? Greetings, good explanation of the Game.
Watching to learn. Played once with friends. At the end of the hand the tiles down were red 5 black 5 and wild tile. When the player made her play she did not replace the wild tile with a 5. Friends told me wild tile has to be replaced with a tile it is representing. Is that wrong?
This particular rule is not clearly spelled out in the game instructions so people tend to play using their own rules. That's why it's usually a good idea to make sure everyone is on the same page before starting. 😄 (kind of like UNO, where you can play it in many different ways) The way we play it in my family is that the wild does not need to be replaced with a tile it is representing. It can simply be "liberated" from the run or set it is in. Set example: Red 5 - Black 5 - Wild
First of all, thank you for this! Second, If the joker is placed as 13 red for example 11 12 13 all in red (13 = joker) if the other player added 9 and 10 to this run. Can they use the joker as some other number? Or should it be a 13 red in order to take the joker? 🙂 Thanks in advance 🌸
Good question! There is debate about that. The official game rules are not entirely clear on that part so it is really up to you how you want to play it. We play "any manipulations are fair play" :) So if there is a red 11,12,Joker and you add a red 10, you can freely take that Joker but you have to use it on the same turn you took it. But there are people who are adamant about the idea that the Joker can only be replaced by the number and color it represents. So long story short... It's your choice! Choose which way you like to play it more and enjoy the game ;)
@@dwcoyote Yeah I have read the instructions that came with my game a few times and it clearly states you need to replace the Joker with the same tile it represents. IMO, that last move was an illegal move. Very good video though. I need some clarification on how to count the Joker that has been used already as far as points go.
Does the 1 who puts the joker down decide on what color it should be (in a meld that has 2 different colors and a joker- can the player decide what color the 3rd one can be? Like if it's orange, black and joker - does the player decide the 3rd one is either green or red or can the next player change the joker into any color in the sequence? And if someone exchanges a joker with the same color that the person "named" the joker, can they use the joker for anything - or does it have to be the same color?
So if I have a joker in my rack I can make a set purely from that and other things in my rack? I don’t have to use something that’s already on the table
Never seen this game before, but love the look of it. The video says (I think!) the person with no tiles left first is the winner. Does the actual score you amass count for anything?Do you actually keep count of the score?
Heheh well we usually don't have the patience to play the game multiple times so whoever wins the first game is the winner. But you are right, if you play a few sets, then the scores you amass do matter. Here are the scoring rules I didn't mention in the video: The first player who manages to play all their tiles wins. The other players add up the numbers on the tiles remaining in their racks, counting jokers as 30. They each score minus the total of their remaining tiles, and the winner scores plus the total of all the losers' tiles. Rarely, a situation may be reached in which the pool of tiles is empty, no one has gone out, and the next player in turn cannot or does not wish to lay down any tiles. Since this player cannot draw from the pool, the play ends and players count the total value of tiles in their racks. The player with the lowest tile count wins. Each of the other players calculates the difference between their tile count and that of the winner, and loses that amount. The winner wins the sum of these differences, so that the players' scores for the deal add up to zero as usual.
Thanks for that. The video explains the game very well. I've just ordered a copy of the game. It will be ideal when we get our motorhome and the weather's not good for anything but staying in!!!
Great! Glad you found the video helpful :) I am sure you will love the game! It's one of our favorites. Currently Splendor is our top favorite (but that changes every year or so). We made a tutorial on that one too. The only downside is that it's around $40..
I thought this wasn’t allowed? I understood the rules to state that you had to be able to reuse all of the tiles you rearranged. You cannot put any back onto your rack.
That's how we play it. (there are many variations of gameplay) if you were to play by the newest game rules, every player gets 2 minutes per turn and "a player who unsuccessfully builds on or manipulates other sets on the table must replace the tiles in their original positions, take back the tiles he played and draw three tiles from the pouch." tesera.ru/images/items/784463/Rummikub_Rules.pdf
at 2.51 seconds when you added all of player 2's red numbers you wrote 21 but it's supposed to be 26. Was the math here just incorrect or am I missing something from the rules of the game? Genuinely trying to get clarifications :)
At 3:50 you added a 9 and 10 to the 11 12 and wild card, (representing an orange 13) and then made the wild card a red 4. Don’t you have to replace the wild card with an orange 13 before you can use it for something else? Also it was done again at the end of the game she didn’t replace the wild card with a 5 she just took it and used it as black 3.
The official rules are unclear about that particular aspect of the game. In the written rules it sounds like you cannot do that but in the official video tutorial that the company made, it is a valid move. So really I guess it is just up to you to decide which way you will play. I already had this debate a couple of times and one person actually tried contacting the company to get clarification. I don't think they ever answered.
That is weird. Personally I’ll continue to replace the wild card with what it’s representing at the moment just because I feel like it’s a little more challenging and fun that way otherwise it makes the game a little easier. They do need to be more clear on that rule though! Lol
“The two joker tiles are used in Rummikub much like they are in any card game; play them as any tile. But beware: Another player can pick up the joker if he or she has the specific tile it's replacing. And -- even worse -- you'll have to add a penalty of 30 points to your score if it's left on your rack at the end of the game.”
How to get point of the game that after all parts done? and how about to make doubling the tiles that collect same tile as two, is it exist in Rummikub?
I am an elderly befriender and one of my clients wanted to play this with me. I had never played this game in my life, but this video helped me so much - thank you. I am about to visit the lady in question now and hopefully we'll have our first game together 😁
Thank you! Finally someone who can explain a game clearly.
There are so many that don’t make any sense.
Thank you! This was much easier than reading the directions. My kid was like, oh, okay, I get it now! 👍🏼
Glad it helped! Thanks for leaving a comment, enjoy the game!
fantastic tutorial. I read the instructions and watched the official instructions video and was still confused. Seeing someone play helps sooo much

the instructions made no sense at all, but this did
Happy to hear it :)
2020 corona virus quarantine!!!! Here in Los Angeles ! Hopefully in the future someone sees this and we are waaaay past this!!!!!
Two months later!!
City’s are burning down..🤬
Still here and still in quarantine
Not yet 😣
well it's been a year......still in quarentine!
Congratulations!
Thank you! This video was very helpful. We haven't played this game in many years and this was exactly what we needed! Well done!
I love this game! My family plays this game every time we’re together, Every holiday and any other events!!
Thanks we used to play this a long time ago. Your video was clear and covered anything in a concise fashion. We’re ready to go!
Glad it was helpful! Have a Happy New Year and enjoy the game!! 👍👍👍
We developed a few house rules which make the game more enjoyable and speeds it up a bit. Holy crap!! If I have to figure all that out in order to play this game I might as well go back to Uno!
Intuitively obvious!
Our family plays Rummikub either daily or every other day and make moves like this or more complicated all the time. Remember though, you have to finish all your moves in 60 seconds or else face the 3 tile penalty!
That 60 second rule mentioned below just burst my bubble...🤷♀️🤣.
This game was sitting at the back of my closet, and I had no idea what it was, but now I do! Thank you!
Enjoy the game! :)
this is my favorite game, its so fun and i never get tired of it
Very helpful, I'd rather have games explained than read instructions! :-)
Amen, I don’t trust anyone who feels otherwise in this modern world.
Exactly.
Me too!!
Same

Thank you! Now I can play the new rummikub game I got for Christmas🙂
Thank you. I remembered that my family used to own one of these sets, but I never got to actually play the game. I thought it would be a good idea to learn how to play it and maybe I'll find some people to play it with in the future.
I didn’t know how to play but now I know how to play and I appreciate y’all because y’all help me learn how to play

Best video on the subject of Rummikub. Well done!
Thank you. Brought this for lock down round 2 but couldn't understand the rules. Now we can play
Best Tutorial Ever!
AWESOME tutorial i have been looking at so many tutorials and didn't understand them until I found this one THANKS
I just bought the same one! Reminds me of Gucci colors and the metal legs for the tile racks. Had to have it!
Thanks so much for explaining. Made it so easier than reading the instructions. Love this game.
Yo, i was teaching my kids this game and i showed them this video my kids’ reaction= :O. i was so astonished at the quality of this video. Thnx so much!

Rachel Gregoire Yes, as long as there are no duplicate colors in the group of 5’s.
I rarely play this game, but when I do, I need to relearn this game every time, so fun!
Well done! I’m completely new to the game and now I can play and teach my family. Thank you!😀 Actually, I’ll just show them your video.😁
It's actually more fun with 4 or 5 players
Thank you so much rummikub has been at the back of my cupboard for years and we finally no how to play it

Excellent video, but I still have a question: what if there are no more tiles in the bunch? We should decide with points remaining from each player? thank you
Yep, you would just tally up the remaining tiles in each player's hand
So helpful! Way better than instructions. Thanks!
Finally we could start the game with our kids)))
i just learned this last week by one of the residents at my work place, sm fun too play!
When you take a tile from a run to create another set or run, are you only allowed to take an end tile? Let’s say there’s 3,4,5, and 6. Are you only allowed to take either 3 or 6? Or can I take any tile?
Any tile as long as whatever you finish up with still is a set or run
I just bought this game today and was so confused reading the instructions. Now I get it and this looks SO fun!! I'm glad I got it and can't wait to play it! Thank you! (I may haha questions. 😉)

I think they have to replace the joker with red 8 no matter what. There was a question when we played for the first time.
Sorry if my question is confusing. Thanks for reading.
Thank you! This was exactly what I needed to know to play with my grandkids!!
Awesome! Have fun! :)

The player on the right did not replace the Joker with a Black 3 from his rack. Please advise.
A joker that was used as 13 was not replaced either. I was taught that the joker has to be replaced with the same number it represents
I might have missed something but I have a scoring question. When you add to another players line do you only count the points that you laid down or do you count the whole line?
Do you have to time each player for a minute for each turn?
Thanks so much the instructions here are super clear! Anybody can understand them.
Nope me and my mom are tryna play but I barely understand it!
do you add the tiles left in your hand when the other player wins? Do you play to a certain number of points to finish the game
I keep getting argued against this, but I thought this was the rule, can anyone correct or thumbs up?:
Your initial meld is ONLY your own tiles and has to be at least 30. And then on your subsequent turn, you can then add/manipulate whatever how you please. Everyone says no, on your SAME INITIAL MELD TURN, after you have played the initial 30 point meld, you can also add/manipulate, etc. which I think is INCORRECT.
The rule on the initial meld of what you think is also correct. But in the actual gameplay I only draw one then pass because its a strategy
Very well explained. Thank you!
Nope, just one
Thank you! This was really helpful
How do you pick tiles when you draw a double
Thanks for this detailed explanation!
I bought a Rummy-O set at a yardsale and never played it because we didnt know the rules. Thank you for your help 🎉 the wife and I now love this game.
Very well explained thank you so much
If you can only make one move, do you draw another tile?
Yeah but you do you count points if you add to a set?
Do you recommend any app that I can use to practice?
Hello, if I have a 4-chip ladder with a joker, for example (4 5 6 7 C) it is understood that the joker can be replaced by an 8, my question is, Can I move the joker to the other end and replace it with a 3? and use the joker to put together another game? Greetings, good explanation of the Game.
How do u calculate the points of who is winning and who is losing?
So easily explained, thank you 👍
When you retrieve a joker can you rearrange tiles on the board with one tile from your set to make a run?
Yes. At least that's the way we play it. 👍
Do players have to play every time a set of 3 or more or they can add 1 pile to any of the sets?
They only need to play a full set or run on their first turn. After that, adding just one tile to any set or run is enough.
Very very good! We now understand this game and are playing it. Thanks
Very clear video. Thx!
First of all, thank you for this! Second, If the joker is placed as 13 red for example 11 12 13 all in red (13 = joker) if the other player added 9 and 10 to this run. Can they use the joker as some other number? Or should it be a 13 red in order to take the joker? 🙂
Thanks in advance 🌸
Good question! There is debate about that. The official game rules are not entirely clear on that part so it is really up to you how you want to play it. We play "any manipulations are fair play" :) So if there is a red 11,12,Joker and you add a red 10, you can freely take that Joker but you have to use it on the same turn you took it. But there are people who are adamant about the idea that the Joker can only be replaced by the number and color it represents. So long story short... It's your choice! Choose which way you like to play it more and enjoy the game ;)
Rules are clear that it has to be the same tile that the wild represents in a run
Very good explaining
Best strategy game!! Great video btw
I have running and I'm good
So if I have a joker in my rack I can make a set purely from that and other things in my rack? I don’t have to use something that’s already on the table
Good job explaining
Never seen this game before, but love the look of it. The video says (I think!) the person with no tiles left first is the winner. Does the actual score you amass count for anything?Do you actually keep count of the score?
Heheh well we usually don't have the patience to play the game multiple times so whoever wins the first game is the winner. But you are right, if you play a few sets, then the scores you amass do matter. Here are the scoring rules I didn't mention in the video:
The first player who manages to play all their tiles wins.
Do you play to a certain score or a set number of games e.g 1st to 100 or most total points after 5 games?
Usually people don't have enough patience to sit through 3-5 rounds so we typically play a single game. Winner takes all if you will :)
Can number 1 be added after the number 13 in a run? IF so the number 2 cannot be added. Please confirm.
Number 1 cannot be added after 13. Thirteen is as far as it goes.
Is it possible to re-arrange the tiles on the table and eventually keep some tiles on your set in case there no other option?
Yes, if there are tiles that don't fit into any set or run at the end of a players turn, he would put those left over tiles into hand/rack.
I thought this wasn’t allowed? I understood the rules to state that you had to be able to reuse all of the tiles you rearranged. You cannot put any back onto your rack.
That's how we play it. (there are many variations of gameplay) if you were to play by the newest game rules, every player gets 2 minutes per turn and "a player who unsuccessfully builds on or manipulates other sets on the table must replace the
tiles in their original positions, take back the tiles he played and draw three tiles from the pouch." tesera.ru/images/items/784463/Rummikub_Rules.pdf
If you take a tile from a set like 4 of the 12 must you replace it with a other 12
Nope. As long as 3 tiles remain in that set, you do not need to replace it with anything. You can take it freely. Enjoy the game! :)
Amazing 👌 bro
You are one 😍 who explained the best 👍
Can I use the Wild card to complete 30 the first time?
I thought you could only group 3 or 4 tiles but they've got up to a group of 8 (Red tiles 5 through to 12) around 3-4 minutes mark?
Отличное видео. Наконец-то поняла смысл игры !
at 2.51 seconds when you added all of player 2's red numbers you wrote 21 but it's supposed to be 26.
Lol
Angel Crawford you don’t have to replace the wild card if there are three or more left in the pile at the end
Asuming there were 11-JOKER-13, then put on the 9 & 10 and take the Joker ? Hmm doens't looks legit.
Thanks for the video, the instructions had me lost!
Glad it helped! Enjoy the game :)
How to get point of the game that after all parts done? and how about to make doubling the tiles that collect same tile as two, is it exist in Rummikub?
Can a wild be moved from a group to a run. Same color and same number???
Yes, as long as there are at least 3 tiles remaining in the group you took it out from.
Do you use any strategy to win? If so, teach us pls :)
