WOW ! solid, simple, beautiful, thank you !!! I was leaning into something more crude for my first attempt. this is super informative, without any BS. Thank you so much for sharing.
Just getting back into leather work and gathering tools as I'm making most and as a BlackSmith Hobbyist they're built by myself and better than most on the market. Thanks for helping
....without a doubt....brother...that is the best sheath making tutorial hands down!!!!!....Great job on the video, and for sure.....a beautiful sheath! THANKYOU!!!!!!!!! Gunny, USMC 2nd Force Recon MEU. Ret.
I am in the processn of making a sheath right now. I said.... hmmm.... what would HABU do.... so... now I am doing as you do. Thanks for the instructive video. Beautiful work!
When I don't put a welt on my sheaths, like for filet knives because fishermen tend to prefer their sheaths to be slim. I put five solid brass rivets along the side and a matching solid brass snap fastener. But I never send a knife with a sheath and no protection for my threads as that is a failure waiting to happen if the knife gets used much.
That is sweet. For a knife project, do you think you could make the blade from a file, the handle from pallet wood, the pins from bolts, and the sheath from a used handbag, utilising some of the clasps from the bag? That would be cool to see.
Why no welt?. I was always told that a welt is necessary to avoid cutting the stitching... I mean your sheath looks great but I don't think it's going to hold up.
Do you do commission work? I have a custom bird/fish knife that had a leather sheath, that my dogs thought was a rawhide. I'd really like another sheath for it.
nice job u make it look so easy , me i ask u the leather after put it in water and take shape for knife it wont back to the old shap after while? and thx for the video
Hi Hassan, great work like always. Please give me a tip, I am interested for cutting board (green one) where to buy and what is mid price. All I watch is too expensive. For your information I am from Croatia, so I am force to bay on the net. One thing more, please let me know which brand You use for coloring leather and do You use same purpose color for edge coloring. Thanks a lot
For the finish and greyish color inside the fibers (hard to tell in the video), it should be chrome tan leather, it is not the best option if you want to wet shape, apply colors, or hand stamp. It is better to use vegetable tan leather, i assume Habu doesn't knows the difference or he is working on a tight budget and works with what he can find. I dont want to discredit what for sure its a hard and good work, but the leatherwork has room for improvements, there is no welt, the sewing technique, the chosen leather, anyway, he is for sure multi talented and not afraid of experimenting, thats is a big advantage in the learning process. The end result looks very good.
Hassan Abu-Izmero you know i have access to the best italian leather, all kinds of fancy tools, but i still have to make something beatiful like you have done, i keep traveling, but send a messsge if you plan to go to Vietnam, here i deal with many different factories, some of them generate many kilos of short pieces of leather, after making products for several brands i cannot mention. Maybe an oportunity to get material.
+Hassan Abu-Izmero (HABU) , super :) Just made my first knife of a vile (damn hard material, but the finish is not perfect yet haha) and it will need a holder, so your video helps a lot!
Hassan Abu-Izmero so it is just hobby!? Wow! I do think that your things will be a good sellers, some guys like myself for example;) will might buy someof that cool stuff made by you.
It's an extra piece of leather between the front and back, along the stitch line. It helps to protect the stitching from the blade edge while putting it into and removing it from the sheath.
@@joesanders6898 I know right? I use rivets if I'm not using a welt, but I still sew it. See my other comment as I explain that I only do that with the filet knives I make.
Eddings brand , but i guess this video is from what once was known as Europe. in the US there are long nosed mechanical pencils sold by woodcraft and made in germany for about 12 or 15 bucks, and home despot also sell a knock off for about 5 pesos , i dont remember the brand but they are of brigth green color, look for them in the section where they keep the lumber crayons.

Habu you did a great job on the sheath it came out really really nice thanks for sharing all the best

Thank you

That's some nice leather, real tight grain. What weight was it, and what tannery process did it go through, like what kind of leather is it? Thanks!
+Bushcraft Beats Thanks man! I just can tell you that's saddle leather from a cow...

Hassan, do you sale some of your stuff anywhere?
+Sumkindamon ZVA No, not yet...
Hassan Abu-Izmero so it is just hobby!? Wow! I do think that your things will be a good sellers, some guys like myself for example;) will might buy someof that cool stuff made by you.

Ich muss jetzt eine Pause machen! Essen.
Dann mal guten Appo!
I noticed you didn't put a welt in the sheath. Did you men to skip that part?

Dankeschön!
Nein, der war nicht für mich... ;)
perfect
Thank you!
I didn’t see a welt in the sheath.
Why do you want a sheath that covers so much of the handle doesn’t that make it difficult to pull the knife out.
