TOYOTA OVERLAND WALK THROUGH - 5 Years Around the World living and driving in a Prado - Van Life 4x4

- This is how our little Home on 4-wheel drive is made, which we self converted into a Mini Camper by our own in 2016 before leaving for a Round-the-World Overland Expedition. Our vehicle is a 2005 Toyota Landcruiser Prado KDJ120 which we nicknamed Toto'. It may seem small compared to classic vans and campers but it offers everything that we need. Our faithful companion has already taken us across 5 Continents and 52 Countries and our adventure continues to Africa. We try to live a life as much sustainable as possible and we also talk a little bit about sustainability and conservation in our video. We describe the solutions we have adopted and the choices we have made according to our type of overland travel. This is how we have been living in our car for the past 5 years.

We will show you how our tiny home on wheels is made, what type of transformation and self build we did, all our camping gear and how we use it, how we sleep, how we cook and how we eat, we will talk about our Coleman camp stove and mini camp oven, our Jetboil and what type of other cooking gear we have and how to use it. How we take a shower while camping, our portable shower tent that can also be used as pop up tent, what we use as portable camp toilet. We will explain how we make videos/photos and what type of electronics we use. We will show you how our bed frame looks like and the layout of our self conversion and how we created our very unique mini camper van out of a Toyota 4x4.

Thank you Janette! Yes the Lexus GX is a cousin of the Prado, it is a very reliable vehicle...5 years on the road and it is still in great condition despite being 17 years old...😉👍good choice!

Thanks for the video! Did you guys had any issues in South and Central America with right hand drive? I heard you just can't pass a few counties like Bolivia, Peru, etc. Have you passed those countries too?
Nice guys! Love to Overland. We will be doing some this Summer in North and South Dakota. Then, we will be driving around the World starting in 2025. We just got started building our channel before hitting the road full-time in a couple years. Hello, I’m interested in knowing what the mileage is now two years later . I saw that Toto needed some welding work in Africa. Is there much life left in the bodywork and chassis or has the dreaded rust taken over?

I'm contemplating a long road trip myself through tropical countries. So I'm curious how you cope with heat in the car in the evening/night, especially when it's also raining so you can't keep your windows open more than a few centimeters?
Hi Lars ! Well, first we don't use the air conditioning so our bodies cope better with the heat. We do have a couple of fans that help us with the air circulation and we can open the windows down to 10 cm. ( we have wind/rain covers on the upper sides of our doors if you look closely at our Toto') We tend to avoid the wrong seasons, we try to plan our route and time of the year in a certain country accordingly. We had of course some bad nights over the years, heat, mosquitoes, noises and much more, but luckily we have now enough experience to chose wisely our camp spots... and if we really cannot cope with the weather... there is always the option to check in at the nearest hostel. Hi Robert, we loved Laos, and we remember how good was your Beerlao, for us the best beer of all South East Asia. The bed inside our prado is 180cm x 120cm probably in the 105 you may get an extra 15/20 cm in width. Saying "to sleep comfortably" it wouldn't be appropriate, maybe 2 adults and a small child can be possible but for 3 adults i don't think so.For 1 or 2 nights can be ok, but not for example if at night is 35C temperature and humidity like is in Laos. Maybe consider an extra camp tent to place on the ground or maybe a rooftent for 3 people. All the best and good luck with the build!! Safe Travels 😊

Hi Damian, you need Mot if you drive in Uk, outside Europe is not necessarily needed, you just comply to the local laws. Upon our return to UK, we will do the MOT as soon as we disembark. Cheers
